Methio-Form is a chewable tablet that may be prescribed by veterinarians to treat and prevent urinary tract infections and kidney and bladder stones in companion animals. It's a urine acidifier that may help control odor from urine residue. It comes in an easy-to-administer chewable tablet form that can also be crumbled into food.


For use as an aid in acidifying the urine of dogs and cats. Methio-Form is also an aid in controlling the odor from feline and canine urine residues. Methio-Form Chewable Tablets may be used as a source of the essential amino acid, DL-methionine.

Drug & Food Interactions

Do not administer to animals with severe liver, kidney or pancreatic disease, or those which are acidotic due to conditions such as uncontrolled diabetes mellitus or urinary obstruction.


In rare cases animals may experience gastrointestinal disturbance. In those cases, administer during feeding or in two to three divided doses. Caution should be advised against overdosing animals to avoid chronic over-acidification.

Recommended Dosage

Dogs: The usual daily dose is 2-4 mEq/kg body weight. Small breeds- 7 kg (15lbs) or under, 1/2 to 4 tablets Medium breeds- 7-15 kg (15 to 33 lbs), 2 to 7 tablets. Large breeds- 15-30 kg (33-66 lbs), 4 to 13 tablets.

Cats: The usual daily dose is 2.5-5 mEq/kg body weight for 1/2 to 1 tablet per 1-1.5 kg (2.5-3 lbs) body weight. Average size adult cats normally should receive 1 1/2 to 3 tablets (10-20 mEq) daily.

Storage Instructions

Store at temperatures between 68° - 77°F. Avoid excessive heat over 104°F.

Methio-Form Chewable Tablets contains D-L methionine and is used to acidify urine in both dogs and cats. Urinary acidifiers are used when the pH of the urine is too high, causing struvite stone and crystal formation. It may help in dissolving struvite stones with time. Methio-Forms active ingredient is dl-methionine, an amino acid that acidifies your pets urine. It also helps to treat and prevent certain types of bladder stones.
