Your dog's requirement may vary from this feeding guide due to age, breed, environment, activity level, and body condition. Adjust food quantities as necessary to maintain optimal weight. Ask your veterinarian if you're unsure about how much to feed your dog. If you're feeding Newman's Own Adult Dog Food for the first time, you should gradually adjust your dog's current diet to avoid stomach upset. Simply mix 1/4 part Newman's Own Adult Dog Food with your current dog food for 2-3 days. Gradually increase Newman's Own Adult Dog Food and decrease your current dog food until you are feeding all Newman's Own Adult Dog Food this transition should occur over 2-3 weeks. Keep fresh clean drinking water available at all times.
Are your pet products thoroughly tested?
Yes. All of our pet products are manufactured to the highest standards of quality control and samples are obtained during each production run for analysis and retention for additional evaluation.
Is there any animal testing involved?
No. The only analytical testing done is in a laboratory where animals are NOT allowed. We do ""taste testing"" with animals awaiting adoption in a local humane society shelter.
I would like to begin feeding Newman’s Own pet food to my dog and cat. I have read that if this is done too fast that intestinal upsets may result. What are your recommendations?
Whenever there is a change of diet, its advisable to slowly introduce the new food by mixing it into the food currently fed. We recommend mixing Newman’s Own pet foods with your current pet food over a period of approximately 2-3 weeks to guarantee that your dog or cat’s digestive system adjusts to the new food. It is important to remember that Newman’s Own pet food ingredients such as fresh natural chicken and organic brown rice, being whole foods, may be richer and may be more nutritionally concentrated than your current food. We always recommend that you contact your veterinarian if your animal has persistent digestive upsets.
Can I mix NewmanS Own canned foods with dry foods?
Yes. Canned foods are a great way to add a little variety and ""extra"" taste to dry foods.
Why do the dry formulas contain soy?
Soy is an excellent low-fat source of bio-available protein that contains antioxidant compounds and amino acids that boost the immune system and decrease levels of LDL cholesterol. We use organic soybean meal in all our dry food formulas. Our team of veterinarians, including a board-certified veterinary nutritionist, felt that organic soybean meal provided an excellent hypoallergenic and concentrated source of many of the essential micro and macro nutrients that animals can benefit from.
What is carrageenan?
Carrageenan is a seaweed extract common in the Atlantic Ocean near Britain, Continental Europe and North America and used as a thickening agent in place of animal-based products like gelatin, which is extracted from animal bones. Seaweed is boiled to extract the carrageenan, and in that sense, carrageenan is completely ""natural"" and not much different from tomato in its creation.
What Is Taurine and why is it important for my cat's?
Taurine is an essential amino acid for cat's that is found in meat protein. It is a dietary requirement for a good eyesight, heart function, digestion (production of bile salts) and proper reproduction. Taurine is essential in cat's because it is required by the heart and eyes however it is neither manufactured nor available in the body. Therefore, cat's need meat to fulfill this requirement (obligate carnivores), as Taurine is only found in animal proteins such as chicken.
Why does the Advanced Formula, which is recommended for older dog's, have higher protein levels than the Adult Formula?
The advanced is higher in protein than the adult (24 vs. 21%) and is formulated for puppies, active dog's and seniors on the premise that the first 2 groups require higher levels of protein due to increased growth and energy needs and the later because of the decreased intestinal absorption associated with aging.

FINALLY A FOOD MY SAINT LOVES
By Saint on Sep 9, 2020
Our St. Bernard is 3+ years old and in the two years since we adopted him I'll bet I've gone through countless different brands of kibble and canned foods for toppers. I have added organic cage free chicken breasts, organic ground beef, lamb and tuna and EVERY night was a struggle to get him to eat. I tried this food with great pessimism and our boy eats this with nothing on it -- gobbles it up. He LOVES it. His stools are perfect -- not the mushy mess I use to have. I'm SO, SO, SO happy with this food. I just hope he continues to love it. If you've got a picky eater TRY IT! I didn't think it was possible that feeding time could be simple again and stress free and 100% of profits go to charity Our St. Bernard is 3+ years old and in the two years since we adopted him I'll bet I've gone through countless different brands of kibble and canned foods for toppers. Great base food
By Notadocta on Aug 11, 2020
Newmans organic is as good a dog food as you will find. ZERO recalls, organic product means your best chance to avoid problems as they age. I call it a base food because it is a bit carb heavy as a stand alone. I mix it with real human grade meats so the complete amino acid profile requirements are met. There is always a 93%lean burger, chicken breasts, or a half can of sardines. Liver is also a great augment when it is available. I don't do raw as bacteria concerns trouble me. Thanks for a great product!

What's More to Love?
By sbensley on Aug 25, 2020
My 5-year-old Aussie loves Newman's! I searched for a long time for an organic, grain-inclusive and independently-owned dog food brand that wasn't outrageously priced. Newman's fit the bill! I also love that it has never been recalled. I give my girl a spoonful of the canned Newman's as well. Would definitely recommend.

customer and dog owner
By nora on Aug 16, 2020
The 20 pd bag of kibble ( $50) is strongly smelling of rancid oil which means it’s been sitting in a warehouse a long time and old kibble is not a healthy food for dogs or cats. Chewy could not have known but they should pay attention to such details. I will not subject my dog to eat it. It will go to the crows around here.

Newman's Own
By Bamamom on Jul 21, 2020
I only rated this a three star because my dogs wouldn't really eat it. I bought a small bag to see how they would like it. I have 4 dogs that seem to be going through a phase. They don't seem to want to eat any dry dog food. My husband bought a small bag of Blue Buffalo from the store and they seem to like it. With our next order I don't know if I will get that or try something different.

Very dry, very disappointing
By nancy on May 18, 2020
I am on the look out for a new food for my 3 angels, I decided to give this food a try because they advertise it as organic. Well I started with the transition by given them a little bit more each like well my dogs refuse to eat it from day one, they only eat there regular food and left the Newman's. In the end they refuse to eat it I don't know why but probably they didn't like the taste but I think it's because it's very dry.

My Cocker Spaniels Love!
By Cockermom on Jul 17, 2020
I have 3 cocker spaniel dogs who absolutely love the Newman's Own Dog Food. The puppies (now 20 months) were so happy to finally be old enough to eat what their big sister was eating!

MY DOG LOVES IT
By Margaret on Feb 26, 2020
My dog, Molly, loves it. I realized that the food the vet was giving her was bad for her. It was full of wheat (which made her itch) preservatives and made her gain weight. We had to force her to eat it (like putting chicken on top) and then she ate the chicken off and left the food. We never have to force her to eat Newman's Own and it is half the price of the prescription food we were giving her. Thanks!
