I have a 8 month sulcata and feed him this but I'm wondering how big the pieces are, cause he's gotta tiny mouth, what the benefits of the low starch version is and if this has enough calcium to replace giving him a calcium bone.
Answer by ChewyMay 18, 2020
Mazuri Tortoise LS diet is the recommendation for Sulcatas. It comes in two sizes. Mazuri Small Tortoise LS is 3/32 inches in diameter by 1/8 inches long. Mazuri Tortoise LS diet is 1/4" inches in diameter by 1/2 inches long. It contains 100% of the nutrients need per day and will not require a calcium bone. For tortoises the Tortoise LS diet is recommended. The Tortoise LS diet is a Timothy grass based diet that is low in starch, higher in fiber, lower protein, contains probiotics, and works great for tortoises. The LS diet mimics their natural environment in the wild.

My Sulcata Loves it!!!

Graduated to the big bag and she’s so excited! So is my wallet! Basic info … Sgt Peppers LHCB is 5 1/2 years old. I have had her since she was I think three weeks to a month old. We live in Missouri, so she is indoors and outdoors. She has been doubling her size each year for the last 2 years. She has always ate Mazuri LS. She currently eats about 2 1/2 to 3 pounds per month of the pellets. She also has access to fresh Timothy hay. (The scarring on the shell is from a dog attack at 2 years.) If you need to have a little help to get yours to eat and the pellets, try soaking them in a little bit of water, you can even soak their favorite fruit in the water to give a little flavor. When I first introduced pellets and Timothy hay to my tortoise, she did not like it. She is spoiled with her dark greens, and occasional veggies and treats. It took me a few months of tying different ways to get her to eat them. Now she gets mad if there’s not a whole bowl full in her enclosure at all times.

Mazuri Tortoise Diet LS

My Russian Tortoise,so far, will not eat this. I am disappointed,as I thought it would supplement his fresh food. I will keep trying, as it has only been on and off again for about 2 weeks. Some online reviews are favorable, so maybe.......

sulcata loves it

My dad’s sulcata tortoise loves this food. We switched from ZooMed after their prices kept increasing. Mazuri is much more cost effective and my dad’s tortoise seems to like it more too.

Excellent products, excellent service!

I bought a bag of what I THOUGHT was tortoise food and it was turtle food, there is a difference and it's important. I wrote a review saying I made a mistake but that you needed to be careful with the descriptions. Chewy responded immediately (that wasn't the point of my review, the mistake was mine.) and replaced the food with what I really needed! The food, regardless if it is Tortoise food (my Clyde, a desert Sulcata, LOVES this brand!) chicken feed, pig food or dog and cat food seems always fresh. I buy toys, treats, supplement and medication through Chewy. I use auto ship because it saves me a little money and it comes right to the door. The boxes are great for moving too.

Mojave desert tortoise approved!

My eight-year-old tortoise was introduced to this pellet for the first time, and he seems to really like it- permitted I put a little water on it first to soften it up. I give him small amounts and he gobbles them up. I feel good about supplementing his diet with these pellets since it is hard to know if I am giving him enough nutrition through all his other foods. It is a bit pricey for what you get, but it works for me since my guy is small.

My tortoises love it!

My desert tortoises love these as a free fed snack! I'm constantly having to refill the bowl for them.

Leopard Tortoise

After working diligently to get my leopard tortoise to eat a more healthy and varied diet I have finally been able to get her to eat the Mazuri diet. I started by chopping up her regular veggie green and mixing them in with soaked Mazuri diet. She didn't miss a meal. This is a great diet that offers a balanced daily nutrition.

Waste of money

My tortoise tried but will not eat it. It just sat there and attracted fruit flies.

Get small bag first

Bought this 25 lb bag for my tortoises. I have 5 sulcatas, 4 leapords, 2 redfoots, and 3 russian tortoises, all from a wide variety of age ranges. NONE of them will touch this stuff. I've tried soaking it, grinding it, mixing with their regular diet, tried not feeding them for a day to see if they will get hungry enough to eat it.. nope. They ain't gonna touch it. I'm left with a very expensive bag of chicken feed. Try a small portion before you purchase a big bag... The chewy website was great though. Easy and very fast delivery.
