Questions & Answers

17 Customer Questions

Does this filter come with everything needed to set up and start aquarium? Would it work for a 40 gallon breeder size tank that houses 4 goldfish and 2 algae eaters?
Answer by ChewySep 25, 2019
The Marineland Magniflow 220 Canister Filter comes with everything you need. It filters 200 gallons per hour and is suitable for tanks up to 55 gallons.

Is this a quiet filter? Do you hear it when in the same room?
Answer by ChewyDec 29, 2020
This filter runs quietly when setup according to the manufacturer instructions.

Any tips for quieting the waterfall? We have a turtle tank so the water does not reach the top of the aquarium and the water has to fall which makes it noisy.
Answer by ChewySep 23, 2021
You can raise the water level in the tank since turtles generally love deeper water for swimming and use a floating dock for basking. The other option is to remove the diffuser from the outlet and attach vinyl tubing to the outlet tubing. You can find this by the foot at a local DIY hardware store’s plumbing section. You will need tubing that is 5/8 inches ID.

What size hose does this model come with I need to purchase more and replace what I have it was cut too short and wouldn’t work then thrown away so not sure what size I need to get again?
Answer by ChewyAug 23, 2021
This filter includes two sections of tubing, each 6 feet long by 5/8 inches in diameter.

waste of money

I bought this for my turtle. Lenny is big now and a terrible slob, so I thought I would upgrade. It turned out to be a mistake. I followed all the instructions, but cannot get the thing to prime, no matter what I do. I am frustrated and I hate this item.

It is affordable canister

It is not the best or least perfect. I bought this for my 36 gallon tank. The accessories are cheap made, plastic

This things works quietly and efficiently. The directions are a bit difficult to follow, (only due to the flow). Make certain that all directions are followed including completely removing all the air within the system for best results.

does it’s job as advertised. no issues.

I have to imagine that the other reviews are due to user error. I also had issues priming the pump the first time, but only because I didn’t know what I was doing. One of those duh moments.

What a waste of money.

This filter is IMPOSSIBLE to get primed. I have been trying, literally, for 6 weeks. I have been resorting ot YouTube to try and get it to run. As a school teacher that keeps live animals, this was an expenditure that has not only put me in the red for the classrrom budget, but it has also stolen about 10 hours of time that I simply do not have to devote to an item that should have been simple to use. DO NOT PURCHASE.

frequent leaks

This filter is easy to set up, but we have had frequent trouble with leaks; the connection collars for the intake & outtake tubes just don't stay tight enough.

Works Perfectly

I love this filter, I have another one that has worked great since I got it a couple years ago so I decided to get another one for another aquarium,. It works perfectly just like the other one, easy to clean, very quiet and nice looking.
