Pee balls will stick
I purchased two of these boxes for my Maine Coon that has advanced arthritis and hip dysplasia. One is in the basement on a tiled floor and the other is on the main floor on carpet. It is much easier for the cat to get in and out of this box, so it serves the purpose. However, it has two problems. First, I agree with the reviewer who said that the pee balls will stick to the box. I have encountered the same thing, even when the cat does not dig all the way to the bottom of the box. It takes some scraping to get the entire pee ball out of the box. Second, due to the low sides and very low opening, litter goes everywhere. I expected this to happen, but the volume of litter that gets on the floor is incredible. I recommend that if you purchase this box, to keep the very minimum amount of litter in it, and plan to sweep or vacuum daily. Also, get one or multiple litter catch mats. The box works as intended, but a cat will generate a mess when it is used. I've never put litter box liners in any of the boxes my cats have used, but I think that this box would be too shallow. It would probably wind up getting shredded.
Great litter pan
I bought this for my Pinky. She is 17 1/2 years old and suffering from various controllable illnesses except for arthritis. This pan is excellent for her getting into and out of the litter pan. It scoops up pee-pee very well, getting all the debris. The material is made well for clean-up. I have several large kitties, they love the width this pan is, they fit in it very well.
KittyGoHere senior cat litter box
Full disclosure, I purchased the small box, not the large one, and the box is still unused. Out of the box, it appears to be a good sturdy litter box. It is much larger than I expected a small pan to be. I should pay more attention to dimensions when ordering. It was purchased for my 16 1/2 year old cat who was on crate rest and was also having trouble getting in and out of a litter box. This box was too large to fit in the crate along with the other necessities, so it was not used. However, the first thing I noticed, as others have commented on, was there was no coating on the surface of the pan (I should read reviews first). I imagine this would make it very difficult to clean. The second thing others have commented on is the height of the pan. This would not have been an issue for my cat. He was not a "high shooter" so he really didn't need high sides to the pan, though higher sides would make for a better pan. The sides and back are no lower than the normal sized litter pans I already have. The front of the pan is lower in order to allow easy access. Litter could scatter on the floor out of the entry section if the cat likes to move the litter, or over the sides if the box is overfilled with litter. Sadly, my little one passed away last week. The box won't be used.
A good idea
We have two special needs cats, one of whom refuses or cannot use any number of different stype litter boxes. So we thought we'd try this one. The one who never has accidents (a tripod) prefers this box, and the other actually has used this box, but not with any regularity. In fairness, the tripod is only a year old and "Mr. Accident" (who has a neurological disorder that affects his hindquarters) is nearly 5 and set in his ways. I would recommend anyone with a cat that has limited mobility, whatever the reason, at least give this a try. We bought the larger size because "Mr. Accident" is a medium sized cat and needs room to move because of his disability.
Necessary for older kitties
This litter box just arrived and we've been looking forward to it. Day 1 and it's a 5-star from us. Our old lady cat is 13 and, like many, we're managing a handful of conditions. Mainly CKD, hyperthyroid, and joint inflammation. Her thyroid is medicated (early days) and she's just started joint supplements (welactin -- also recommend). So, as expected, urination and hydration have increased. What we didn't realize is our kitty hated her former litter box. She would use it, but it must have become increasingly uncomfortable (high step to get into, not enough room on the sides). Just a few days ago, we discovered the spots she's been using instead. We had no idea. A little bit of research, and we found this litter box. It's exactly what our little girl needed. She used it right away and started purring. Who knew I'd shed a tear watching my cat take a massive, happy, comfy poop? We've found similar boxes, which are smaller, that we've placed elsewhere around the house. And her stress has just melted away. So if you're reading this and have a similar situation, add an additional box to the house. No one likes running across a house when you really have to go. Chewy has fast shipping and very good prices, so it's our go-to service. And, getting so many things through them -- food, pill pockets, supplements, you name it -- I'm so happy, I'm actually writing a review for a plastic box my cat pees in.
Excellent product
So I was a bit skeptical when my vet insisted that we get a special litter box for our 14-yr old cat. Admittedly, he moves a lot slower and hopping in and out of a covered box might be a challenge. So far so good. He uses the box and it performs as expected. Ours is located in an alcove, that is really only accessible on the short side as shown in the picture. The only thing I see as a possible issue is if you have a cat who likes to spray the side of a covered box or chooses a corner as opposed to the middle, you might find an occasional accident outside the box. We've had the box for a little over a week and have encountered this once already. But overall, solid product and would recommend.
Cannot find liners to fit!
Needed to find a low profile box bc my senior cat had trouble stepping in/out - issue is I cannot find liners that fit. Wish they would couple it w the proper liners - any recommendations welcome
Kat’s meow
I am almost 17 and have been arthritic for the last 5. Medication makes me sleepy and i sleep a lot now that both my sisters have moved on. (I am the middle feline). I loved the corner high hooded box I shared with my sisters but sometimes stepping up hurt so I peed at the edge and missed. Mom got me this recently and it is easy to step in and out of. I kick litter around and occasionally pee outside the edge a bit but mom has piddle pads around the box. She got me the smaller of the two sizes and I say it is purrfect for me.
Box does the job
The box is spacious and easy entry which I like but would be ideal if the sides were a couple inches higher for those cats whose backside can't squat as low. Plastic seems a little flimsy, so it's a pricey box, but again, it does the job as long as old man kitty uses it rather than the floor.
Great for Seniors and Amputee Cat
This was bought for an older cat with three legs who has difficulty getting using smaller boxes. This box is lower, which makes it easier for him to get in and out, and it's the perfect size for him to hop in it a bit.
