is this aquarium good for betta fish?
Answer by ChewyMar 31, 2020
This 5 gallon aquarium would be appropriate for a wide variety of fish including Betta Fish, Honey Gourami, various Micro Rasboras, Dwarf Puffer, Dwarf Frog, Clown Killifish, Least Killifish, Dwarf Crayfish, Rosy Loach, Cherry Red Shrimp and Ghost Shrimp.

can a hamster use it
Answer by ChewyMay 23, 2020
This aquarium kit is not designed for hamsters.

Could a small aquatic turtle use this?
Answer by ChewyAug 19, 2020
Turtles need a minimum of 10 gallons of water per inch of shell diameter so even a hatchling turtle the size of a fifty cent piece requires a minimum of 20 gallons. This kit is too small and will not allow a basking light or UVB light, both of which they need.

What are the dimensions of this fish tank? I need to know to buy decorations and plants! Thank you.
Answer by ChewyJun 03, 2020
The tank itself measures approximately 9.6 inches long x 9.6 inches wide x 17.2 inches tall (with light fully extended). Without the light, the height is approximately 11.5 inches.

My Betta loves this new Aquarium

We felt our betta fish “Velvet” was bored of his 1.5 tank as he has been not as active and researched some bigger tanks that could fit on a small surface. We ordered this from Chewy and although he dealt with initial shock of being placed in the new tank, once he overcame that he seems so happy. He swims a lot and loves to star at his reflection at the back part of the tank. But he is very much active and even starting to eat better again. Regarding the tank itself, it’s easy to setup but a little on the heavier side to manage and clean due to the weight of the glass. But I surely prefer the glass over plastic.

Good tank, not perfect

I've had this tank for a few years now. The only thing that broke was a little plastic piece that connects the filter so its pretty loud as the water is splashing back into the back part of the tank and not into the tank itself. The Marineland company was super nice but unfortunately the parts been out for close to 6 months now. Its super hard to clean the back tank, even for me with small hands and if you drop a piece back there, good luck! It also seems to loose water quickly, evaporation I'm sure. I just don't have this much of a problem with my other tanks. I bought a heater and stuck it in the back tank so it doesn't take up space in the main. Water is pretty strong but my bettas and other fish throughout the years live through it. Havent had a problem with fish getting stuck to the filter area. Still a lovely tank that I would recommend, especially for the price!

Only 2 complaints

Tank looks good don't leak but the pump makes noise when you turn it down so you have to run it wide open. So i bought a different pump and it works fine and no grinding noise. Now the other thing was the plastic top don't fit its to short to hang on tank so I made a plastic clear one to cover the back. Other than that it's a nice looking tank. The light works nice with a dimmer.

Great with a few Mods

I did tons of research for a planted betta tank and this aquarium has out competed any other aquarium. There are some down falls that can be fixed. The light grew Anubis nan petite and micro sword but the growth was slow. The output was far too fast for a beta but there are plenty of videos on how to attach foam to the output and poking holes in the tubing. The input and skimmer damaged my fishes fins but I had it running at 3/4 power. The largest problem I have found with this tank is the pump in the back uses two ninety degree elbows to connect with the output. They do not fit overly tight and I have had two blow offs. I had to super glue them to keep it from happening. If the first ninety comes off it will shoot water out of the aquarium.

Questionable pump and customer service

I saw many positive reviews around the Web on this aquarium and plan to use it as a nano tank on my desk. After setting it up and filling with water, I fired up the pump and was greeted with a loud buzzing noise. I checked the tubing and impeller in the pump and all looked fine--still buzzed like a mini chainsaw. I called customer service, and they agreed to send me a new pump under warranty. Just received it about a week later in a minimally padded soft envelope, inside of which is the new pump in an unprotected and smashed box. Not sure how they expected it to arrive undamaged, and I will be surprised if the pump works at all. The aquarium looks great (although as others have noted, your fish are only getting <4 gallons due to the large filter compartment in the back), but the quality control on the pump is poor, and the customer service apparently is not much better. Order if you're feeling lucky; otherwise, look elsewhere for another tank with a better pump.

Nice nano aquarium

The aquarium is nice, glass with plastic back where the filter is housed, flow is adjustable. Glass lid slides back to feed fish. Very disappointed with the light, after 3 weeks it started to blink when I turned on the white light, blue works fine. I purchased a small led light to put on top of the lid to fix the white light Have very small ember tetra and dwarf Cory cat Fish and have not had a problem with fish in the filter area as another reviewer wrote. When unboxing I let the tank come to room temperature before adding water. No leaks as another reviewer wrote. Love the idea it is glass ,not cheap plastic that scratches. I would recommend this tank. I am considering purchasing another one.

Great starter tank

Recently upgraded from an Aqueon mini bow to this tank and very happy I did. Very sleek, lots of space for plants and large decor, and pump is very quiet. Flow adjustments on filter makes it a good fit for bettas. I upgraded the light to a plant light and did a few modifications to the filter tube so the back compartment got some surface water movement.

Not as good as I had hoped for

I did not find a way of controlling the intake of the filter. It was too strong for my betta, I only needed the tank for 2 weeks as it is a "vacation" home for betta. The cover fit weird as well, it is very heavy glass and didn't "slide" well.

Awesome nano aquarium!

I bought this 5-gallon tank from Chewy after doing tons of online research and watching a gazillion YouTube video reviews. It has totally lived up to my expectations! It arrived safe and sound with no defects. I've had it up and running for more than a month and so far, so good! Thanks Chewy! :-)
