I wrote a long review and the website ate it. I will try again. THIS FOOD CONTAINS FOUR DIFFERENT KINDS OF GUM. The ingredients on the can in the Chewy photo DO NOT MATCH the ingredients listed on the can I am holding in my hand. The description above says to read the Nutrition information to see the full list of ingredients. The full list of ingredients SHOULD BE LISTED ON THE CAN !!! The ingredients listed in the Nutrition section DO NOT MATCH those listed on the can in the Chewy photo. And, The ingredients listed in the Nutrition section DO NOT MATCH those listed on the can I am holding in my hand. None of these 3 different sets of ingredients lists, match each other. The can I am holding says: Ingredients: deboned chicken, chicken broth, chicken liver, natural flavor, dried egg product, dried cranberries, calcium carbonate, organic dehydrated alfalfa meal, sodium phosphate, GUAR GUM, potassium chloride, salt, choline chloride, salmon oil, AGAR-AGAR, ground flaxseed, LOCUST BEAN GUM, XANTHAN GUM, taurine, ... and then a whole bunch of vitamins. I see other complaints that the fornula line has changed. I am not holding an old can. The expiration date on the bottom of this can says "BEST BY JUN 2024", and I bought this food either late June or early July. Someone else mentioned there can has a white interior, this can has a silver interior. I will try to add photos. I had to rotate the can and take three different photos to capture the full list of ingredients. I have highlighted the gums in red.
My cat has been eating Merrick wet food for years. Recently the food looked different but my cat ate it anyway so I didn’t think it would be an issue since I trusted the brand. However my cat is extremely allergic to this new recipe and started to itch to the point of bleeding. Switched to a different brand and the itching stopped. I never write reviews but feel other pet owners should be alerted to possible allergies from this food since Merrick isn’t transparent about the formula change
As many others have said, the chicken pate has changed. This changed occurred when Merrick changed the can from metal to one that is lighter weight and white on the inside. I buy by the case and a few of the new cans arrive dented in every order. I get chicken (which used to be my cats favorite by far), rabbit (which also comes in the new cans), turkey, and duck, which still come in the metal cans and have juice in them. My 3 Siamese no longer prefer the chicken, but they will eat it. The turkey and duck have become their favorites.
both my cats were raised on Merrick canned food from kitten to adult for the last 4 years. About 6 months ago they stopped eating the smaller size can but continued eating the larger cans until Merrick went with these recyclable aluminum cans. Even I noticed the difference in color and smell. They both went from eating something they love to being hungry and yet walking away from it. I reached out to Merrill, I did get 1 response in an email, they asked for my phone number to discuss further which I sent along with a note saying I would be happy to discuss and then nothing. There's been no further response from customer care since. It took my awhile and a lot of money but I finally found wet food that they both thoroughly enjoy again! They are eating Royal Canin Adult Instinctive
My cat hates this after the recent recipe change--he'd rather starve all day before giving in and eating some of this. It smells different, looks different, and has little to none of the gravy-like liquid that we were accustomed to in the can. The switch to menhaden oil from salmon oil is a nutritional downgrade, and the ground flaxseed was removed. This was one of the reasons that I recommended this wet cat food in my groups for cats with intestinal and motility issues. I've been feeding my pets Merrick for a decade, and I'm extremely disappointed.
The cats now will not eat the Merrick canned foods. Merrick changed the recipe and the cats do not like the new version. We're working on finding something that works for them.
My cats been eating this for over a year. The last month they hated it. One of my cats even lost weight. And they are all constipated. Also I had noticed the last few orders that the look of the food had changed. The chicken was jelly. The turkey was lumpy. Also it stunk! Merrick must be trying to cut corners and added junk into the food. I got a refund for the last three cases I ordered. A high priced food, for a low quality food! Cats are smart, you can’t trick them ,Merrick! So the hunt starts for a new food.
Not the same formula, it has changed I called merrick and they denied it but my cats won’t touch it and also one has thrown up whe. He did eat it , and the smell is horrible the chicken smells like fish it’s awful! One of my cats went to vet because he had blood in stool I think it’s from the food. Don’t have it since changing they have been eating this food for 2 years ! I changed to the limited ingredient chicken seems better and they are eating this one
We've been feeding our cats this food for years now, one of whom has IBS. After we got a new order end of June, we noticed the cat with IBS vomiting profusely in the afternoon, and quickly switched her back to some of the leftover old cans. The vomiting stopped. The other cat, who doesn't have any issues, started itching herself to the point of bleeding, and we also switched her back to the old food. We think she was having an allergic reaction to whatever was in the new formula. We put them on Nutri Source Pure Vita chicken entree to find something similar to the old Merrick and it seems to work. So disappointing for the company to change the formula. And the price doubled in the last few years to boot.
My cat enjoyed this food over the past year until the consistency of it changed a few months ago. It used to be soft with lots of gravy juices. Now the pate is hard and dry, and has zero gravy juices. I have had to return many cases because my cat no longer likes it. I don’t know why Merrick changed the formula on this — but it just doesn’t work.
