Merrick Dog Food
Well I'm not sure why this dog food is so over priced, just my opinion. I won't buy it again, I'm sure it is good but so are a whole bunch of other brands
Loves it but HUGE POOPS
My dog loves the flavor of this food and ate it all in one go so I had to give it to her in smaller portions throughout the day to make sure she doesn't binge it too quickly. However, one thing I've noticed for this food is that it gives my dog HUGE poops and I have to be careful to not couple it with wet food or she will have diarrhea from the richness.
Finally a food for small senior dogs!
Every other brand of dry senior dog food I’ve tried contained large kibble pieces and was not designed for small breeds. So happy to find this one so I can phase out the other brand. The difference in the sizes of the kibble is very apparent!
First time
This is the first time I tried this product. My senior dogs enjoyed the food. It was easy for them to chew.
loved the food but---
When I couldn't get my usual food, I decided to try this one. The 2 dogs ate it ok but then they both developed bowel issues. The older one really had a hard time. I know this can happen with any food but for both dogs to have same issue, I'd be super careful.
Superfood for seniors
Thanks Chewy for working so hard to get this back in stock. Great nutrition for seniors & she likes it! Truth be known, she's spoiled & I cook for her but this added sneaks in nutrition. Other brands, she shoves with her nose till it's scattered (she thinks into oblivion I'm sure)
Weird smell
I got this food when my Morky's regular food was unavailable. She is a very picky eater and turns her nose up at most foods other dogs will readily eat. When I first opened the bag I noticed a strange smell which I can not really describe but, the kibble was small so, I thought I would try it. She won't touch it!!! I tried mixing it with some of her old food which I still had left. She ate her regular food and left the Merrick food outside her bowl.
Packaging is flawed
My dog has allergies and this food has been a great alternative to the $100 prescription bag we used to buy. However, today I received yet another bag that had a faulty closure on the bag. Typically it has a velcro-like closing which is great to keep the bag closed and the food fresh. My dog is small so it takes about 6 weeks to get through the bag and if I can't close it, by the end it is stale or that mushy consistency from the humidity. Once or twice I could handle but now it's more and more. Not happy at all with that flaw
More for tiny dogs not small dogs
I have two small chihuahua mixes 14lbs and 18lbs. They’ve been on regular Merrick dry and wet but they’re getting older and having some minor health issues, so we’ve been switching over to senior dry food and lil plates for wet food (dry/wet mix). I think I ordered this by mistake. The pieces are really small compared to the regular senior dry. They ate it but they were looking for bigger pieces and even gave us a look. Great for teeny pups, but mine not so much. Love Merrick and all of their products.
My dog loves this!!
My just turned 8 years old today, loves this small kibble dog food. He is pretty picky, I usually have to put a little strands of chicken mixed in, but he can’t handle to much protein these days as it gives him very soft Pooh. He’s better off with just dry food, but I haven’t found one he really likes till this very high quality (I would have given it 5 stars but its also rather expensive compared to the Nutro Ultra weight management I was feeding.) I’m still transitioning from the Nutro, he’s at 2/3drs Merrill to the 1/2 Nutro, but he eats it without chicken because he likes the Merrick. Since he is a little bow legged as he gets older, I am worried about his joints and Merrick includes some excellent ingredients for joint health as well as glucosamine. I only wish it was not so expensive .
