If you're feeding Newmans Own adult dog food for the first time, you should gradually adjust your dog's current diet to avoid stomach upset. Simply mix 1/4 part Newmans Own adult dog food with your current dog food for 2-3 days. Gradually increase NewmanS Own adult dog food and decrease your current dog food until you are feeding all NewmanS Own adult dog food this transition should occur over 2-3 weeks. Keep fresh clean drinking water available at all times.
Are your pet products thoroughly tested?
Yes. All of our pet products are manufactured to the highest standards of quality control and samples are obtained during each production run for analysis and retention for additional evaluation.
Is there any animal testing involved?
No. The only analytical testing done is in a laboratory where animals are NOT allowed. We do ""taste testing"" with animals awaiting adoption in a local humane society shelter.
I would like to begin feeding Newman’s Own pet food to my dog and cat. I have read that if this is done too fast that intestinal upsets may result. What are your recommendations?
Whenever there is a change of diet, its advisable to slowly introduce the new food by mixing it into the food currently fed. We recommend mixing Newman’s Own pet foods with your current pet food over a period of approximately 2-3 weeks to guarantee that your dog or cat’s digestive system adjusts to the new food. It is important to remember that Newman’s Own pet food ingredients such as fresh natural chicken and organic brown rice, being whole foods, may be richer and may be more nutritionally concentrated than your current food. We always recommend that you contact your veterinarian if your animal has persistent digestive upsets.
Can I mix NewmanS Own canned foods with dry foods?
Yes. Canned foods are a great way to add a little variety and ""extra"" taste to dry foods.
Why do the dry formulas contain soy?
Soy is an excellent low-fat source of bio-available protein that contains antioxidant compounds and amino acids that boost the immune system and decrease levels of LDL cholesterol. We use organic soybean meal in all our dry food formulas. Our team of veterinarians, including a board-certified veterinary nutritionist, felt that organic soybean meal provided an excellent hypoallergenic and concentrated source of many of the essential micro and macro nutrients that animals can benefit from.
What is carrageenan?
Carrageenan is a seaweed extract common in the Atlantic Ocean near Britain, Continental Europe and North America and used as a thickening agent in place of animal-based products like gelatin, which is extracted from animal bones. Seaweed is boiled to extract the carrageenan, and in that sense, carrageenan is completely ""natural"" and not much different from tomato in its creation.
What Is Taurine and why is it important for my cat's?
Taurine is an essential amino acid for cat's that is found in meat protein. It is a dietary requirement for a good eyesight, heart function, digestion (production of bile salts) and proper reproduction. Taurine is essential in cat's because it is required by the heart and eyes however it is neither manufactured nor available in the body. Therefore, cat's need meat to fulfill this requirement (obligate carnivores), as Taurine is only found in animal proteins such as chicken.
Why does the Advanced Formula, which is recommended for older dog's, have higher protein levels than the Adult Formula?
The advanced is higher in protein than the adult (24 vs. 21%) and is formulated for puppies, active dog's and seniors on the premise that the first 2 groups require higher levels of protein due to increased growth and energy needs and the later because of the decreased intestinal absorption associated with aging.

Yummy and nutritional
By Cowgirlwy on Apr 3, 2019
My dog loves this food. I’ve heard that you should get different food every so often. Once I bought this my dog won’t eat anything else. I like that it has soy, because she has a leaking problem that has cleared up thanks to the soy in this food. Also, I love the fact that all of the profit goes to service dogs! I’d give it 5 paws up, if I had 5 paws!

BEST FOR BIG AND SMALL!!!!
By Green on Jan 29, 2019
I have a giant breed dog, English Mastiff, that it is recommended that I feed a food with less than 1% calcium and less than 1% phosphorous. These dogs need to develop naturally, not bulked up with too much minerals for their bone health, nor too much protein. This food is just right. She free feeds, eats when she wants, and is beautiful from it. I also have a little pug that I also free feed it too and he is just the right weight and beautiful with a soft and lovely coat. They enjoy it and are healthy, can't ask for more from a food. Fantastic!!! I have not found a better food, and have looked long and hard.

Disappointed
By Dia12 on Nov 24, 2018
The food is great, I like the ingredients, my dog likes it and I trust the producer. When I wanted to order more in the 4lb. size it wasn't available so I ordered the 7lb. bag since I was nearly out and couldn't wait until the 1-2 weeks I was told the 4lb would become available. The problem came when I noticed the Best By date of 19 Dec 18 which I take to mean the 19th of December 2018. That's only four weeks from date of delivery. I've learned this product goes rancid 10 months after manufacturing and I know there is a loss of nutrient quality, both things concern me. I'm surprised Chewy, who I also trust, would ship borderline product. Wasteful and disappointing. I hope I'll be able to count on freshness in the future because I really like Chewy and have been pleased with products and service in the past. … more

Dog Loves!
By leolynn on Aug 22, 2018
My dog absolutely loves this food! We needed to switch from grain-free food to a food WITH grains due to heart issues. It's not easy to find "non grain-free" food anymore, so when I saw this on Chewy, I thought we'd try it. Not only is it natural & healthier than sooo many brands out there, but it's actually cheaper than what she was getting! Win-win!!

Don't recommend
By Bearlick on Sep 22, 2018
I gave this brand a try and mixed it in with a previous brand that my dogs had been eating and they both couldn't tolerate it. I had to throw away almost the entire bag

Iam sure the ingredients are great, but my dogs just do not seem to care for the taste of this food.

Dogs love it.
By Mann on Oct 2, 2018
They’re picking it out of the mix and making it difficult to transition them off the old food. I love my pups.

My GSD loves this food. I order 3 bags at a time and have it on auto ship so I never run out. Great product

Amazing product.
By Atticus on Jul 14, 2018
My pups after three years became bored with their dry dog food which was a different brand. I over the course of my life have had nothing but positive experiences with Newman’s products so we gave this product a try. The pups love it and are eating again without issue.
