Using the chart below, divide the total cups per day by the total number of times you feed your dog per day to determine the portion size for each meal. Keep a clean bowl of fresh water available at all times. Every dog is a little different, so optimal feeding amounts may vary with age, size and activity level. Please use the information below as an initial recommendation only and adjust when needed. Dry and wet food in combination will help to increase the level of water in your dog's diet. If feeding with wet food, reduce dry amount by 1/2 cup for every 6 oz. of wet food.

The Limited Ingredient Diet That's More Limited
When you have a sensitive pup, finding the right food can be tricky. That's why Merrick made a limited ingredient diet with the fewest possible ingredients—less than other natural L.I.D foods on the market. Each meal is free of grains, corn, soy, dairy and eggs, plus made with a single-source animal protein. It's the nutrition you'd expect from Merrick, but with carefully selected ingredients.
8 Key Ingredients
In each bowl of Merrick Limited Ingredient Diet, your best bud will get the nutrition she needs from the most essential ingredients—eight of them, to be specific. Every recipe is made with only eight key ingredients, plus vitamins and minerals, to give your dog the optimal nutrition she deserves while avoiding common allergens.

Single Protein, Optimal Nutrition
Merrick Limited Ingredient Diet formulas keep it naturally simple with a single source of deboned animal protein—so every meal is easier to digest. Choose between savory recipes like salmon, turkey, lamb, chicken or duck. And when Merrick says lamb, they mean lamb—so you can avoid the proteins that upset your pup's tummy. It's more of what your pet needs and less of what they don’t.
Grain Free and Potato Free for Sensitive Pets
Merrick sticks to what's important and leaves out those unnecessary ingredients many dogs are sensitive to—like grains, potatoes, corn, soy, dairy and eggs. Instead, they pack their recipes with meaningful carbohydrates that support healthy digestion, plus a range of important vitamins, minerals and fatty acids needed to support the overall well-being of your best friend.

The Makings of a Meal Fit for Your Best Friend
Lentils: An excellent source of protein, zinc, iron and fiber—plus, they offer additional protein for healthy lean muscle.
Peas: Contains twice the protein of most vegetables, and is a good source of vitamins A, C and some B-complex vitamins.
Organic Alfalfa: Rich source of calcium and serves as a good source of fiber, vitamins and carotene.
Yucca Schidigera Extract: Supplies good quantities of iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, selenium and silicon, and is thought to reduce stool and urine odors.
About Merrick
Merrick believes whole foods not only taste better, but are better for your pet, and handmade recipes are much better than scientific formulas. That's why Merrick's been making pet food in their own kitchen for more than 25 years. Produced in small batches, each recipe is closely monitored to ensure it delivers the perfect balance of nutrients guaranteed right on the label. Merrick makes food to be fuel, not filler, and their wide variety of protein-rich dry and canned foods and treats means your pet will enjoy every second of his meal.

Merrick Changed to Inferior formula
By KTru on Jan 14, 2019
I'm very disappointed in Merrick for changing the recipe so that it has no sweet potatoes, and legumes instead. No doubt this is due to the glut of chickpeas that U.S. farmers have. They are cheap. I notice the price of the food didn't decline. Very unhappy as I had finally found a food my dog could eat.

Clumpy food
By Dogfood on Jan 7, 2019
I have never really had any issues with any of my orders. However the last order that came in for my Dogs food came with these huge clumps of food in it. There are 2 large clumps and some smaller ones.... definitely disappointed

Great Food Until They Changed The Recipe
By Erica on Nov 3, 2018
My French bulldog is allergic to everything. Fish, chicken, turkey, oatmeal, flaxseed, kelp and more we found merrick duck recipe online and have been using it for almost 2 years until today when my chewy order came it wasn't the same formula as before and the bag was different then I looked at ingredients. That too changed and now has flaxseed in it. My dog can no longer eat this. were so bummed. I did see the nutro limited ingredients duck might be our switch for future ... there may be hope for you too.

Merrick changed recipe
By GSDmom on Sep 13, 2018
My two GSD's loved the old LID recipe of Duck and Sweet Potato. I loved they stopped having skin issues! The last two bags I ordered they wouldn't eat and when I looked at bags saw the recipe had changed. It no longer had sweet potato and instead had chickpeas and lentils and quite a few different ingredient changes. Going to try the Chewy LID Duck and Sweet Potato next order and hope they do well with it.

Changed the formula. Disappointing.
By DeeW on Oct 1, 2018
Changed the formula and after years of the duck and sweet potato that my two pups loved, neither will touch the new chickpea recipe. Disappointed that a company who makes food for dogs with food sensitivities would change its formula like this.

Great For Dog Allergies
By Katrina101 on Aug 1, 2018
My dog is literally allergic to everything! We have tried so many different brands and recipes! He's very picky and along with his allergies, it's very hard to find food that will actually benefit him. I tried this for a week and all of the skin irritation from allergies had gone away and he goes to eat it right away and finished it all! He loves this duck recipe and is definitely worth the money! It's great for dogs who have allergies and highly recommend this limited ingredient recipe as it really benefits the dogs!

Worth Every Penny
By Cait on Jul 24, 2018
My dog used to have terrible skin allergies. But we switched her to the Limited Ingredient food and her allergies have completely gone away! We used to use Whole Earth Farms, but she stopped eating it after they changed their recipe. Couldn't get her to eat at all. So we switched to Merrick. We will forever buy this dog food!

Liked The Old Formula
By HLC2 on Sep 14, 2018
This new formula with chickpeas has given my dogs gas and they don't seem to like it as much. I will be switching to another Merrick food to see how they like it.
