Side effects with chlorambucil may come on slowly and tend to be most severe about 1-2 weeks after the drug is started. Common but not serious side effects include: Dogs: Loss of fur. Many dogs receiving chemotherapy will have minor hair coat changes (eg, shagginess, loss of luster). Breeds with continuously growing hair coats (eg, poodles, terriers, Afghan hounds, or old English sheepdogs) are more likely to experience significant hair loss.
Side effects that may be serious or indicate a serious problem: Low energy level or fever. Lack of appetite, vomiting, or diarrhea. Bleeding or bruising. Difficulty breathing. Agitation (ie, anxious, nervous, upset, unable to relax). Facial or eye twitching. Seizures (rare). Contact your veterinarian immediately if you see any of these signs
Chlorambucil should not be used in patients whose disease has demonstrated a prior resistance to the agent. Patients who have demonstrated hypersensitivity to chlorambucil should not be given the drug. There may be cross-hypersensitivity (skin rash) between chlorambucil and other alkylating agents.
This medication should not be used in pets whose disease has demonstrated a prior resistance to the agent. Pets who have demonstrated hypersensitivity to this medication should not be given the drug. There may be cross-hypersensitivity between Leukeran and other agents.

Leukeran is the brand name for (generic) chlorambucil. It is an immune system suppressing drug given to dogs or cats for immune-mediated disorders such as cancer, including leukemia and lymphoma. It is also used as a treatment for severe non-responsive Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).
My cat has been on chlorambucil (the generic) fo 1.5 years but I've become concerned about the quality of compounded medications and wanted to make the switch to Leukeran since he's only taking it once a week now. Price from Chewy was comparable to buying from a human pharmacy. Shipping was great it was packed well with lots of ice packs and these are very small easy to pill.
I haven’t used this drug (chlorambucil) before but was told the side effects can be quite dire. My dog's canine gastroenterologist has prescribed it as a last ditch effort to help my little rescue who suffered for 3 years with diarrhea caused by undiagnosed pancreatitis. The nice man I spoke with at Chewy pointed me towards the additional prescriber information (I hadn’t noticed the link) which is very helpful and recommended reading for anyone using this drug for the first time.
