We got this hoping it would be a more comfortable cone alternative while our dog is healing from CCL surgery. While it definitely is more comfortable, he can only wear it under supervision. I even sized up, just to be sure it would be big enough, but he can still get around it to his leg. While we are sleeping or unable to keep an eye on him, the traditional cone goes back on. Since he can still lick his back leg, this isn’t a 100% alternative for us. We even looped in a regular collar so he could push it off or slide it around.
I could see it working better for spay/neuter surgeries or less long, athletic dogs. However, be prepared and have a traditional cone, just in case.
He hates it, but not NEARLY as much as the cone.

At the very least he looks comfortable sleeping in this, compared to the cone which he immediately backed himself into a corner with and pushed off his head with his rear legs. I don't recommend normal cones unless you absolutely have to.
Pro tip: When you get this, be sure your pet can get in and out of at least one of their hiding spots. Oh and head scratches and treats make it a lot easier on them since they can't head scratch on their own. Once we started a pattern of head scratches and treats while he wore it he seemed to be less upset about his situation.
Really Comfy and Useful for Gentle, Elderly Rescued Hot Mess Dog

I bought the size Small for an elderly deaf/ blind Shih Tzu Boy I just rescued...I needed to remove about 15 stitches from his back legs (tumor removals), and a muzzle was not necessary nor feasible for this guy. (He is also missing his lower jaw! Poor little guy!). This collar also came in handy for his tri-weekly medicated body spraying (for a bacterial skin infection), which is a bit cold and unpleasant. This inflatable collar attached to his neck collar keeps his head supported (he’s a very old man), and keeps him comfy while I treat him. Simple to deflate and reuse. Packs away small and flat. It also kept him from chewing his infected toes at night (he was a train wreck when I got himI bought the size Small for an elderly deaf/ blind Shih Tzu Boy I just rescued...I needed to remove about 15 stitches from his back legs (tumor removals), and a muzzle was not necessary nor feasible for this guy. Ziggy is a blind/ deaf, gentle elderly dog, so this collar is extremely helpful for him. I have used this collar to get him acclimated to his new home, as he is blind, he tends to hit his head when going under the coffee table...but not with this on! The collar gave him enough of a clearance so that he was a little safer exploring his home.
I have used this collar in a larger size on a younger, healthier dog, and it was fairly useless as an e-collar, - so for that dog we ended up using a regular e-collar, to keep him from chewing his body & the collar. Depending on the animal, and what you intend to use this for...I’d say it works best, for me, with smaller animals, for certain temporary purposes.… more
Does not prevent foot licking
on Sep 15, 2020
Our boy has a granuloma on his back paw and we got this hoping it would prevent him from licking the topical medication off, so we could remove the boot for a while. Unfortunately, it does not prevent him from getting to the paw, so the boot has to stay for now. However, the collar does seem to be keeping him from going after his paw as often, and it's much more comfortable for him than the Cone of Shame.

Bought this for my dog after her spaying surgery. Luckily, she isn’t interested in licking at the incision site, however, the one time she did try, this didn’t stop her one bit. This will not work for a dog who is truly determined to lick. I found that turning the strap towards her back rather than leaving it at the front helped in keeping her head up, but if she wanted to, she could still lick her incision site. I’ve found that this is great for calming her down and keeping her from jumping on furniture, rather than keeping her from licking. I would recommend buying a body suit if you want to keep your dog from licking an area.
It worked but didn’t last

I was very happy with the product since the alternative was a cone which terrified my dog. Literally had it 6 days & he tore it up somehow. I have a limited budget as it is & I was so frustrated that I spent the money. If you are home a lot or work at home, this is a great option so you can keep an eye on your pet. He could eat, move & sleep comfortably with it on. I thought the Kong product would be a bit more durable. I’d give a higher rating but I’m so ticked off that I came home to this
Does not replace plastic cone.

I believe some reviewers have had success with this cushion due to the location of injury/hot spot on the animal. My 110lbs mastador has been licking his paws in boredom while recovering from a knee injury and so I needed to cone him for an extended period. While the XL cushion fit my dog comfortably, it did not restrict his access to both front and rear paws, and I will say he is not exceptionally flexible. So back to the cone we go..
Got this for pup's neuter recovery

My pupper absolutely hated the cone! Luckily, I had bought this before his neuter just in case this happened. I love how it's attached to the collar so it's a more secure fit. However, he managed to nearly chew through the black strap so I had to remove it.
Despite that, I would still recommend as an alternative to the cone of shame. Just keep a real close eye on them!

My poor doggy was impailed by a piece of wood sticking out underneath my bed. It was devastating to see her in pain . The vet sent her home with a e collar but she hated it. It was so bulky and she could never get comfortable with it on she would cry and cry but we couldn’t take it off or she would lick her wound. I ordered this and did receive it fairly quickly. It was definitely more comfortable for her and she could also eat and sleep with it on. It was much easier to get on and off than the e collar as well. I would recommend this for every pet owner to have because you never know when it will come in handy and it definitely was a lifesaver! Thanks chewy !
Lasted About a Day and a Half

This was fine until our dog threw a temper tantrum in her crate and got out of her collar and Kong Cloud Collar. She popped it in a matter of seconds with one tooth. Cover is a thin fuzzy material and not protective enough of the air pillow inside. If Kong were to cover it in their material used for their dog beds or tough toys it probably would have lasted longer.
