Instructions

Usage Instructions:

  1. Place the Extreme Weather Kitty Pad™ directly on a hard, flat surface in your home or inside a cat house. The area chosen should be sheltered from direct rain or snow.
  2. Plug into 110 - 120 volt AC outlet. Allow 1 - 2 hours for the Extreme Weather Kitty Pad™ to warm. The unit will feel slightly warm to the touch. When an animal lies on the pad, it will reach a maximum temperature of approximately 102° F. The built-in thermostat will automatically regulate the temperature.
  3. After initial warm-up, your Extreme Weather Kitty Pad™ will feel cooler to the touch. This is the intention for energy efficiency. When your pet lies on the bed, it will warm to a comfortable temperature in even the coldest of weather.

Cleaning Instructions: Wash the faux fleece cover on the gentle cycle with cold water, then line dry.

The heated pad can be cleaned using a damp towel or sponge and mild dish washing detergent. DO NOT wash in a washing machine.

Testing Your Extreme Weather Kitty Pad: You can test the pad by placing a large pillow on top of the pad. After about 20 minutes, feel under the pillow. It will feel warm, not hot. DO NOT use an extension cord during this test. DO NOT place anything on the pad (other than the fleece cover provided) any other time. This should only be done during testing.

FAQ

What is the difference between the Extreme Weather Kitty Pad and the Lectro-Soft Outdoor Heated Bed?

The Extreme Weather Kitty Pad is made from a hard ABS plastic whereas the Lectro-Soft is a foam based bed. They both function the same and heat to 102°F.

Do you make a larger version of the Extreme Weather Kitty Pad?

For larger sizes, please look at our Lectro-Kennel. While its packaging shows a dog, the heating pad is identical and available in 3 sizes. And since dogs and cats have the same natural body temperature of 102°F, it can be used for either animal.

May I place the Extreme Weather Kitty Pad in the cats' cardboard box?

Yes, this item may be placed in a cardboard box.

What temperature will an outdoor heated bed or pad reach?

K&H outdoor beds and pads are designed to warm to your pet's normal body temperature of 102°F when he/she lies on the bed or pad. When your pet is not on the bed or pad, the heat will dissipate into the air and the surface temperature will vary according to the ambient air temperature.

Are your heated beds and pads pressure sensitive?

Our beds and pads are NOT pressure sensitive. All K&H heated beds and pads feature dual thermostats and are designed to warm to your pet's normal body temperature when he/she lies on the pad. This is a function of the insulation provided by a pet’s body, not the weight of the pet.K&H beds and pads will emit heat anytime they are plugged in so your pet can sense that heat and be drawn to the bed or pad for warmth and comfort. When your pet is not on the pad, the heat will dissipate into the air and the surface temperature will vary according to the ambient air temperature.

I see that each size has a different wattage. How does that translate to the actual heating temperature?

All of our heated products are thermostatically controlled to heat to 102°F, regardless of the size. The variation in wattage is directly related to the size and the wattage necessary to heat that size bed to 102°F.

How long is the cord?

The cord is 5.5 feet long.

Can I use an extension cord with this product?

MET requires that all manufacturers put the extension cord statement “Do not use with extension cord” on every item that is MET listed by UL 499 standards. This is because they cannot test every extension cord on the market in conjunction with our products for safety. Also, MET suggests that an extension cord is not recommended as a permanent fixture and should only be a temporary solution when using any electrical product.Temporary use of a UL listed cord is fine, but consult your electrician for the proper cord for your application.

How long can a heated bed or pad be plugged in?

MET Safety Laboratories suggests unplugging the bed if you leave your home on an extended vacation, as they do with any electrical appliance. Otherwise, it is designed for 24/7 operation and you can leave it plugged in all day. This item has been certified by MET labs to adhere to strict electrical safety standards.

Is there an off/on switch?

There is not an off/on switch. The pad is always on when plugged in.

Is placing an additional blanket or towel on top of the heated bed or pad recommended?

You never want to place anything on top of a K&H outdoor bed or pad other than the cover provided. This cover allows the warmth to go through whereas a blanket or any other cover will trap the heat inside the bed or pad, possibly causing a malfunction.

Can you place an outdoor heated bed or pad on top of another pet bed or blanket for extra cushioning?

Outdoor heated pet beds and pads should be placed on a flat, stable surface rather than on top of a bed or blanket.

Are K&H outdoor heated beds and pads waterproof?

Our outdoor heated beds and pads are water-resistant. We understand that pets collect snow and water from being outdoors. Our products are designed to be used safely with pets, even when the pet is water-soaked.Please make sure to place the bed or pad in a relatively dry area such as a covered porch, garage, kennel or dog house. The bed or pad should not be placed where there is a potential for standing water from heavy rain and the product should not be immersed in water.

Can I place an outdoor heated bed or pad on the ceiling of a kennel in order to offer heat from above?

Our heated beds require direct contact with an animal's body and do not provide radiant heat. For these reasons, we only recommend placing a heated bed or pad on the floor or sidewall where the dog’s body will come in direct contact with the product.

Is it safe to use this without the cover?

Yes, you can use K&H outdoor heated beds and pads with or without the included cover.

For a garage, would you advise an indoor or outdoor heated product?

For a garage, we recommend an outdoor heated product. They have the features necessary to ensure your pet stays warm in even the coldest of temperatures.

If a pet urinates on a K&H heated bed or pad, will it suffer any harm from the electricity on the mat? Our pet has an incontinence problem.

If your pet urinates on a K&H heated bed or pad, he/she will not suffer any harm.

    Quality Product

    By on

This heating pad fit nicely into the KH house. Its smaller than the electro soft pad but I used it on top of the electro soft and it was considerably warmer. Got my little stray through the polar vortex and -20 windchills since she would not come in. Wish the pad was soft like the other one but it is a hard shell. I put it under the fleece cover and it was fine.

    Cats Love it!

    By on

Ordered the larger one with the cover and the cats just love it. Ordered this one for the second floor of the cat house that we made for the cats. This fits and they love it. Wish this one came with a cover, but it did not so I had to make one. The cats could not be happier, unless I could let them inside. Sorry allergies prevent that.

    Durable and heats well

    By on

The cats fight over the current heating pad so we decided to buy another pad (of a different kind). This is very durable and could stay outside easily if you wanted. We preferred it because of the size. It is hard plastic, the cord is nice and thick and has a flex coil at the base, and it heats well. No complaints!

Safe and effective warmth for semi feral cat in sudden cold temps

    By on

This pad is very well made- hard shell protects the heating elements and the cord looks well insulated and durable. I put a fleece cover over the shell and its in the shelter. So far the cat is happy and so am I! I don’t have to worry.

    Kitty House Heater

    By on

Needed a heat source for my homemade outdoor cat house . The Extreme Weather Kitty Pad seemed to be the best alternative to my needs. I ordered and received it in a timely manner. Our cat apparently loves it. She spends a lot more time in her house now. Only complaint, It didn't come with a fleece cover. The cover was extra and I didn't notice that when I ordered. Luck has it, I had a small fleece bag that fit the heater. Just be sure if you order the heater you order the fleece cover, or be sure one comes with it. Heater manufacturer clams nothing else works properly. To date the heater is functioning fine. It is well made and probably safer for outdoor use than one made of soft flexible Needed a heat source for my homemade outdoor cat house . Great product

    By on

It works as stated. We have a stray kitty that sleeps on our porch but won't come indoors. So we set this up for him on the chair he sleeps on with just a thin fleece throw over it and he loves it. It gets pretty cold outside here and he seemed really comfortable on it even laying on his back at times. I would recommend it but be sure to follow the instructions for it to work as advertised.

    Cold Weather Kitty Pad

    By on

Using the Kitty Pad outdoors...find that when the weather is really cold you can't feel the heat. Would like one that has a thermostat to raise the temperature. I know keep it plugged 24hrs so that It does not get cold. Other wise Iam satisfied. Thank you Chewy

    Small but Great

    By on

It is small. Almost for the size of a kitten but the box the feral cat likes is a little bigger than the matt. I wish it would have came with a fleece cover. So one point minus for no cover.

    Hard Plastic

    By on

I found this to be a quality product however I was quite surprised to find that it is a Hard Rigid Mat without any kind of cover on it not at all like a human heating pad. Not a problem though, I just put a piece of wooly sheep skin on top of it for an outdoor feral kitty that hangs out. Thanks, hope I was able to provide some help to those looking to provide a little comfort to a cold animal.

    This is #3

    By on

I have had 3 of these pads over the past 2-1/2 years. I use them in the "cat houses" K&H sells through Chewy. The pads last about 12 months and the one I am now ordering will be the replacement for the one I have now in my smaller house when it gives out. The "houses" K&H sells are perfect to put these in, but the pads cannot just be put in a chair for cats to lay on outside. The Petite size will NOT keep 2 reg-size cats warm, only one. Cat's body temp is about 102 deg. They must have cover from the winter's winds & snow. They are well worth the price and peace of mind!
