Is this safe for a pregnant dog?
Answer by • Aug 21, 2019
This supplement is safe for dogs and cats of all ages, when given as directed. Dietary and other healthcare changes should be made under the guidance of your vet, particularly when underlying health conditions exist.
I have used this product in the past for my two dogs all year, daily, as a flea and tick treatment with ZERO issues. I needed more and so I ordered a new container and it wound my one year old Doberman at the vet for an emergency visit due to GI inflammation and now in a colitis flare; vomiting, sever bloat, diarrhea, pale gums, lethargic. She is given one tablespoon once daily which is less than the amount it says to give in the package as she weighs 54lbs. The only thing that changed with her every day diet was this supplement, no new treats, no table scraps, nothing. The vet said to discontinue using this product and now she is on hills D/D until her GI tract is healed. NEVER expected to have this issue and am so upset especially with the amount of discomfort it has caused my dog.

DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT
I bought this product because I needed a safe alternative to fleas for my cat. IT ALMOST KILLED HER. GARLIC IS POISON FOR CATS AND DOGS. I didn’t know this there is no warning I felt if chewy was going to put it on there website it was safe it’s not. I am still not 100% sure my cat is going to make it. It has been 4 days of extreme struggle. DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT

WARNING!! YOUR CAT MAY STOP EATING AND DIE!! Mix in gradually!
I take care of a lot of kitties and hoped this would help with the fleas. I mixed the product in the recommended amount with their cat food and the regularly suggested amount of coconut oil. I have given them this amount of coconut oil habitually before, with no problems or reactions to it. However, it seems that two of my cats must have been badly affected by the yeast, because they subsequently stopped eating at all. No matter what I tried (tuna, wet food, broth, canned chicken), they refused to eat, and eventually to drink. I can't afford surgery to heal them, or IV treatments and hospital stays, so neither of them survived. I think that it's important that buyers know the risks, and I think it would be good to instruct buyers to add this yeast very gradually rather than just going ahead and adding it in the recommended dose right away, as is listed in the instructions, and as I did. It was so sad and awful to lose two of my cats, our family was heartbroken.

Made my Great Pyrenees itchy
We have 3 Great Pyrenees. I've only been using this for less a week, putting a heaping teaspoon on night food. One, 125 pounds, is so itchy scratchy now that I've given him Benadryl. He's never itched and scratched like this. It has to be the brewers yeast. Little scratching yesterday but moreso right after dinner. The other two are okay with it but I'm taking it out of their diet and might call the vet tomorrow.

Dogs/cats won't eat.
Wasted my money. Neither the dogs or the cats like and refuse to eat food that I put it on. I tried very small amount first, but didn't trick them. Had to stop using.

The feral cats
I bought brewer's yeast because it's suppose to help with fleas; these specific cats are feral. They don't like it, so I have decreased the amount I mix in with their food significantly.
Hopefully they will get accustomed to it
