The amounts in the table are intended as guidelines only. The food intake should be adjusted according to the age, weight, breed, temperature, climate and activity level of your dog. Consult a veterinarian for specific weight recommendations.
Adult dogs should be fed either once or twice per day. When you first start feeding Natural Balance® L.I.D. Limited Ingredient Diet Dry Dog Food, we suggest starting with the amounts recommended in the table. Energy requirements vary with environmental conditions, temperature and activity of your dog. The amount of food should always be adjusted to suit your dog's needs.
For pregnant females: A minimal increase is needed during the first 6 weeks. Increase the amount fed up to 25% during weeks 7, 8, and 9. For lactating females: Immediately after whelping, the nutritional demand increases by 50% compared to maintenance levels. Feed in 3 equal meals per day. For working dogs: Based on the work your dog will be asked to perform, the nutritional requirements will vary accordingly. As the workload increases, the demand for protein and fat increases proportionally. Dogs in hard training will generally require twice the maintenance levels. For older dogs: As your dog begins to age, his energy expenditure will decrease. Decreasing the amount of food accordingly will allow for the maintenance of proper body weight for a less active dog.
Remember, fresh clean water should be available at all times!
When switching your dog's diet, the change should be made gradually by replacing the current food with increasing portions of Natural Balance® L.I.D. Limited Ingredient Diets® Legume & Duck Meal Dry Dog Food. The change should be completed after 5 - 7 days. The maintenance of proper body weight is most important for your dog's health. Consult your veterinarian for specific weight recommendations for your dog.

May be suitable to replace discontinued California Natural LID Foods
By cksdjs on Apr 12, 2018
My girls are allergic to 11 foods, between them. Calif. Natural had 4 flavors they could eat, and we stayed with the Salmon Meal & Peas, since they liked it the best; their Dr. wanted them on one flavor consistently. The ingredients of this food (out of a bunch I looked at) looked okay, and then I found it on both my Yorkie daughters' "suggested foods" lists, that came with their allergy blood test results. However, their Dr. had not highlighted it, as she did with the Calif. Natural foods. I am still waiting on an answer from her on changing to this food, and I found a 26 lb bag of their Salmon, to carry them 6 mo. or more. In the meantime, I am giving them 4 pieces of this Natural Balance My girls are allergic to 11 foods, between them. Calif. In the meantime, I am giving them 4 pieces of this Natural Balance Legume & Duck Meal as a desert treat after their meals, and they do like it. I plan to change them over to this in the next 6 mo., after that using their Salmon food as the treats, unless their Dr. finds one that she thinks will fit their circumstances better. I will keep a good amount of the Salmon food to use for treats, by refrigerating and/or freezing it to keep it fresh. Chewy has been great for me, and my girls, ever since their allergy tests were completed, and I needed a food that I could not find locally. They have gone out of their way more than once. I even found this new food, by checking out the foods that they offered as suggestions. A lot of the non-rice foods still have potatoes or sweet potatoes and my girls are allergic to both. The Chewy representative was of great help, which I appreciate very much. For anyone who's babies seem to have food allergies, I highly recommend the allergy blood test for them. It is well worth the money, and will tell you exactly the foods that they should not have. Easier for you, and kinder to them; now my girls are no longer on Prednisone for their digestive problems. … more

BEST STUFF ON THE INTERNET
By YORKIEPUMBA on Feb 19, 2018
BEEN USING CHEWEY FOR A COUPLE YEARS NOW. ALL THEIR PRODUCTS ARE OF EXCELLENT QUALITY AND VERY ECONOMICAL. ONE OF MY DOGS NOW WILL NOT EAT HIS FRESH BOILED CHICKEN--ONLY WANTS HIS LEGUME & DUCK MEAL PELLETS. NOW IF I COULD ONLY TRAIN THE LITTLE DEVILS TO PEE OUTSIDE INSTEAD OF INSIDE I COULD SAVE A FORTUNE ON PODDY PADS--:(

The ONLY food for our rescue dog
By Gail on May 31, 2017
Our rescue dog ended up allergic to everything we have tried for over a year. Finally we found Legume and Duck. She has done better with this than anything, then they stopped carrying it. Chewy and this Natural Balance Duck Legume has been a life saver and prevented our dog from any more hematoma's on her ear. The first bout of that cost $1000. When I couldn't find it in the store she started rubbing her ear on the floor again. I absolutely LOVE having it shipped to our door. Customer Service has been superb. Couldn't ask for better on ALL accounts. Thank you so much.

Not for my ultra sensitive lab
By Sweetpea0214 on May 11, 2017
My pup has allergies so we've been trying him on various NB LID foods. This one didn't work. He seems to do best on Venison and Sweet Potato.
