Whenever there is a change of diet, its advisable to slowly introduce the new food by mixing it into the food currently fed. We recommend mixing Newman’s Own pet foods with your current pet food over a period of approximately 2-3 weeks to guarantee that your dog or cat’s digestive system adjusts to the new food. It is important to remember that Newman’s Own pet food ingredients such as fresh natural chicken and organic brown rice, being whole foods, may be richer and may be more nutritionally concentrated than your current food. We always recommend that you contact your veterinarian if your animal has persistent digestive upsets.

FAQ

Are your pet products thoroughly tested?

Yes. All of our pet products are manufactured to the highest standards of quality control and samples are obtained during each production run for analysis and retention for additional evaluation.

Is there any animal testing involved?

No. The only analytical testing done is in a laboratory where animals are NOT allowed. We do "taste testing" with animals awaiting adoption in a local humane society shelter.

I would like to begin feeding Newman’s Own pet food to my dog and cat. I have read that if this is done too fast that intestinal upsets may result. What are your recommendations?

What are the benefits of feeding organic dog and cat foods?

Feeding organic foods eliminates the buildup of residues of chemical additives, preservatives, pesticides, fertilizers and herbicides which have been clinically proven to have adverse health effects on dog's, cat's and in fact all animals including humans.

Can I mix NewmanS Own canned foods with dry foods?

Yes. Canned foods are a great way to add a little variety and "extra" taste to dry foods.

Why do the dry formulas contain soy?

Soy is an excellent low-fat source of bio-available protein that contains antioxidant compounds and amino acids that boost the immune system and decrease levels of LDL cholesterol. We use organic soybean meal in all our dry food formulas. Our team of veterinarians, including a board-certified veterinary nutritionist, felt that organic soybean meal provided an excellent hypoallergenic and concentrated source of many of the essential micro and macro nutrients that animals can benefit from.

What is carrageenan?

Carrageenan is a seaweed extract common in the Atlantic Ocean near Britain, Continental Europe and North America and used as a thickening agent in place of animal-based products like gelatin, which is extracted from animal bones. Seaweed is boiled to extract the carrageenan, and in that sense, carrageenan is completely "natural" and not much different from tomato in its creation.

What Is Taurine and why is it important for my cat's?

Taurine is an essential amino acid for cat's that is found in meat protein. It is a dietary requirement for a good eyesight, heart function, digestion (production of bile salts) and proper reproduction. Taurine is essential in cat's because it is required by the heart and eyes however it is neither manufactured nor available in the body. Therefore, cat's need meat to fulfill this requirement (obligate carnivores), as Taurine is only found in animal proteins such as chicken.

Why does the Advanced Formula, which is recommended for older dog's, have higher protein levels than the Adult Formula?

The advanced is higher in protein than the adult (24 vs. 21%) and is formulated for puppies, active dog's and seniors on the premise that the first 2 groups require higher levels of protein due to increased growth and energy needs and the later because of the decreased intestinal absorption associated with aging.

    What happened

By Miasdad on Nov 3, 2019

I was purchasing the beef dinner at my local grocery. then it disappeared for a long while. Company said it was a supplier issue. this was the only dog food my shepherd would eat. then it returned after a few months and I noticed chewy had it first so I began purchasing it. much to my dismay; the cans were mostly dented and the contents were like a slushy soup. not like the previous purchases at the grocery. research shows that they are shipped from California to Pennsylvania, then to me in Florida. too much handling and then sitting in the hot fed ex trucks for delivery. too much handling hence all the damage. now to find that this product is from Uruguay, even more handling. My finicky shepherd used to dive into this meal but snubs it most of the time. a few cans remain and then I will not use anymore. I hate the fact that I can no longer support their charities thru my purchases. Good things can only last so long. … more

    Yeah to carrying this product

By Mouse on Oct 2, 2019

Looked everywhere in town for this...most places just have chicken and we wanted beef...dogs are happy and we are happy for them. We support Newman's Mission and our 50 pound dogs are doing well at age 15 from having had Organic Dog food since we adopted them at ages 1 & 2 from the local DAWG Rescue center. Thank you for making this product abailable.

excellent for giving meds, supplement, or everyday meals

    By Littlecowgal47 on Sep 26, 2019

We have 4 collies and they are 11 years old, in excellent health. Their diet has been Newman's Own for 6 years. Now that the kibble is hard to get, I mix this organic beef with our extra morning oatmeal. I'm writing this for people on a real budget who have or want multiple dogs. This is first class canned dog food.

    Rocky's review

By Rocky on Sep 19, 2019

I found the food served in a very appetizing manner. My water bowl was spaced so it was not distracting but comfortably in my sight. My dude warms my food up slightly in the microwave, a nice touch. And the aromas wafted through the kitchen air. They promised wonderful flavors. They were. I love this food. 5 stars. Disappointed

By Cass on Sep 23, 2019

I love Paul Newman’s Chicken and Turkey wet food but the beef was really stinky. It was always out of stock and I was thrilled when I was finally able to order it. I don’t eat beef myself yet my dogs love beef but they truly did not like it either. I will continue to buy the chicken or turkey recipes though.

always a top choice for us

By Cici on Nov 8, 2019

We trust Newman's and our dog likes most flavors. She got tired of the liver, but every other organic flavor has been a winner.

    Puzzled???

    By Tomasa2015 on Jun 24, 2019

Purchased this dog food for my two small dogs they loved it! But I don't know what other kinds of small animals could be chopped into the beef mix. In two cans found small thin bones and in one a tiny piece of a small animal's muzzle. That did it for me regardless of how much my dogs loved it. I am puzzled about the quality. Would love to find another product that tastes so good to my dogs that is not questionable.

    The food is horrible

By Debbie on Aug 16, 2019

You open a new can I have to separate the fat from the beef and once it’s in the refrigerator for a day the fat gets hard. Will never buy Paul Newman food anymore.

    Why is the can smaller?

By TylersMom on Aug 20, 2019

Smaller can, seems to have higher water content and visible fat...won’t buy it again...not a good value. But dogs appreciate the taste.

By Janet on Sep 20, 2019

My dogs love this food, they eat it first before the real chicken that is on their plate!
