    Not my favorite

By jancat on Dec 25, 2019

I have used K&H products for years. They are well designed, dependable and last. I have purchased every heated outdoor shelter they make, I think. This one is my least favorite. It is the smallest of the shelters, and only has one door. I am using it as an emergency shelter on a covered porch in case I have used K&H products for years. For this, it is adequate, but I would choose one of the other shelters with 2 doors for heavy use. … more

    He will not go in

By Cheri on Oct 24, 2019

Disappointed in this product. My cat will not go in and stay in this shelter. The heating mat is hard and small since it only covers half of the floor. No cushioning, just the thin cover over a hard heating plate. I wouldn't want to lay on something that uncomfortable either.

    Mediocre thus far

We will update our rating & comments after some experience. Arrived ahead of anticipation! Shipped in fine shape! K&H could NOT have made the zipper work any harder if they tried...I have a lot of pet patience...but assembling this shelter was more PAINFUL than it needed to be. Going slow with the zipper is not the answer; the problem is the design. K&H needs to work on their design, BIG TIME! But, time will tell if this helps us with our barn cats...who already have residual heat from a wood boiler room, styrofoam bedroom & a former tent camping cooler bedroom...this is just to provide them one more sleeping option during the Winter. Cheap quality for the price

    By on

This was a bit expensive for what I bought. The electric pad seems very flimsy also. There just isn't much to choose from so I bought this one

    Takes Some Time

    By on

We are two weeks in and our barn kitty is still 'deciding' whether this is safe or not. Pushing her food in further & further. Hope she gets it before the negative temps get here in NE Wyoming! Will bump up rating if there is success. Just know it takes time! Also, left the flap off to reduce clausterphobia.

    Should be water proof

    By on

If you have to put this in the rain, it will get soaked, inside & out. I ended up putting it in a garbage bag to keep it dry.that worked! For the price, it should come with its own rain coat. It works well put under a covered porch. The chemical smell is quite strong in it too. You may have to wash it with soap to rid the strong smell. I started to send it back. I hope I can get the cat to use it.

    Expected more for price.

Bought two of these for several stray cats in the neighborhood as I am trying to also trap and neuter any around my neighborhood. They came with no instructions on how to put them together, the zipper is extremely tight and was afraid of breaking the zipper pull off or getting the zipper teeth separated and not be able to use them. It took me about 20-25 minutes to put the 1st one together. Once I finally figured it out it took me 5 minutes or so to put the 2nd one together. I am a little disappointed that the whole pad is not heated especially since it's being used for the winter/very cold weather. It doesn't get as warm as I thought it would get as well. I just feel like it could have been made a lot nicer than it is as well as a longer chord. I had to take off the plastic door flaps because the cats were not so sure about getting inside the little house. Luckily I have them under my patio steps for added/extra shelter & not in eyes view. But after some catnip spray and a couple sprinkles of catnip after a couple days I finally saw signs that a cat was using it here and there. … more

The shelter was nice and easy to assemble. But it's to short in hight for my kittens.

    By on

Shelter was easy to assemble. To small for kittens not even a year old. But people tell me the kitten's look like full grown cats. Maybe 10 pounds but not fully grown yet. So if you have a small cat this would work. I propped it up with pink foam insulation so they would be able to step into shelter. I put food in the back but they only go in half way and pull dish towards the door of shelter. So they don't use it.

    wonder about insulation??

    By on

This house says for use in extreme temps with only the small pad for heat. There is no insulation in the walls or floor so you could not leave on direct concrete. If you look up other home made beds, it is suggested that you insulate with straw (not hay), mylar, or other insulation. Kitty won't go in it yet, and trying to make it more comfortable for a barn cat. I put a fleece igloo inside to try to trap heat (no newspapers or blankets suggested.) Would only use in dry area surrounded by some type of insulation.

    looks nice

Have a couple of cats outside thought the strays would like this but they didn't even go in maybe its because there is no emergency exit in case they get attacked so I cut an exit on the other side don't think they will be warm enough now
