I have a 8 month sulcata and feed him this but I'm wondering how big the pieces are, cause he's gotta tiny mouth, what the benefits of the low starch version is and if this has enough calcium to replace giving him a calcium bone.
Answer by ChewyMay 18, 2020
Mazuri Tortoise LS diet is the recommendation for Sulcatas. It comes in two sizes. Mazuri Small Tortoise LS is 3/32 inches in diameter by 1/8 inches long. Mazuri Tortoise LS diet is 1/4" inches in diameter by 1/2 inches long. It contains 100% of the nutrients need per day and will not require a calcium bone. For tortoises the Tortoise LS diet is recommended. The Tortoise LS diet is a Timothy grass based diet that is low in starch, higher in fiber, lower protein, contains probiotics, and works great for tortoises. The LS diet mimics their natural environment in the wild.

Tortuga wants better flavor

This is a good tortoise food, but my sulcata wishes it tasted like the original mazuri pellets. He's not a fan of timothy hay and that's healthy but not delicious. If yours doesn't like it either wet it and mix it with some of the original and mash them together and make new tasty mixture.I like all mazuri products, just have to be creative with this one if you have a sulcata. I buy the largest bag of both of them and continue to feed it,my Tortuga dozer is 3yrs and weighs 45lbs so this food by mazuri is what the zoos feed and my Tortuga is proof of a healthy tortoise if fed mazuri food.

They like it!!!

I have a dozen or so very healthy Greek tortoises. They love the old tortoise diet formula and was a bit surprised to see they like this one as well. For now I add about 25% of the old formula to the new. They live outside 24/7 and have access to lots of weeds for a varied diet. I have used Mazuri tortoise diet original formula for many years and personally think it’s a better option than store bought greens.

I think I got the wrong stuff shipped to me

This is not what I ordered. I ordered a 25 pound bag but it has no tortoise on the bag and it does not say LS on it. My tortoise eats the Mazuri LS in the small bag, but it will not eat the stuff you sent. I have been buying the small bags and the tortoise eat that’s fine but whatever in this big bag they won’t eat.

Probably my mistake, but I never know how to order to get the large Mazuri pellets for my big guy that won't eat this small rabbit food size pellet.

My tortoise loves it

I rescued a sulcata tortoise and alot of the food they have are for the smaller tortoise. Small bags that last the tortoise a few days. This is so good. A big bag and small pieces that the tortoise won't choke on. Its really good. My tortoise loves it. A good way to get her away from eating only romaine.

FOR GRASS EATING TORTOISE

I WAS JUST ABOUT TO BUY THE TORTOISE FOOD AND THAN I SAW THIS ONE FOR GRASS EATERS WHICH IS DESERT AND SULCATA ETC. I KNOW SO MANY PEOPLE ARE USING THE OTHER ONE THAT IS NOT FOR NEVADA DESERT TORTOISES AND THAT OTHER BAG SHOULD BE A BIG WARNING... ALL TORTOISES DO NOT EAT THE SAME THING,

My Sulcata Loves it!!!

Graduated to the big bag and she’s so excited! So is my wallet! Basic info … Sgt Peppers LHCB is 5 1/2 years old. I have had her since she was I think three weeks to a month old. We live in Missouri, so she is indoors and outdoors. She has been doubling her size each year for the last 2 years. She has always ate Mazuri LS. She currently eats about 2 1/2 to 3 pounds per month of the pellets. She also has access to fresh Timothy hay. (The scarring on the shell is from a dog attack at 2 years.) If you need to have a little help to get yours to eat and the pellets, try soaking them in a little bit of water, you can even soak their favorite fruit in the water to give a little flavor. When I first introduced pellets and Timothy hay to my tortoise, she did not like it. She is spoiled with her dark greens, and occasional veggies and treats. It took me a few months of tying different ways to get her to eat them. Now she gets mad if there’s not a whole bowl full in her enclosure at all times.

Mazuri Tortoise Diet LS

My Russian Tortoise,so far, will not eat this. I am disappointed,as I thought it would supplement his fresh food. I will keep trying, as it has only been on and off again for about 2 weeks. Some online reviews are favorable, so maybe.......
