The carbohydrate content in the Meat Mates diets is less than 1%. Meat Mates does not add any carbohydrates to their diets and given that they consist of such high quantities of meat, the very small amount of carbohydrates present is naturally occurring. Meat Mates does not currently test for carbohydrates.

My first and last time ordering this

This food is super expensive but I am going through feed trials for my IBS kitty so we gave this a try. When the cans are opened (which is very hard to do) the food looks rancid and largely liquid. My cat wouldn’t even sniff the can. I tried feeding just a small scoop next to his normal food and he wouldn’t go anywhere near the normal food either since this was so offensive to him. He’s not usually picky. I’m disappointed that this was so expensive and my cat won’t touch it. This brand and protein source are being removed from our list.

3oz cans hard to open

My cat is going through food trials in order to find out what she is allergic to. People may blame a protein when the allergen could be an additive. Try the same protein, but by a different company with less/different additives. My girl is not reacting to this lamb. We still have another two months on this trial. Her scratching and over grooming is greatly reduced. The 3oz cans are extremely hard to open. My mother cannot open the can at all even trying a spoon and dull knife. The lid metal even feels thicker. I will order the larger size when it comes in stock hoping that it will be easier to open.

Quality for a Price

My cat's love this...unfortunately. It's so expensive. According to feeding guidelines I need to feed my cat 2.5 cans a day. Works out to be $5 a day. For a multiple cat household, this adds up. But my cats are 18 and it's getting difficult to find a food that is grain-free without poultry. It actually smells pretty fishy to me, I believe from the fish oil? As other reviews have mentioned, there is a lot of liquid in the can. I'd prefer to add the water myself, but the liquid mixes with the pate and it comes out to the right consistency. This is lower in phosphorus than the other canned lamb I was feeding, so this will be their main food. Hoping they get in the larger cans soon which will bring the cost down.

Current Favorite

My cat is sensitive to chicken and doesn't like fish enough to eat it regularly, so I'm always looking for new lamb-, rabbit-, and duck-based foods to try. He is very enthusiastic about this food, even more than the Ziwipeak lamb that I get him occasionally.

Cats will not eat it.

Not one of my 7 cats will eat this food. Two of the seven, my little hoovers, will usually eat just about anything that’s placed in front of them. But not this. In addition, be aware that although the quality, ingredients (other than the fish oil and kelp which are known allergens), and lack of fillers in this product appear to make for an ideal food, when you open the cans the contents are a third to one half liquid. This is irritating and untenable at this price point. With the routine inability to find or access the foods my cats need I was really hoping this food would be a viable replacement. It’s not.

Cats love it!

One of my cats needs a single unique protein for medical reasons. I tried another brand of lamb, and she picked at it. She did a tad better with rabbit, but then everyone ran out of rabbit at the same time. This food happened to be the only viable option, so I ordered it. And she loves it! So does my other cat, who follows her diet for my sanity! I understand what some have said about water, but that seems to be a lot of why this is more palatable. I just hope they keep making this and it remains accessible.

Clean bowl!!

I changed my cat's diet from dry food to wet food for the last 6 months or so, and now my cat eats most of wet food even though she still likes dried food better. However, with this can, she didn't wait half an hour to see if I soften up and give her dried food, instead she cleaned the whole bowl in a few minutes!! I am so happy that this is healthy and that my cat actually likes it. I especially like that there are organs included in the ingredients, not just the meat part.

cat likes it but very watery

This is the first time I bought this. It has a lot of liquid in it. I felt like I had to give my cat a 6 oz can when usually I've given her 3 oz cans at dinner. I think I had filtered for pâtés, but this is no paté
