I have four or five of these and love them. I’m needing to take one apart to transport it and I got the bottom board off but which direction do the two pieces of the tower part turn? It doesn’t seem to be normal where turn right and it’s tighter, turn left and it’s looser.

I just did this, but if it's tight get a friend and both of you put on work gloves. With someone holding the bottom cylinder, turn the upper cylinder counter-clockwise. Our cats love to attack this post.
What kind of material is the top made of? Is it a sturdy wood? Could I screw a piece of wood into the top to make a perch/platform?

The base and post is made of wood which is covered in faux fur or sisal rope, to make this a very durable and stable scratching post. While it is not designed with a perch, we have had customer reports of making alterations.
Is there a maximum weight limit supported by this scratching post?

All 4 cats love it

We have four cats and all of them love this scratcher. Our largest cat gets so happy using it because it is the first time he has been able to fully stretch while scratching. It is very solid and will hopefully last a long time.

Way too tall for my adult cat.

Very sturdy and will be useful for a looong time, especially since I took it apart and saved the top section for a second one. Covered the projecting screw on the remaining bottom section with the squeeze end of an eye dropper.

Taking Up Space

I put it up and the little one jumped to the top, fell off and was done. The other 2 have taken zero interest. It's just taking up space. I waited too long to return it. I bought the 3 cacti three times before and they destroyed them! They loved them so much, but they took up a lot of space. This one is pretty though.

Exactly what I was looking for

This scratching post is exactly what I was looking for--sturdy, tall enough for the cats to stretch out, sisal for the scratching surface, and easy to assemble. It took a few days for the cats to realize that this was their new toy, but now they're using it consistently.

Disappointed

I hadn’t even put it together before I found a tear in the dark brown carpeting on the bottom piece. And my cat sharpened his claws on the bottom piece and pieces of carpet already started coming off. The carpet on the bottom piece is extremely cheap and I can tell it’s not going to last long. I’m going to have to take it apart, once he’s torn it to pieces, and attach the long pole onto the bottom piece of my old scratching post.

Amazing

My 12 yr old cat LOVES this. It's so much bigger than the one he's had for years. The price was great. I got it on sale. I've had to re-wrap his old one, one too many times so it was time for an upgrade. His old one was a decent size but this new one is huge and wider than I realized it was going to be. I spray it with his Kong cat nip spray.

Sturdy Scratch Post

Very nice, sturdy scratch post. Super easy to put together. Can't say too much about how Cash likes it; we just moved so he's still adjusting. He's only used it a few times, but it holds his weight so much better than his previous scratch post. The material seems to be more durable than the previous one as well. We bought 3 similar products and so far, we're happy with the quality; especially since we purchased these on sale.

Great after 3 years

Sturdy, well used, and easy assemble. All three cats like the long vertical stretch and tall scratching this post allows. They all use it throughout the day for scratching and playing - but one also lounges on the bottom, sits on the top of the post and in general feels it makes him more manly. We have had it about three years and it’s still going strong. It now has a couple of small bald areas on the bottom - nothing considering the love and abuse it has taken! Also, It was easy to set up and easy to take apart when we moved. All in all a great purchase and well worth the money.

Best I've seen, but unclear directions

My cat (12 ibs) really enjoys this post. It is very heavy (a little hard for me to move), so it doesn't tip over when he pulls, stretches and even climbs. My only complaint is that I assembled it according to the included directions (a little hard because it is so heavy), and there was a piece left over. The post, itself, is a little wobbly on its stand, so I'm thinking that this extra piece must fit between the two pieces of the post, which I will try soon. Meanwhile, I think that directions for something this simple should also be simple and clear, which they are not. All that said, I would buy this again.

Great scratching post...size and type!

All 3 of my kitties love this scratching post! It has been great for their nails and they also love climbing it and then sitting on top like the kings they are! :)
