    This is a BIG crate!

By Kipling on Jun 15, 2020

I ordered this 42 in crate for our 8 week old golden doodle puppy. I was trying to avoid buying multiple crates as he grew and this crate has a divider (which works great!). Even though I knew the measurements and measured out the size to see how it would fit in our home, when we assembled the crate I ordered this 42 in crate for our 8 week old golden doodle puppy. I was trying to avoid buying multiple crates as he grew and this crate has a divider (which works great!). Even though I knew the measurements and measured out the size to see how it would fit in our home, when we assembled the crate it was HUGE!!! Our puppy sleeps great in it at night, but he doesn’t want anything to do with it during the day (and he is now 16 weeks old). This makes me wonder if it feels too big for him. In retrospect, I feel like I should have ordered the smaller crate for the beginning (to let all of us get used to the crate) and then ordered a larger one once he was full grown. The crate is of good quality, has a front door and a side door (we haven’t been able to use the side door yet as we are still using the divider and it hooks into the side of the crate and prevents the side door from being able to open). It has a bottom tray, so no crate mat is needed (we use a small blanket/towel). The door opens to the left and I don’t think you have the option of changing this. … more

42" icrate not great, but functional with modifications

Wouldn't recommend for big or little dogs with crate issues, but we raise puppies and put them in the crate after their bath before they leave. We got the 2 door model. Doors don't fit as tightly as our older models and rattle a lot. Our older ones are a different brand, but don't know if I can mention Wouldn't recommend for big or little dogs with crate issues, but we raise puppies and put them in the crate after their bath before they leave. We got the 2 door model. Doors don't fit as tightly as our older models and rattle a lot. Our older ones are a different brand, but don't know if I can mention it here. We'll have to find a way to make them tighter so a puppy doesn't get a foot/leg caught between door and frame. Also wish the bottom horizontal bars were all the same height all the way around (around 6" from bottom) because we attach a vinyl covered wire floor so puppies don't get messy. We have to use the higher bar which makes it more difficult to attach because of the doors, and wastes space. Wish they came with wire grid 1"x1" floors (not those 1/2"x 2" ones that are vinyl covered and too heavy. The poop does not fall through!) … more
