Decent tank!
By Tiff on Jan 14, 2021
I ordered this tank as an upgrade from a Top Fin 3.5 gallon for my betta and some nerite snails. Overall, the tank was easy to set up as an experienced freshwater fish keeper. It does come with instructions, which is nice for anyone who buys this as a beginner tank. It should be noted that the capacity of the tank is 5 gallons, but the swimming space isn’t. The light is good enough for fake plants and critters, but I’m not sure how it would fair for live plants. I like how it has both white and blue settings. The filtration is definitely an upgrade from what I had before. The flow back into the tank is a little high for my betta, so I did modify it by adding a pre-filter sponge. The pump having adjustable flow rate is a plus as well. I have mine set on the lowest setting for my betta, and I haven’t noticed any cons as far as filtration quality. Other than the addition of a heater and a thermometer, it pretty much comes with everything you need sans decor, fish, and plants. My betta is happy with his new bachelor pad, and I’m happy with the quality. … more

DIY shrimp modification
By Erin on Jan 1, 2021
I love this tank! It's so cute and what a great price. The filter intake is big enough to suck up shrimp and small fish but I modified it with some fluval foam filter inserts and a little aquarium sealent. I just cut the pieces to size and adhered them over the intake. I think you could put the foam on the inside but I didn't care that much about the look so I put mine on the outside. Good luck!!

Not what I expected from this manufacterer
By LiLred on Dec 30, 2020
So I have had fish for years, this aquarium caught my eye as it looked like a great tank for a male betta or a few female bettas nice contour line etc. Even after reading reviews about leaks I decide they just had to be a few bad tanks out there. Ordered though Chewy as I knew they would be there if there was an issue with the tank. Thank you Chewy ! I am on tank number 3 as sure enough both first tanks leaked in same places , seams in back corners, one had a very tiny chip where the black backing have torn. Knowing aquariums I put them outside on porch with nothing in they just filed with water and placed paper towels around glass base. So very glad I did . Knowing aquariums I put them outside on porch with nothing in they just filed with water and placed paper towels around glass base. So very glad I did . I was very irritated and discouraged not with Chewy but the Manufacturer as the box Chewy put them in were not damaged either were the original boxes. Chewy was outstanding with replacements. Tank number 3 is still out on porch with water in it as some reviews also stated they spring leaks at any given time. So far ( fingers crossed it has not.) Funny thing is this Chewy box was dented in corners so I thought" here we go again". I'll post later on this one. Would I recommend this tank ? Not if you don't want to deal with leaks and take chances on getting a good one or not. Could also use some revamping to filter set up, I may take back filter off all together totally reseal it to be sure it doesn't give any surprise leaks and give more swimming space to fish as technically it is NOT a 5 gallon with that wasted filter space. If Manufacturer would take more time to correct the "issues" of this tank it would be an awesome little tank. I still do like the looks of it for the Bettas. Thank you Chewy for the Great customer service! … more

So far, so good
By George on Jan 6, 2021
I’d read the reviews about possible leaks, but also know from experience that Chewy is awesome about replacing defective items. My concerns were minimal. So far, so good. Filter pump is quiet and the speed able to be turned down so it’s not making too strong of a current. George (the rescue betta) is thoroughly enjoying the new ‘estate,’ which is far better for him than the 1gal vase that was his temporary abode after being rescued from a home (brought to me in a tupperware container!) that burned down in the fires in CA over the summer. And far better for me than cleaning/replacing water/treating water in his small abode every other day. Because it has a cover, Jake’s (the cat in photo I’d read the reviews about possible leaks, but also know from experience that Chewy is awesome about replacing defective items. Jake still hasn’t figured out that George has no eyelids and will never, ever lose. … more

Cheap; not good for planted or small fish
By fishnpups on Dec 20, 2020 Top 500 Contributor
For small fish life pygmy catfish, shrimp, etc do not get this tank. They will get sucks in the built in back and you will not be able to remove them. It will eventually cause death and therefore ammonia spikes. The light is also bad for planted tanks. If you want a better full spectrum light i recommend the finnex clip on amd a timer for it. Its pretty otherwise. But doesnt work for small fish/ shrimp at all Picture included is with finnex light before i have to switch tanks because the fish keep getting sucked back

Worst fish tank ever
By Coco on Jan 27, 2021
This thing is awful. I have owned it for about 8 months now and it’s a nightmare. The filter area is impossible to clean and it’s already malfunctioning on me. The light doesn’t sit correctly with the top on. I wouldn’t recommend this tank to anyone

LEAKS!!! and ruined my wooden desk.
By Abe12345 on Nov 29, 2020
BUYER BEWARE! . I believed I received a defected aquarium. It is leaking and the leak destroyed the surface of my wooden office desk. In the picture you will see the leak spread on a paper table cloth which I moved the aquarium on to track the leak. Please HELP! How do I return or exchange this unit? I’ve only had this aquarium up and running for 5 days and this is absolutely unacceptable. After close examination, it looks like the leak is coming from the bottom left corner of the aquarium where the glass panels are sealed together by clear rubbery glue (the glue looks like it is coming apart). PLEASE HELP! What are my options here?

This is the best tank ever!
By Robb on Dec 24, 2020
First of all chewy is amazing:) But this tank is the perfect size and looks so good. Love that the filter is built in and is super quiet. No hang on back here. The light is bright and the stand it a nice touch. Love this tank.

I love my 5 gal Marineland Portrait aquarium. I even bought a second one just in case I wanted to start up another tank.

We love it!
By Spence on Dec 27, 2020
This is a really cool small tank! We got this to start growing live corals since we can't have them in our big saltwater tank due to having fish that eat coral. Easy to set up and comes with just about everything!
