Purina Changed the Formula, Color and Taste (Per my Dog Candy)
By Candy on Feb 4, 2021
I tried so many recommended canned dog foods for my Havanese Candy to go with her kibbles. Finally found a high rated Merrick Cowboy Cookout that she Loved!!!! My Vet approved too so I was so glad. Then I ordered my usual case from Chewy and was confused when I opened the can and saw the different color (from lighter Carmel to a new brown color) It looks, smells, different and according to Candy tastes different BAD too.. I am a retired Sr QC Inspection Auditor for a large health food international company. A change like this without a distinctly new Label stating "NEW FORMULA" for humans would have the FDA all over them. I am sad for Candy. I cant explain to her what's going on with her food I tried so many recommended canned dog foods for my Havanese Candy to go with her kibbles. I have to start trying different ones other than the 8 or 9 I already tried before finding Cowboy Cookout. Wish there was a petition we could submit to Purina to bring back the original Formula... Upset in OC CA … more

Weird color, disappointed pups
By Kiki on Feb 4, 2021
My two dogs, a teacup chi mix and small pom mix, have loved every other Merrick canned food they've tried (Kansas BBQ, Venison Stew, Brauts n Tots) but this... I should've paid more attention to the reviews. The other of the food in my cans was a sad grey-brown, as many others have mentioned, and my dogs were largely uninterested. Looking more into reviews of other Merrick canned food, it seems that off batches aren't that uncommon... which, at this price point, means we're probably going to shift to another brand. Big bummer.

soup anyone?
By poodle on Feb 6, 2021
This Cowboy Cookout is more soup than beef. My poodle did not like it even after pouring out all the gravy. There was 1/4 beef and 3/4 gravy/soup. She also didn't like the beef which was big chunks and mushy. More like chunks of pate like food.

Formula Change In July
By DogMomofMany on Dec 18, 2020
I have fed Merrick wet dog food to multiple dogs over the years. Suddenly after July of this year The food (all kinds) now appear greenish- grey color and my dogs refuse to eat it. These cans are identified with a 7 digit number/letter code after the ingredients. I called Merrick customer service who advised of the change in formula since Purina acquired Merrick and assured it is safe to eat. I have changed to a different brand of dog food.

Dog delicious
By Chow on Jan 4, 2021
My Dog loved this then after a while just liked it, it seemed. she gets kinda spoiled I mix this with her dry food. I would give it 5 stars but even through Chewy, it is a bit expensive at around 3 bucks a can. honestly, it's cheaper to mix regular beef stew in the food than use Merrick's dog food.

Cowboy Cookout
By Yorkiemom315 on Jan 22, 2021
This is another one I thought my four would really like but that didn’t happen. Oliver and two others took a bite then left the kitchen. I think it is a great dog food but I cannot convince my babies.

One can was empty.
By Buddy on Feb 23, 2021
My dog loves the dog food. Just wish all cans were full. One can was empty, due to a cut in the seal, around the top.

Cowboy Cookout doesn't look right
By RudyDog on Jan 6, 2021
We got a case of Cowboy Cookout that had very few chunks of food and was dark gray in color. Rudy didn't like it can after can. We must have got the bottom of the barrel for this batch.

I thought it looked good, He didn't
By Chris on Feb 11, 2021
My dog does not like this food. He will only eat if there is no other option. It's sad cause I thought it looked good.
