I bought two of the K&H Outdoor Kitty Houses years ago and they still work GREAT! This is my third outdoor house I bought for another outdoor kitty. The kitties stay nice and warm all winter in my garage. I keep the outdoor houses plugged in all winter and just unplug them in spring. They have got to be the best thing ever made for outdoor cats. They all just love to come into the garage and warm up on those cold winter days & nights here in the northeast. Thank you K&H for caring about the animals that are not just inside our homes, but also the ones that live outdoors too! Love, love, love this product, and the kitties love, love love it too!!!
These houses with the heated bed is absolutely wonderful. We have 3 outside cats and they keep our kitties nice and warm. We even have the big dog house and heated bed from this company for our dog and he loves it as well. Before we invested in these, we used heat lamps and that in itself is a whole situation to deal with and worry about. When we were gone on vacation or gone for the day those would be turned off. But with these wonderful heated beds, our pets stay warm all day and all night without the danger of heat lamps. So glad we decided to get these. You will not be disappointed!
I have been taking care of "Yellow Boy," a yellow tomcat, for nearly four years! He is still very shy, but will touch his nose to my fingertip when I hold my hand out to him. He used to live under a vacant house. But, when the owner wanted to close up the foundation, I had to lure him up to our property. This took nearly six months! As winter approached I wanted to find some way to keep him from freezing to death! I bought this heated house and am so thankful that I did. For the first week or so, he only stepped gingerly into it when I put his food and treats inside. Then, I got the idea to set the house inside the small doghouse that I had been using for him. That way it "looked" sort of normal. Within three weeks total he was "sold" on it. I think the zero degree weather we had for a week over Christmas helped him get up his courage! Now, I see him inside of it a lot. I left the back "window" in place, because even I could not see it!! I wish I could put the "front window" in place, but I feel sure that would totally scare him to death! Maybe for next winter. Anyway, this product is a winner and I am so thankful that Yellow Boy is pretty warm and cozy!!
Fairly easy to assemble and requires no tools as it is held together by strong velcro. As many others have stated, I had to take the cat doors off because my cats would not go in. Actually, I haven't seen them go in still, except far enough to get the treats and then back out. It is light weight, so don't put it where the wind can blow it away. The heat is not very noticeable to the touch but I know if my cats would just get in it they would feel it and love it. It's big enough for an average size cat. A big catcould squeeze in but- would they even try? So, it's a good little house if your cat will go in.
We returned this house for the extra wide version. The website lists the exterior dimensions only, but the box it comes in lists both exterior and interior. The interior is about six inches smaller in the width and length. I did not expect it to be that much of a difference. Our cat weighs 8 pounds and is small, but we wanted her to have more room. Exchanging it was a breeze with Chewy customer services. WE LOVE CHEWY! The extra wide is perfect. We also have the heating mat out in the open (on the porch, but not enclosed. This way our cat and dog can have some heat while taking in the scenery or keeping an eye out for critters in their backyard. We love the mat too. Our cat was a little hesitant at first. She was used to sleeping in a converted plastic storage tub with heated microwave beds. But she has adjusted. Thanks Chewy for great customer service.
I bought the olive green. Nicely made. Sturdy. Velcro that holds walls and roof together is strong. Easily folds together and stays in place. It fits a small to medium cat. A larger cat might find it too small. The cat I bought it for does not seem to like the enclosed space, even with the roof partially open, and won't stay inside for very long. So I removed the heated pad and placed on a solid surface in my garage. Within a day she was sleeping on it. I think it heats up to a nice temperature. If she would stay inside the cat house, I think the heated pad and house combined would make a cozy, warm space.
I have been using this cat house for 2 years. The heat output is so minimal that I can barely feel it when placing my hand on it. It doesn’t keep wet cat food from freezing in the winter. As it is not waterproof, I bought a large plastic bin, and cut holes to match the smaller cat house, plus a hole for the plug. Even when inside of this, the heat output is barely detectable. No ferals have used this, but prefer to eat outside of it and sleep elsewhere. Definitely not a durable product, and heating function is barely detectable. Would not recommend.
We have an outside stray kitty we've been feeding over the past year, and I bought this house/heating pad before the first frost. It took less than 5 minutes for me to put it together - Instructions were clear and fairly easy. I like the way it is constructed and made with good materials. It's sturdy and not cheap looking. First, I put it on the back porch near the door, next to his food dishes, so he would get used to seeing it. Two and a half months later he still didn't use it at all. I'd put his food bowl inside and he'd put two feet in to eat and then leave. Occasionally one of our indoor/outdoor cats would be found in it while waiting to come back inside when it was raining. As it started to get colder we'd find him sleeping on a bench on the front porch. I put the heated pad on the bench, but he wouldn't sit on it. We grew more concerned when an arctic cold blast was coming our way. I brought the kitty house to the front porch, put the heat pad back into it and set it underneath one of the patio chairs. Then I put a cardboard box with an old towel on the bench. He used the box for 2 nights. Then on the third night of temps lower than 10 degrees, he was FINALLY seen going into the house. It took almost 3 months but he loves it now! He is happy and warm and I'm so glad I bought this.
My cat loves to sleep by the window but doesn't like the winter chill- this was the perfect solution! She naps in this house all day long, and the level of warmth is perfect to keep her comfortable without getting overheated. Plus the design (barn) is super cute!
Easy to put together. Nice quality, seems sturdy, with quality out door material. The 2 doors are easy to take on an off. We got the Camo to blend in outdoors. We havn't tried it yet. Will get back to you when we plug it in and start using.
