  • Great product, easy maintenance

    By on

I have two of these filters and find them to function perfectly when maintained. The impeller needs to be cleaned once or twice a month to prevent the grinding noise that other reviews note. Also, the biowheel will rotate slowly and sporadically until it is in operation for a good couple of months. It takes a while for it generate a coating of bacteria and mulm before it rotates smoothly. In the beginning, it will soak up water and appear to get stuck in one position. Just be patient and it will move. It doesn't receive 5 stars because I am not a fan of the filter cartridges. It would be nice if the carbon and filter floss were separate as there are times when the carbon needs to be removed I have two of these filters and find them to function perfectly when maintained. I modified mine for sponges. All in all a solid product. … more

  • Stopping working.

    By on

I loved this filter when I first received it. Quiet and worked great. A couple months after using it, it stopped sucking up water. I took it apart and got it running again. It stopped working again this time but this time I had no luck getting it to start back up. I'm really disappointed since I thought it was great at first. Now I'm deciding whether I want to risk spending my money on another in hopes I just had a faulty one.

  • Great HOB filter

    By on

The 350 is my favorite power filter and Chewy has it at a great price. I own 5 and prefer it to the 400. The output of the 350 is 7/8 of the 400 but it is more compact and will allow your tank to be placed closer to a wall. I have 2 of the 400s and both developed leaks around the spray arm control knob. That can't happen with the 350 design. The 400 does come with refillable cartridges (350 cartridges available at Chewy) and the pads are larger but they cost more. You can't go wrong with the Marineland 350.

I personally love this filter because I have a large flowerhorn and he poops like a grown man. He, however, does not like the part that hangs down into his space. Lol. He fights it all the time and I usually have to replace it every morning. But then again he hates his heater too...and anything else in there. I do find him resting under the waterfall frequently so I guess he likes that part. My water is extremely clean but I am also led filtering. He was in a 40 and I had this pump which is rated up to 75 gallons and also another rated up to 40. I was doing about 25% water changes ever 2-3 days depending on what I fed him and now I can go just under a week. • Thought it was great at first

I've only had this filter for a short time and it doesn't work at all anymore..... I hope I can get a replacement or a refund. I really dont feel like spending money on another filter. Especially since I litterally just put this one in.

  • too loud I do not recommend

    By on

it works but it gets obnoxiously loud and it's a real pain trying to quiet it down. you might get it to quiet down for a day or two but then it starts up its grinding again. Ive owned a few brands of HOB filters and this is hands down the worst of them because of the incessant noise. Its so bad I put an old filter back on and put this marineland filter where it belongs, in the garbage. I absolutely regret this purchase.

  • Fabulous Filter

I've used this filter for several years on my 125 gallon aquarium. Do they last forever? no. Are they trouble free? for the most part other than adjusting filters to keep wheels spinning they are well worth the low cost of the product. Do I buy parts other than a case of filters? No I do not and would not buy parts..The parts are very expensive compared to just replacing the whole unit. I use 2 of these on both ends of the six foot long tank, they keep the water and fish pristine. I replace them every 2 years whether they need it or not. I remove the working parts of the old ones and save them in case I need a part during the 2 years. • Quiet filter

This filter is good so far. Quiet. I have two in a 75 gallon and it keeps the water clean. Had two ancient penguins that did a good job but were loud.

  • Awesome HOB Filter!!!

    By on

I have this filter on my 72 gallon bow front, and it's doing an awesome job! Only draw back is that it might actually be putting too much oxidation in my tank, reason being is that I have bunches of tiny oxygen bubbles floating all through out my tank. Definitely love the Marineland brand and I would definitely recommend this product.
