The amounts in the table are intended as guidelines only. The food intake should be adjusted according to the age, weight, breed, temperature, climate and activity level of your dog. Consult a veterinarian for specific weight recommendations.

Adult dogs should be fed either once or twice per day. When you first start feeding Natural Balance® L.I.D. Limited Ingredient Diet Dry Dog Food, we suggest starting with the amounts recommended in the table. Energy requirements vary with environmental conditions, temperature and activity of your dog. The amount of food should always be adjusted to suit your dog's needs.

For pregnant females: A minimal increase is needed during the first 6 weeks. Increase the amount fed up to 25% during weeks 7, 8, and 9. For lactating females: Immediately after whelping, the nutritional demand increases by 50% compared to maintenance levels. Feed in 3 equal meals per day. For working dogs: Based on the work your dog will be asked to perform, the nutritional requirements will vary accordingly. As the workload increases, the demand for protein and fat increases proportionally. Dogs in hard training will generally require twice the maintenance levels. For older dogs: As your dog begins to age, his energy expenditure will decrease. Decreasing the amount of food accordingly will allow for the maintenance of proper body weight for a less active dog.

Remember, fresh clean water should be available at all times!

Transition Instructions

When switching your dog's diet, the change should be made gradually by replacing the current food with increasing portions of Natural Balance® L.I.D. Limited Ingredient Diets® Legume & Duck Meal Dry Dog Food. The change should be completed after 5 - 7 days. The maintenance of proper body weight is most important for your dog's health. Consult your veterinarian for specific weight recommendations for your dog.

Great for dogs with food allergies!

    By on

This Natural Balance Limited Ingredient dry dog food in Duck and Legume is fantastic! I recently got a new dog with lots of food allergies and IBSD; the previous owners didn’t know all of what he couldn’t have just that he could tolerate Hill Prescription Z/D food. They did tell me he had reactions to beef, chicken, pork, wheat and corn so I thought it was odd he was on Z/D which’s top two ingredients are corn and chicken. I did a lot of research on dog food allergies and decided to give this food a try. The first time I mixed in 1/4 into my dogs 2 cups of food he gobbled every bit of food (unusual for him). Within two weeks we had switched him over completely and he is a different dog; no more This Natural Balance Limited Ingredient dry dog food in Duck and Legume is fantastic! Within two weeks we had switched him over completely and he is a different dog; no more pink irritation to his nose, ears, eyes and paws! He’s pooping solid for what I’m told is the first time in his 8 year life and his fur is growing back in thinning areas and is shiny and soft. He has more energy and overall appears to feel much better. He was about 10 pounds underweight when I got him and thanks to this food he has been able to put on a pound per week and is finally at an ideal weight. Thank you Natural Balance Limited Ingredient dog food for helping my furry baby!! … more

    Happy Lab Happy Dad

This stuff is great for a picky dog with allergies! We saw results in her coat just one week with our collie/lab mix. For months I looked for a food that would work with her allergies both tummy and skin and finally found this! Plus—she gobbles it up for breakfast and dinner! Highly recommend

    Winner! Winner! Duck dinner!

The first brand of food that my dogs RUN for! In the past, they would continue napping or stroll in when they heard their food hit the bowl. Now it’s a hurdle jumping, floor skidding, tail wagging race! High quality. Great price. Quick delivery.

    Not a great deal

Great for my dogs we use this all the time. I have an allergic dog and good is perfect for that. It is hard when you can’t give rice, carrots, peanuts, wheat so finding this food was a blessing . I like the variety and flavors and fact that it is natural. It is all we buy so how can we not be satisfied. We used a different food but their rating plummeted so grateful for this

May be suitable to replace discontinued California Natural LID Foods

My girls are allergic to 11 foods, between them. Calif. Natural had 4 flavors they could eat, and we stayed with the Salmon Meal & Peas, since they liked it the best; their Dr. wanted them on one flavor consistently. The ingredients of this food (out of a bunch I looked at) looked okay, and then I found it on both my Yorkie daughters' "suggested foods" lists, that came with their allergy blood test results. However, their Dr. had not highlighted it, as she did with the Calif. Natural foods. I am still waiting on an answer from her on changing to this food, and I found a 26 lb bag of their Salmon, to carry them 6 mo. or more. In the meantime, I am giving them 4 pieces of this Natural Balance My girls are allergic to 11 foods, between them. Calif. In the meantime, I am giving them 4 pieces of this Natural Balance Legume & Duck Meal as a desert treat after their meals, and they do like it. I plan to change them over to this in the next 6 mo., after that using their Salmon food as the treats, unless their Dr. finds one that she thinks will fit their circumstances better. I will keep a good amount of the Salmon food to use for treats, by refrigerating and/or freezing it to keep it fresh. Chewy has been great for me, and my girls, ever since their allergy tests were completed, and I needed a food that I could not find locally. They have gone out of their way more than once. I even found this new food, by checking out the foods that they offered as suggestions. A lot of the non-rice foods still have potatoes or sweet potatoes and my girls are allergic to both. The Chewy representative was of great help, which I appreciate very much. For anyone who's babies seem to have food allergies, I highly recommend the allergy blood test for them. It is well worth the money, and will tell you exactly the foods that they should not have. Easier for you, and kinder to them; now my girls are no longer on Prednisone for their digestive problems. … more
