I have 3 Goldens that love to chew toys. They have done well with Kong products so we stick to ordering the brand. The tire...while the reviews said its smaller than customers accepted is an understatement. It truly is SMALL.
Not Kong Extreme Worthy
I bought this for my Great Dane, Miles, as a Birthday toy. It was demolished within three minutes. This is not worthy of being labeled as Kong Extreme. Disappointed. At least he had fun destroying it!
Only Toy That Still Stands
I have a 13 month old Labrador retriever, who is a very aggressive chewer. He destroys ALL his toys, even for “extreme chewers” within 20 minutes. This Kong Tire is the only toy that has survived for 6 months. My dog LOVES this toy. It does have a rubber smell, but only when it’s up close and it’s honestly worth having a toy I don’t have to take away because it’s destroyed. It’s kinda small, I wish they made this product in larger sizes. It fits in his mouth, but it’s too large that he would ever swallow. It’s great for fetch, I’ve thrown this toy probably 3,000 times. Also doesn’t hurt my feet if he drops it on me. Highly recommend!!
Great fetch toy
Bought this for my German shorthaired pointer figuring he would tear it up like the rest of his Kong toys (isn’t that what they’re made for?), but he actually held onto it for three years and finally decided to destroy it to bits tonight after several years of using it as his preferred fetch toy. We got a good run with it so I’m ordering him another. A lot of comments talk about it’s durability and while it’s not designed for extreme chewers, it really just depends on whether your dog is the type to keep a favorite toy. If you need a super durable toy - this isn’t it. Kong does make an oversized tire / rope toy that is literally made out of tire rubber.
Didn't like it
It is too small although it says Medium/large and it is not tough enough for my dog. It's good for a small dog. I plan to return it.
perfect for chewers
this is great for chewers, hes been chewing on it and he cant tear it. love this. i even put a treat in it, he worked on it, got it out but tire never ripped
Definitely not Extreme
I use the original Extreme Kong toy and my dog hasn't destroyed it. I had high hopes for this tire, but alas he chewed it to pieces in a matter of days. Don't buy this if you have a super chewer. My Shepherd mix is only 67lbs and he annihilated it. I'll stick to the regular extreme Kong from now on.
Durable and texture holds interest
My young doberman/whippet has a hard time getting interested in smooth toys that stand up best to her extreme chewing, but the KONG tire is a favorite of hers that she can't chew through (yet). The texture and shape are perfect for her to gnaw on and toss around.
I got this and the extreme regular shaped kong for my 8 mo old Brit pup. In two minutes was chewing chunks off of both. Cannot possibly be for an extreme chewer. Don't buy.
Great toy for a super-chewer!
Our dog destroys toys quicker than we can buy them, but the Kong Extreme toys not only last -- she loves them! And the fact that you can hide treats in them is an added bonus that can leave her playing with them for hours! A must purchase for all super-chewers!
