We bought this gate as an alternative to keeping our bedroom door shut all-day, and I am very happy to say, it works perfectly for what we were looking for. We have two Samoyeds in our house, both are under two years old, and they are the ultimate crime-committing team. They love to break into rooms together and steal whatever they possibly can, and this gate prevents them from doing so! Installation was super straightforward and easy, and we had no issues fitting the gate into our door frame. The height worked perfectly with our door knob, so we are able to open and close our door with no issues with the gate installed. We have had the gate for several weeks now, and we are very happy with it thus far!
While it is a heavy, sturdy gate, I don’t like the fact that it is so hard to put up and take down. The room we use them in connects the kitchen to the rest of the house. The dog only needs confined when we are away from the house, so we needed gates that are easily removed. I also don’t like the fact that the gate cannot be left open when not needed. I would recommend the gate only if someone needed it up all the time.
This is a very SOLID AND STURDY gate, easy installation, unlocks easy, love that it swings both ways, that is very convenient as my gate is placed in the way to the front door so I will be coming and going in both directions. I did not use any of the cups that can be drilled then screwed in place in the wall. The gate was very secure without it so no need for it in my case. It was an over all EXCELLENT buy. I would highly recommend this product.
This gate was easy to install and is very sturdy and easy to use. I am learning how to open it one handed. It is the perfect solution to overly exuberant dogs reacting to visitors at our front door. They can see and smell who is there but there is no jumping or nipping!
I purchased this gate because of the great reviews, it's made of metal and a walk thru. It was a great purchase. The gate is priced lower than any of our local stores and was delivered in 2 days. THANK YOU!
I'll start with the good. The gate is sturdy. The metal framework is heavy duty enough that once the top is adjusted and compressed to latch and unlatch properly the gate stays pretty securely in place. Our previous gates would slip and twist. This one does not. Now the shortcomings. Our previous gate would stay open if you opened it all the way. This one does not. It makes it very difficult to leave or enter the room if you have things in your hands.. It would be so much better if it could be made to stay open when you wanted it to be open. The other shortcoming is that you have to lift the gate at the same time you release the top latch in order to free the bottom of the gate and allow it to swing open. It does not lift smoothly or easily if you try to do it with one hand at the latch end of the top. It sticks and does not slide up smoothly if you try to open it that way. If you use two hands...one to release the latch and the other to lift the gate closer to the middle or hinge end of the gate's top it opens much easier. But again this is an obstacle if you are trying to enter or leave the room with anything in your hands. It's good. It could be better.
Instructions are vague, would help if you were actually an engineer. Parts are not clear where to use for reg door or extension. NO instruction for the top latch, two pieces I had to figure out for myself and then the screw would not run on the bottom part to secure the latch, pretty useless so called walkthrough gate currently, will be asking for a refund or at least send me a WORKING LATCH
Got a new furbaby that jumped the old gate we had. Thankfully he only got a hold of a bag of sweet potatoes, but after looking at a bunch of over priced gates from our local stores I decided to check out chewy to see if they had better options. I also measured incorrectly and realized I need a 3inch extension after the fact, but even with the extension add on it didn't cost as much as the other stores in our area. It does have the release and lift mechanism to it which could be a inconvenience to some people, but again with the cost factor I thought it was worth the price I paid.
Gave 4 stars because you have to lift the gate when you unlock the latch to open it. Difficult for me with arthritis in arms. Was easy for hubby to install and works great for keeping our Aussie and Border Collie out of living room. Looks very nice.
Over the years we have tried many pet gates. We have had two new puppies in the past year, so we had the chance to try a few new ones. This one is easily the best one I have ever had. Why do I say that? 1. It is 41" high - this is finally high enough to prevent our current puppy from jumping over it. 2. The opening is nice and wide. I find myself squeezing through the other gates, but this one is no problem. 3. It has no horizontal bars to give climbers a paw-hold. Our current pup is an amazing climber, so this is key. We have two other gates that she can just scramble right over (one has a cat door in it and the other some horizontal bars related to the (awful) hands-free opening mechanism). 4. It is very sturdy. The opening mechanism requires a lifting motion that is a bit tricky to get used to, but as a result, the locking mechanism engages at both top and bottom. This makes for a very secure lock that can withstand all the puppy energy (jumping and pushing on the gate). 5. The feet are rubber - not plastic. We don't want to ruin our woodwork by drilling into it and we thought the feet looked like plastic, so we got some wall nannies (also recommend!). It turns out the feet are rubber, so it wasn't really necessary, but they sure do stay put wonderfully with the wall nannies! 6. There is really nothing for a puppy to chew on. Our other gates have knobs or rubber foot pedals that tend to get chewed up by the little ones when we aren't looking.
