Does this filter come with everything needed to set up and start aquarium? Would it work for a 40 gallon breeder size tank that houses 4 goldfish and 2 algae eaters?
Answer by ChewySep 25, 2019
The Marineland Magniflow 220 Canister Filter comes with everything you need. It filters 200 gallons per hour and is suitable for tanks up to 55 gallons.

Is this a quiet filter? Do you hear it when in the same room?
Answer by ChewyDec 29, 2020
This filter runs quietly when setup according to the manufacturer instructions.

can i run two 220s in a 75 gallon tank or should i get the next size filter
Answer by ChewyJan 15, 2020
This canister filter is not intended for tanks larger than 55-gallons. For a 75-gallon tank, it's recommended to use the "Marineland Magniflow 360 Canister Filter", or the "Marineland Bio-Wheel Penguin Aquarium Power Filter".

Will the media from a 160 fit in this?
Answer by ChewyApr 15, 2022
The media in the 160 will definitely fit in the 220.

What a waste of money.

This filter is IMPOSSIBLE to get primed. I have been trying, literally, for 6 weeks. I have been resorting ot YouTube to try and get it to run. As a school teacher that keeps live animals, this was an expenditure that has not only put me in the red for the classrrom budget, but it has also stolen about 10 hours of time that I simply do not have to devote to an item that should have been simple to use. DO NOT PURCHASE.

frequent leaks

This filter is easy to set up, but we have had frequent trouble with leaks; the connection collars for the intake & outtake tubes just don't stay tight enough.

Not much service life

I only got two summers out of mine before the motor quit.

Works Perfectly

I love this filter, I have another one that has worked great since I got it a couple years ago so I decided to get another one for another aquarium,. It works perfectly just like the other one, easy to clean, very quiet and nice looking.

I haven't had it maybe 2 weeks and it started to leak. It was a mess, I have carpet, it was soak and smelly. I will try to return it, I will keep everyone in the know.

Got back into the hobby about year ago and went with the Marineland 220 cannister just because of my past use and reliability of their products. Read all the bad reviews along with the good ones before making my decision to get my corner 45 gallon up and running. If you take your time with the set up and follow the instructions along with some common sense you will find this filter works really well. I noticed on a couple reviews mentioning the big gasket had been inadvertently left out and of course a big leak. What do you expect, right? The tubing provided for both inflow and outflow is somewhat rigid and I had to cut it to a length that worked easier for me. The big red primer pump button was really hard to push in on the first prime but with a tap or two it finally freed up and worked great. Some air in the lines was an issue but an unplug and restart cured this issue. Overall works perfectly. I'm having issues with ordering a gasket set now. Seems no one has them and I want to replace these soon.

The instructions are very unclear and vague. If this is your first time getting a external canister filter this is not for you. Took hours to set up and the hoses are EXTREMELY stiff and hard to work with. I used a blow dryer on the hoses to get them more flexible and that helped. It dose work amazingly as a filter but a lot of frustration setting up. Definitely never going back to hang on or internal filters.

Filter Upgrade

Upgraded to this filter after 1 year with the small filter that came with the aquatic turtle kit. So far so good. Had it a week now and the water is crystal clear. Unit is very quiet. Set up was a bit difficult mostly with the priming and air purging. The directions are a bit vague when it comes time to get it running. My advice is to fill the body of the filter 2/3 full with safe water. Snap on the top and then start priming with the priming button. It took me several tries to finally get it running smooth. I have noticed a small amount of foam clinging to the edges of parts and pieces in the tank. Not sure what this is or why it occurred. Time will tell if this filter makes tank maintenance easier and less frequent. Please watch videos and follow the directions it will make things easier for set up.

Don't buy this

I have always made my own canister filters. They have been great. The one draw back was having to have the pump in the tank. I decided to finally get one that had everything within the canister. This one was on sale; so I figured, sure why not? I went from having to service a filter once every few months (two turtles) to weekly. Aside from that, SOOO noisy. You go through all the steps for checking for noise, hoses not tight enough sucking in air, something got near the impeller so on and so forth. It's just noisy. maybe I got a bum device, I can say that it is my first Marineland canister filter and it is my last Marineland canister filter. Rated 55 gal, on a 40 gal tank, this thing is ... yeah just lots of frustration here. Save your money, even if it is on sale just get something else.
