I bought this cat shelter for a sweet little stray cat..i live in an area in the Midwest that gets cold snowy weather and I was concerned for her safety. • Worked very well for 12 yr old 1/2 feral

    By on

We bought this for our 12 year old black male cat. We can't bring him in on cold nights, cause he is scared of the litter box, runs from it. He is our oldest cat and can be a bit strange at times. Mark set this up in his workshop under a table, where it is protected from rain and some of the wind. He set it inside the chewy box with one end torn out. Cat still has access to both doors and the box gives extra insulation from concrete floor. We bought an extra self warming pad and put that under the house in the box too. Cold from concrete can be very pervasive. Mark put a rag in it that Sylvester had frequently slept on. While we tested the heater, and we have it set up close to a plug, it is not plugged in. So.GA does not get extreme cold for long times. Sylvester loves his house, the other cats seem to know it is his. Our other 4 cats can come inside in severe cold, Sylvester can not. Now I don't have to worry about if he will be warm enough when it drops to freezing. We plan to pull out the extra rag when we do plug it in. The dual doorways are critical to a cat. By nature, they always want an extra way out. We may leave the door flaps off permanently. Not sure Sylvester will accept them. But the back wall of the box serves as a windbreak for the back door. We'll only leave it plugged in for 12 to 15 hours at a stretch. Basically overnight. … more

  • Have used this for several years - still AWESOME

I have read lots of reviews on this. I think some folks do not know how it works. They say it doesn't get hot. No, it will NOT be warm unless a cat sits on the heated pad. It is not hot to the touch but press your hand down on the heated mat and you will feel it. I would not say it is 100% water-proof. If yours is going to be directly out in the elements, I would cover it with something and get it off the ground a few inches. I have used a tarp over my entire house with heavy rain (2 of mine sit under a roofed deck and they do get wet). I had to take the flaps off on one side so my ferals would go inside. Super easy to do this because it is held on by velcro. I do use extension cords - never I have read lots of reviews on this. I think some folks do not know how it works. They say it doesn't get hot. I do make sure the connection is protected from the outside. The fleece wrap on the heated cushion can be removed for washing. We do not get severe cold here but on days where it is quite cold, I leave them on for days at a time. I also use one of those remote on/off clickers (you can find it during Christmas) that folks use to turn on holiday lights. This way I do not distrub the ferals. Works great, plus I can turn the houses on/off from inside my own house. I have also purchased just the heated cushion for my one feral who uses the cat door into my garage. He is always on it. I have another type of heated cushion but he is always on this one. I have several of these and they have held up wonderfully. I store them in my shed during the summer but when I bring them out in the late fall, my ferals get excited and go right in them. … more

  • Cozy Cat House

    By on

My cat loves this Cat House! She is an outdoor cat that has access to the garage through a Cat Door. Once we set up this cat house inside the garage, she didn't want to leave it! It keeps her warm and she even fogged over the flap door when the temp's got into the 20's. She is cozy & we don't need to worry about her this winter. To get her to use it, we put out the warm fleece mat first...2 days later put on the sides & clipped the flaps up....2 days later zipped the roof on & dropped the doors down. She liked the warm fleece & kept coming to it through each transition to the full house. Great Product!

  • Heated Houses a Big Hit

    By on

It's cold outside...and I have several cats....that live outside in the barn and on the porch. I had 3 of these Cat Houses for about 5 years...other than fading on the exterior...they are well used and in good working condition. I ordered 2 more..and Chewy.com had the lowest price on them. They are easy to set up and use. In the summer I remove the heating pad. In the winter I do wrap them with aluminum bubble wrap which keeps the kitties snug and warm. They love them. Great item and Chewy was great..they came within 3 days. Thank you.

  • Looks great- should do the job.

This is an upgrade from Styrofoam packing boxes with light bulbs for heat, which we used last year for our stray brother/sister duo. They will probably always be outdoor guys, since "Katia" is still wary, and it seems that she will never be comfortable indoors. We try to do our best for them (they are spayed/neutered and vaccinated), but the cold weather is always a concern. The houses (we bought two), seem sturdy enough, although we will be sure to use them in a protected area, since they are not meant to handle extreme weather, such as heavy snowfall. The heating pads worked well when we tested them. Hoping the guys accept them; we have not yet gotten around to removing the old houses This is an upgrade from Styrofoam packing boxes with light bulbs for heat, which we used last year for our stray brother/sister duo. • Feral cat loves the house

    By on

The house was so-o-o easy to put together...Took just 5 minutes! It was our first Florida cold night of the year. After supper, I put the house on the front patio and plugged it in. So easy!! Checked an hour later and our outdoor feral cat was already inside, all nice and cozy! No doubt....She approves it! NOTE to other cat lovers: We trapped this feral cat and took her to S.P.O.T. for immunizations and to be neutered. She hangs around to be fed, but won't be touched. This house is a perfect cold weather shelter for her. (During the recent hurricane, she hid inside our covered boat.)

  • Best house ever..

I purchased a total of four of these heated houses. Three are on my covered porch for a feral cat family that I've been taking care of for the past five years. The other is in my garage for an abandoned cat that was left behind by a neighbor. They all love them and especially on a cold night like tonight it's nice to know they have some warmth and comfort. They love their houses. Easy to assemble and very low cost to run. I highly recommend this item also you can't beat the price.

  • Perfect solution

    By on

The outdoor heated kitty house was perfect for our outdoor cat. She likes to go out at night and it gets cold here. We try to get her to come in when we go to bed, but she is obstinate sometimes, and stays outside. I always worried about her when that happened, but now I can sleep easy since she uses the kitty house when she stays out. It is a 50/50 choice on her part, but a 100% peace of mind on my part.

  • Happy Kitties!

    By on

I bought 2 of these so each of my girls can have their own. I had to move to a place that did not allow indoor pets and after searching online I decided to try these. Chewy had the BEST prices......same product I saw for $100.00 more on other popular sites....crazy!!!! Both cats love them. We have had our first snow and frost and they have stayed warm inside them...I did add a very small kitty bed to each (not room for anything larger). I am very happy with this purchase!
