About Kurgo Gear
Kurgo believes that your dog deserves to go everywhere you go, safely and comfortably. Way back in the early 2000s, before dog travel gear was a thing, Kurgo set out to solve a problem: how to keep the family dog from jumping in the front seat of the car. After lots of brainstorming and prototypes, their Backseat Barrier was born. Twenty plus years later, they’re still finding new ways for you and your dog to go together in confidence.
I have not yet tried this out, am still getting leery pup used to the car. She is about 21 lbs, a miniature Australian Shepherd. This is a VERY sturdy tether! In fact I have some concern about the heavy weight of the metal clip. It is made of very heavy steel. I know it has to be able to hold an up to 80-lb dog in an accident, but my concern is whether it could injure a smaller dog. I will have to see when I get my dog into the whole set-up, how much 'play' there is in the tether arrangement. But it sure does appear reliable!
Love it! Dog isn't sure yet, but like the car seat compared to the kennel.
We have the Ruffwear safety tested harness that utilizes the seat belt through a loop on the harness. My dog would get in awkward positions with the seat belt. We used this swivel tether on the child restraint car attachment point behind the headrests. The problem is solved. We are happier and safer.
I had not heard of seat belt tethers until recently. It makes sense, particularly when paired with a strong harness. I live near two interstates and not a week goes by that a pet is not lost in the area in an accident. It is now firmly attached in our car and works easily, doesn't come loose, and is a wonderful safety measure for beloved pets.
I love that i can easily transport this to any car. It’s easy to use, just secure the seat belt, lock it and strap this on the seat belt. The clip is pretty thick so you definitely want to make sure the harness your dog is wearing with work with it. Overall, I love it!
I don't love this tether, but it works and feels safe. The tether is easy to use, not sure why one reviewer had to cut their pup out of it (user error?), it swivels great, locks great, and is secure. However, I feel like the hook is way to big for a dog under 30 lbs, and the cord is extremely short. I think this probably works for most calm, big dogs, but for my small, likes to move around a lot pup, it's meh. I do wish they offered different sizes. I like how sturdy the hook is, but it's just not really working for us.
The product certainly looked sturdy, but before I was able to try it, my Labrador puppy decided it would be a good chew toy! It is now unusable.
Very poor instructions. I could not get the tether hook undone and my puppy got so crazy that I had to cut it loose from the seatbelt. The washer mechanism that fits over the hook would not loosen for me to get my dog out of the car. 3 humans tried to untwist it. Once I cut the strap free from the seatbelt, I was able to unscrew the washer and remove the tether hook from my dog's harness.. Why would the washer not work with the dog/harness attached to the tether? Now I'm out of a tether. The manufacturer should replace the tether or give me a refund.
Using in a Jeep wagon made for children that I’m using for my frenchie who had an injury and can no longer go on long walks. Because the wagon wasn’t made for dogs, there isn’t a tether. I attached the slip knot part of the tether to a nylon strap on the floor of the wagon and the carabiner side to a front hook harness. It works perfect and he’s so happy to be able to join us on walks again. He’s able to move around, sit down, stand up, etc because the carabiner is on a swivel, so it never gets tangled or twisted up. The carabiner is really big, which honestly makes sense given it needs to hold a dog in a car...but I would be hesitant to recommend it for a smaller dog (my guy weighs about 30lbs) just because of the weight.
You need to find a way to lock your seat belt otherwise they can move way too much. We have two dogs and they were moving past one another and then they were stuck in one place and not able to move at all. Will have to research how to lock the belt.
