buy the extended warranty
Whatever you do, make sure you buy the extended warranty. Our scale failed just outside of a year, and thankfully we have a 3 year warranty. It’s still extremely inconvenient, as it takes weeks to get with Whisker support and get a new box. It’s unusable in the meantime, as it gets stuck upside down and empty of litter. Thankfully we were home when it happened, or the cats might’ve had accidents around the house. We’ve had to purchase a backup litterbox until we receive a new base from Whisker.
We’ve had problems with the box since day 1. Poop and wet pee litter stick to the drum, and the waste drawer gets… moldy. The smell is way worse than a regular litterbox. We’ve had to buy air filters, $40/box litter, and desiccant packs just to make the LR smell like a NORMAL litterbox. We’ve spent way more time trying to clean the inside of the drum than we would just scooping a box. I’ve tried everything recommended by the LR communities and Whisker support. The product just needs a re-work - starting with the material of the drum.
I’ve seen way better reviews of the LR3, but went with the 4 because it is supposed to be quieter. I really wish we had gone with the trusted 3.
Best Invention Ever!
I will list cons first:
since my cats like to go in head first, their pee ends up in front on the edge of the litter so does not get picked up during the cycle. I have to frequently clean that off.
It is taller than my 3 pan system.
It is very expensive.
Pros:
I don’t care about the cleaning part. I don’t have to lift 20-30 pounds of litter (3 pan system) twice a day! And the material used to produce the barrel is easy to clean.
It turns so empties itself without a rake pulling through to clog the system.
It is quiet.
I cut the bag in two, hot sealing the end of the second piece, so can merely lift it out of the receptacle, empty it into my 4 gallon bagged pail as I used in the past, and reuse the bag.
My 7 cats started using it after a little perusal to assure themselves it wouldn’t eat them.
I recommend this to everyone who wants to save their back (by lifting any pans) and time.
Litter Robot 4
I love this option for litter boxes!! One of my cats started using it right away, and she will do anything for treats so that helped get her into it. Her sister however has put her paw down so far!! She will hold her need to go potty for I am not sure how long, but I have not had the courage to go more than 6 hours so far in removing the old litter box. She is scared of the robot-so that is how it sits so far. The sister cat won't do anything she doesn't choose to for a treat so I am seeking wisdom on how to encourage her without forcing the issue and creating problems. Any insights and thoughts welcome!! I really love this product and want to use it to the full extent!!

Fault Bot
Bought a week ago by my husband so we could fix issues with a old cat having bathroom troubles and for cleanliness while we travel. We haven’t gone a single day without multiple cycle breaking faults. Motor fault, cycle fault, draw full even though it’s basically empty. I’ve taken the hood off of it so much I think I could probably build one of these. I’ve had to fiddle with the litter levels, fiddle with the drawer bag, fiddle with the globe. Every morning, I find it stuck in the picture position and spend 15 minutes fiddling to get it back to “home” position. I’ve watched enough of their tutorials and read enough Reddit posts to make me want to return it… but they wanted another $60 to send it back. For the short bursts that it works as intended, the cats seem to like it, so I’ll give it that much.
Litter Robot 4 is AMAZING!!
I bought the Litter Robot 4 for a senior friend of mine who has 2 cats. It is getting harder for him to take care of the litter box for his cats. We were afraid we were going to have to find his cats a new home. However the Litter Robot is perfect for him. You only have to empty the poop pin once a week for 2 cats and there is no smell. He is very happy. He said his cats our his family.

I love the Litter-Robot 4!!! Yes, it is very expensive and I had to put a lot of thought into it before making the purchase. The 90 day return policy was a good incentive because I wasn't sure how my cats (2) would take to using one litter box.
Well, they took to it like a charm. As a matter of fact, for a couple days they were both very curious and fascinated with it. And me, I couldn't be more happy. No more messy scoping and no odor! I would definitely recommend this product. One of the best purchases I have made in a long time!

works but…
Ok, I owned the original LR like 15 years ago and loved it. Bit the bullet and bought this one after I finally found a litter I liked that performed well. CATIT is awesome litter but this LR 4 dumps the majority of it every single time. I fill it well below the line and still…every time there’s only 2-3 cups left. I’m assuming it’s too light. Big bummer since I despise clay litter and transitioned from pine pellets to lavender Catit. Great litter but doesn’t work with this unit. Now what? Send it back or switch litter again…ugh.

Not as "clean-free" as advertised
We have two male ragdolls kittens (5 months old) that we acquired through a breeder in June 2023. The kittens are trained to use a Litter Robot as well as a traditional litter box, but the breeder strongly suggested we purchase a Litter Robot because of the “no-scooping” element. So, we purchased Litter Robot’s most current product, a Litter Robot 4 from chewy.com.
The kittens are wonderful, but we’ve had odor problems, specifically with debris left on the walls after cycling, and also if the drawer is not emptied every 3-4 days. Cats generally scratch the surface to cover waste, and we’ve noticed waste residue on their paws or on the floor, which is surprising because the front guard purportedly eliminates this. We never had this problem using a traditional litter box (except stray litter on the floor from covering waste after use), and the box was scooped every other day and washed monthly. The other problem is the kittens claw/poke the inside globe when they are inside, and other reviewers have complained about urine seeping into the bottom sides and wires.
Whisker sells a cleaner which I have used to wipe the inside, but the reviews about all residue easily wiped away after waiting a few minutes hasn’t happened for us. I know it’s suggested deep cleaning the Robot every 3 months, but I think in our case, this is something that should be done monthly... and we currently have kittens. Quite frankly, it’s easier to use a traditional litter box and much easier to clean.
Life Changer
This has changed my life for the better! It's super easy to set up, my cats took to it right away and its super easy to empty! It helps me gauge how much each cat is using the litter box, which is great for my oldest. 100% worth the price as long as it lasts.

It's not worth the money.
Received the litter robot 4 today. I was super excited until... took it out of the box and noticed a little piece of plastic right on top. The top cover had a gap with the tape seal sticking out. The broken piece we found was what snaps the side in. We look up viedos how to snap in the top cover piece, found out if not properly installed it will cause issues with the sensors. the money this item cost, Whiskers should have never boxed it to be sold. We never got to even plug it up or turn it on. Thank you, Chewie, for great customer service with this issue. And giving us our money back.
