  • Rubber Smell The Dog Doesn't Enjoy

    By on

My dog (like most dogs, I'm sure) enjoys digging in these treat dispensers and it is a good way to keep them happy with a challenge while they are getting a treat. I've found that the KONGs are very durable, but on the rare occasions that I need to replace them the overwhelming rubber smell is very off-putting for my dog. I've soaked them in soapy water for days in an attempt to reduce or eliminate the odor with only questionable results. She doesn't like to carry it in her mouth because of the smell and (undoubtedly) flavor the new rubber. If my dog can stick with it I'm willing to bet time, the treats and her slobber will change the odor and taste of this product to something less offensive My dog (like most dogs, I'm sure) enjoys digging in these treat dispensers and it is a good way to keep them happy with a challenge while they are getting a treat. • Mixed feelings - safe but not very fun without treats

My dog destroys all stuffed toys within the first day so I wanted something I could be safe leaving her alone with to chew. I just put a little peanut butter in and it always keeps her occupied for an hour or so, so I'm happy with that. However, while I feel confident leaving my 30 lb Cocker Spaniel mix alone with the medium Kong I bought (there's no way she's chewing through it), I noticed she shows absolutely 0 interest in the toy unless I've placed food inside, probably because it doesn't roll as nicely as a ball does. The toy is a bit on the higher end of the price spectrum, and you're definitely getting a good quality toy, but I wanted her to also be inherently interested in it too, without me having to bribe her. Still, I'd say that there's no harm in any dog owner having a Kong ready and loaded in their freezer, for a no-worries chew. … more

  • great toy!

    By on Top 250 Contributor

Started buying the Kong classic well over 15 years ago for our Rottweilers and then our Greyhounds who loved chewing on this toy. It would take months if not years for them to damage a Kong. A couple months ago we rescued a AmStaff from our local animal shelter and Fenrir was able to destroy a Kong that was probably about 10 years old in less than 5 minuets. I'm giving this five stars because if you have a light to average chewing dog then this toy may actually out live your dog. If you own a heavy chewer than you should probably look at the Kong extreme.

  • Love it But Size is Different than I Thought

    By on

My dog loves this toy (stuffed with frozen peanut butter) MUCH more even than I anticipated him liking it. He is a small terrier mix, about 13lbs, so I got the smaller sized kong (the one recommended for his weight). Despite him loving the kong, he is a big chewer and this kong seems way too tiny for him. I am letting him use it under supervision and will see how long it lasts, but if you have a smaller dog I would recommend getting a normal size to start if your dog has a history of destroying toys.

  • Kongs are a classic

    By on

They work great for all dogs if you get the right type and size. There's a pamphlet hidden in the back if you want more details (though they're more useful before buying). Bought my shiba a regular small one but it wasn't quite right for her. It's the perfect size for my sister's Chihuahua though! I got my pup a medium puppy kong instead since she doesn't chew much and the hole is big enough for her to get all of the treats out - no more untouched treats at the bottom of it now!

  • My hound mix is a heavy chewer.

    By on

She still hasn't been able to chew through it. I thought I needed the black one...but not yet. Still looks like new. She loves when I fill it up with kibble mixed with peanut butter. My pup has separation anxiety, so this helps distract her when my husband and I go out.

  • Best chew toys

    By on

I got a small one for our smaller Boston Terrier and she isn't too much into toys or chewing. When we add a treat inside or some peanut butter she is occupied for at least an hour or more. The larger Boston Terrier uses the medium size and loves to chew it and play with it with or without treats. She loves toys and loves to hoard them.

  • The most important dog toy

    By on

If you only have one dog toy, make sure it's the classic Kong. You can stuff it with food, freeze it, throw it, or whatever else. It's one out of only three toys that I trust my heavy chewer with alone in his crate. It's well worth the money and will likely last you a long time.

  • This is a classic for good reason

    By on

It was supposed to be a Christmas present for my pit but as soon as it was unpacked both dogs went crazy for it and it didn't even have treats in it. My older, smaller Kong is 6 years old and still in great shape so I expect this one to be just as sturdy.

  • My dog loves it.

    By on

My pitbull/ American Bully is turning 1 oct.7 and she chews on alot of my shoes and stuff when I'm not home. So I bought her toy and she loves it. It keeps her busy for alil while. I stuff it with wet kibble and put peanut butter at the hole and freeze it so it will take her awhile to finish it. The large classic is alil too small for my dog. So in a couple of weeks I'll be getting her the Kong extreme in XXL.
