what would happen if I put this in a 40 gallon tank, this is one of the most affordable filters, but its rated at almost 100 gallons, so would it make the water cloudy?
Answer by ChewyJun 23, 2020
This filter is recommended for aquariums, up to 97 gallons. The filter does not have a flow control, so the flow cannot be increased or decreased. Whether it would be best for your tank will depend on the individual tank. For example, turtle tanks typically need a strong filter while a betta tank would need a slow, gentle flow.

Would this be suitable for turtle tanks? 75 gallon tank, about half to two thirds filled
Answer by ChewyOct 24, 2019
This filter is suitable for turtle tanks. As it is fully submersible, you can locate it anywhere within the tank, as long as your water is deep enough. You would want a depth of at least 12". Customer feedback indicates it works really well for turtles, and is easy to maintain. You have the option of using a blue filter sleeve for mechanical filtration along with carbon for chemical filtration, or using the micron cartridge to polish your water and give it a crystal clear appearance. Customers typically use the carbon and filter sleeve combination for turtles as the micron cartridge may clog too rapidly in a turtle application.

Would this work in a 55 gallon turtle tank as the only filter used?
Answer by ChewyAug 11, 2020
This versatile filter allows you to pick between everyday continuous three-stage filtration or high-efficiency micron water polishing. It’s specially designed to filter aquariums that can hold up to 97 gallons and it can filter 290 gallons of water per hour.

Execellent

This polishing filter works perfectly , it makes the water sparkle, When I do a water change of course all pumps get shut down , I drain about 5 gallons of water from my tank and prime the Marineland Magnum in that bucket with diatoms earth powder after all the cloudy water is gone that means the MarineLand is primed i transfer to my 70 gal saltwater tank and let it run while I scrub the glass and move the sand around let it run for a few hours and boom sparkling water. :)

Excellent filter

This thing really works! I read in some other reviews that the filter makes way too much noise, mine did too, I took it apart and cleaned it, which we should anyways and never heard a noise out of it again

Don't do it...keep searching

Not trying to be dramatic but this thing is making us miserable! Our turtle tank is in back of the living room, next to the kitchen and master bedroom. This filter is SO LOUD that we keep the bedroom door closed constantly, especially when I WFH or I cannot concentrate or make phone calls. We also have to turn up the TV in the living room to hear over it. Then the smell is ridiculous!! I installed it less than 6 wks ago and have had to clean the tank twice since b/c of the smell. Cleaning takes over an hour that I don't have time for! You can smell it in the kitchen which is gross when cooking and smell it in the living room which makes trying to sit and enjoy some family time, challenging. I've had this turtle 7 years and never experienced anything like this. I wish I hadn't shelled out so much money for this one! Can't afford to try another one right yet. Some of the reviews said it was loud...wish I would have listened!

Amazing Filter! Powerful and effective.

I purchased this filter recently for my pet turtle in a 50gal tank. It works amazingly! The water was visibly dirty and beginning to get an odor. I thought this would be a good way to test the effectiveness of this product and you wouldn’t believe it but the water was crystal clear and odorless by the next morning! You won’t get a better filter for this price. I highly recommend for other turtle owners but it may be too powerful for fish or small amphibians.

Eat filter

It’s the airs test filter I ever had. It’s being used for my 50 gallon tank and it takes about an hour after I put it in to clear the water up! I love it

The BEST filter I’ve used

I was pretty skeptical buying this filter as some of the reviews weren’t the best but I’m so glad I did. I keep things simple with just a few goldfish in a 55 gallon tank. Every filter I bought previously NEVER kept the water this clean. I do wish the the current/ filter rate was adjusted as it’s very powerful.

Bad Wires caused filter to short out

The insulation fell off the wire and the filter shorted out.

Bare minimum

-doesn’t pull water through unless you move it around under the water -it only pulls water at the top half of the filter media so the bottom half is pointless -loud -very strong flow

Great little filter

Worked great on my 170 gallon cattle feeder pond! I know it says up to 97 gallons, but hey it works. I hadn’t been very proactive and let it get cloudy. At first I had to clean the filters after 3 hours and slowly worked up to 8 hour runs. Now the water is very clear, and the koi are happily swimming around. So if you were a inattentive pond owner, with a little patience, this works great.

Great polishing filter

I love this filter! Used it after scraping my glass, doing a water change and blowing out my sand. This thing clears the water up in only a couple hours. I would not use this for main filtration because it clogs up fast, but it’s fantastic for clearing up a major issue in a couple hours or overnight.
