Good thing
By Kari on Jan 16, 2021
It has a temporary mild smell of fresh sawdust and pine. The main reason I switched to this cat litter is because the clay litter dust was accumulating in my cat’s air way and making it difficult to breath. I did notice my cat’s asthma attacks were less and less since I started using walnut shell cat littler. It does control the pee smell at 100%. For the poop smell, it takes a few minutes. Specially when one of my three kitties does not covers it. I know when that happens because we live in an apartment on the second floor and the box is in my bedroom. I clean the box once in the morning and once at night and the used littler does not crumble. The crushed walnuts are not sharp or pokey. They It has a temporary mild smell of fresh sawdust and pine. I checked to make sure. My kitties have white mittens but I only noticed one of them to have some light red powder on her. She is the one with the asthma situation. It seems she spends more time digging on the litter. About the dust.......is not 100% dust free, but it is 100% free of silica and 100% free of clay. Switching to this cat littler it’s been a really good thing. I’m about to order my second 26LBS bag. BTW, I do have the mask for my kitty and the inhaler prescribed by the vet. But that’s another story. … more

I LOVE THIS CAT LITTER!!!
By Emily on Jan 14, 2021
I’m a new kitty mom and want the best (within reason) for my 5 year old rescue. I bought this on a whim a few weeks ago, as my kitty loves her clay. I, on the other hand, hate clay. I’ve tried a few different clay litters and can’t seem to find one good enough. I’ve tried soy pellets (she hates them) and thought about trying the feline pine pellets, but snagged this first. It. Clumps. Perfectly!! And is SO much easier to scoop out of her standard issue litter box than clay! Clay would always stick to the bottom and I’d end up with a dusty, scrapy mess. I’m not kidding you, this litter is a treat! Plus, it smells great, I can’t even tell she’s used the box! Only interesting piece to note is, (and maybe this is TMI) she still uses a clay filled, disposable litterbox (which I’m trying to phase out. Transitioning her and all) when going #2. Hopefully she makes the full transition soon!! (She uses the walnut for #1). … more

Good Environmentally Friendly Litter
By DebCats on Jan 8, 2021
I recently switched to this from pine pellets. I liked the pine pellets because they helped control the smell way better than traditional clay litter but I had recently heard things about wood dust causing health issues so I wanted to find a healthier alternative. I tried Naturally Fresh in pellet form first but wasn't really impressed with the clumping and felt like I was wasting too much. Then I tried this formula and I am really happy with it. The downside is that there is some dust while pouring and it does take about 15 minutes for the clumps to harden, so you can't scoop right away, but I only scoop twice per day so it works for me. The cats have had no aversion to it and the odor control I recently switched to this from pine pellets. Doesn’t trap urine
By RLS930 on Dec 24, 2020
I have been looking for while for an alternative to traditional litter, finally decided after some time to try this. I was excited to see it was a green alternative. Everyone really liked it based on reviews. I however DID NOT. The color is just too dark for my cat, the dark brown really threw her off- I thought it was gonna be much lighter. As for this, she had problems the first few days covering her business. But my biggest problem with it was the fact that the urine isn’t soaked/stopped much at all, and pools at the bottom. So when it finally does dry, about 40-60% has caked onto the bottom of her disposable liner. I find myself scraping away trying to get it all... Just know if these issues I had with it. Thanks. … more

Very Dusty
By Brookecooky826 on Jan 10, 2021
I bought this litter for my kitten, and I was not a fan. Pros: It does clump well like the package says. It is pretty light. My kitten didn’t seem to mind the litter. Cons: I do not care for the smell of the litter (before it is even used). It is VERY dusty. There is a brown cloud when I am scooping out the litter box and when I pour in new litter. The sides of the litter box and the scoop are coated in a brown dust.

Best Litter I’ve Found
By Abbey on Dec 31, 2020
I’ve tried so many different clay litters and couldn’t find one that wasn’t dusty and covered the smell. So I began my search for a completely different kind of litter...and this one takes the gold! This litter is much lighter than clay and COMPLETELY dust free! It clumps really well and is really easy to scoop. The only thing that I don’t like about this litter is that it tracks, a lot. I think it actually tracks more than clay litter, and since the litter is so light my cats kick it out of the box more often than they did with the clay. But I am definitely going to stick with this litter!

Better than all the others
By Zoo713 on Dec 23, 2020
I switched to natural litter products this past year and have tried them all: paper based, wheat based, corn based... you name it. This product (walnut shell) is better than all the others!! First of all, it clumps fast so less litter is soaked. This means you are actually using a lot less. I found the wheat litter especially didn’t clump AT ALL and I was going through 60 pounds of litter a month! Second, it STOPS odor. I mean actually STOPS it. With the other natural litters, when I opened the litter box to clean I’d be overwhelmed by the ammonia odor - despite cleaning the litter box 2X a day! Not with this product. No smell... at all. Even when I missed a cleaning! Third, this product doesn I switched to natural litter products this past year and have tried them all: paper based, wheat based, corn based... you name it. Not great, just kinda meh..
By MotherofPugs on Dec 29, 2020
I hate traditional clay litter. No matter how much I spend on it is seems like it still stinks. I found this and the price is great...the smell isn’t bad but if you let it sit too long it SMELLS. But hey that’s true for anything. The biggest problem I have is it is so small it tracks all over the house. I have light carpet and find it everywhere. My kitty is a flinger when it comes to litter, she has a covered box with a privacy curtain and a rug in front to catch stray pieces, it’s still literally all over my house. It’s easy to vacuum, so there’s that...but yeah. It’s not my favorite thing ever. Just okay. Not great.

Highly underrated
By Janel on Dec 7, 2020
I know there were some mixed reviews for this product. I went ahead and gave it try as I've tried several other types and brands of cat litter (especially the alternatives). I think I may have found a winner! After a month, this seems to be working well, in terms of less tracking. My 20 y.o. cat wasn't as "weird" about it as I transitioned from temporarily going back to clumping clay (seems to be the favorite "feel" for most kitty paws). The dust level is quite low and this effectively clumps and traps smell. No fake scents as this is all-natural walnut shells and is completely compostable, via compost regulations (yet another plus). It is winter here in the Midwest, so I will see how warmer I know there were some mixed reviews for this product. Wasn’t sure at first...
By Jo27 on Dec 31, 2020
The littler looks like coffee grinds and has a slight odor. I was skeptical of this litter when I put a layer on the existing litter in the box. The odor is strong from the bag but not evident when in the box. It clumps like my other brands. Then the keeper is no off smell from the litter box, even when one of my cats doesn’t cover their poo. I am impressed. My other litter wouldn’t stop litter box smells like this one. It’s been a week and I’m happy, cats seem happy too!
