I purchased a size Small (Blue) in the Basic bootie for my 50lb Golden and it's a good fit over his bandaged foot (rear leg). There is room to spare in the boot which i like but it's not swimming on him. He has a broken toe and his foot is currently wrapped and we were in need of something to keep it dry. I may still use the iv bag we have been using when it's really wet out but this goes on a bit easier and stays put a bit better. The only issue we have the the velcro strap on the top hits him right at the hock and that's less than ideal to keep the boot on. I wish the boot went up another inch or two even. It is probably less of an issue on a front leg. I'm not cinching the bottom velcro as i'm worried it may push on the toe. We have only had and used this for a couple days so i cannot speak to durability but it looks well made and is helpful for what we needed.
Our 95 lb Weimaraner had a large tumor removed from his arm. He had many stitches and a bandage from his paw to under his armpit. We used the boot in the snow and rain to keep the bandage dry. It worked great even in 8 inches of snow! It stays in place with the 2 Velcro tabs and drawstring at the top which helps from him getting at his wound. Also the boot is definitely loose enough for a large bandage or wound site and won’t rub.
My Dog had surgery to remove an interdigital cyst that didn't respond to a course of antibiotics. She had a dressing on her paw for approximately 3 weeks that was changed weekly and that could not get wet. This boot not only kept her foot dry but protected the dressing and her tender paw whenever she went outside. The only thing is, that I didn't listen to the size recommendation. I purchased a medium that was too big for my 100 pound furbaby, but we made it work. I should have purchased a small, which is what the size chart recommended. So, I would have to say that if you go with the recommendation on the size chart, including any dressing that may alter the size of your dog's paw, that the size recommendation is true to size. I definately recommend this protective boot if you need to keep yor dog's paw and dressing dry!!!!
Great boot but the sizing is wacko. The medium I ordered for my Aussie(that is a medium in everything else) is gigantic. The paw pad is big enough for a great Dane. The fasteners and waterproof of the boot are terrific and great for protecting a leg wound.
I ordered a size small of the basic style. I use it for walking to keep his bandage dry in the snow/rain. Depending on the length of the walk and activity level it stays on well. It has a nice sturdy durable non skid bottom so he has some grip. Just make sure to choose the right size!
We ordered these because our dog broke both of her front legs and was in splints that needed to be protected from the snow. They looked great. Sadly, our dog died before we got a chance to use them.
For other booties I have purchased my dog was a size XL to fit his big paws. This XL protective boot would fit a baby elephant! Be sure to use the size guide provided to get the proper fit
So I puchased 2 of them at different times, both very different, one has a softer waterproof base and one has a hard bottom boot / shoe base.. I recommend the softer waterproof base, not sure how to tell which one you are getting, but worth the purchase has been great..
The boot kept turning, where the base portion would be on top of paw.
Purchased this boot in size small for my Jack Russell a few years ago from the vet to cover her splint for an ankle fracture. Now using the same boot for my Beagle-Dachshund mix with cancer in the foot bone to cover his splint. This product is not waterproof as we found out on a wet morning on the way to the vet for a bandage change. Pulled the boot off at the vet's office to my surprise to find a wet bandage underneath. This boot has held up great through 2 dogs using it, and it offers great traction for improved mobility, but do not believe the claim of being waterproof. Now using an IV fluid bag from the vet for a waterproof bandage cover.
