†Capacity is calculated by total volume. When using container, choose a capacity greater than what you need to prevent overfilling and spills.
How It Works: These bottles have ball-point tubes, which work on vacuum lock, not valve seal. The control ball serves as a piston and releases water out of the tube when nudged inwardly. When the bottle is filled and first inverted, you must press the control ball, and let the water trickle out until the vacuum-lock develops inside the bottle, before placing it on the cage. Be sure rubber stopper is securely pressed into the bottle neck. A few drops of water may drip until the water warms to the surrounding air temperature. This is normal.
Washing Instructions: To wash, remove bottle from cage. Remove lid and use a mild dish soap to gently clean the inside. You may find that a bottle brush (item #818426) is helpful. Please be sure to rinse bottle completely before refilling and returning the bottle to your pet's cage.
I have 3 of these bottles and hated them at first! Then I found out exactly how to prep the water bottles and absolutely love them, as do my 7 guinea pigs! Prepping: fill bottle full, make sure cap is on correctly by tipping bottle upside down while covering the spout (this cap is easy to put on incorrectly), if no water leaks then cap is on correctly. After installing in the cage, place a dish under the spout to collect the prep water, squeeze bottle while holding spout open for water flow, release the bottle while spout is opened to allow some water bubbles into the bottle, release the spout and all should be done. You can test to spout by tapping it a few times, there should just be drops I have 3 of these bottles and hated them at first! If you have this bottle and do not like it, give it another try using the prepping method. I am so glad I gave it another chance. I will not order any other bottle now. Good luck.… more

This item leaked water all over our Rabbit cage. We tried tightening the cap, several times. It just cannot be used.

This bottle is perfect. My rabbits were emptying their water bottle quickly. Now I don’t have to refill it as much.

Works for guinea pigs too

I had to fill my other water bottle for my guinea pigs at least twice a day to keep up with how much they were drinking so I decided to purchase this and it definitely lasts longer. It shows a picture of a rabbit but I use it for my guinea pigs and works good. Only thing I didn't care about was trying to hang it on the side of the cage because it's pretty heavy and the wiring is sort of hard to hook.Pleased though.
Yay - Lixit!

Really great X-Large water bottle. I love that it hangs easily and locks into place outside the cage. Plus I don't have to change their water as often now.

DO NOT BUY

I bought this water bottle because I wanted something sturdy enough for my 2 guinea pigs. I asked them if it leaked because my last one leaked. All they told me was how the spout gets water to the guinea pig.. I don’t mind a few drops but this water bottle left a puddle half the size of the habitat. It normally takes them about 3 days to empty the bottle. Well when I refilled it yesterday around 4 pm by 8 it was over half empty and the water was ALL OVER my guinea pigs eating area. I emailed about the bottle and haven’t heard anything back!!
WHATEVER - SO WHAT - WHAT EVER
