Puppy: Feed up to twice the Adult amount to puppies.

Transition Instructions

Whenever there is a change of diet, its advisable to slowly introduce the new food by mixing it into the food currently fed. We recommend mixing Newman’s Own pet foods with your current pet food over a period of approximately 2-3 weeks to guarantee that your dog's digestive system adjusts to the new food. It is important to remember that Newman’s Own pet food ingredients, being whole foods, may be richer and may be more nutritionally concentrated than your current food. We always recommend that you contact your veterinarian if your animal has persistent digestive upsets.

FAQ

Are your pet products thoroughly tested?

Yes. All of our pet products are manufactured to the highest standards of quality control and samples are obtained during each production run for analysis and retention for additional evaluation.

Is there any animal testing involved?

No. The only analytical testing done is in a laboratory where animals are NOT allowed. We do "taste testing" with animals awaiting adoption in a local humane society shelter.

I would like to begin feeding Newman’s Own pet food to my dog and cat. I have read that if this is done too fast that intestinal upsets may result. What are your recommendations?

Whenever there is a change of diet, its advisable to slowly introduce the new food by mixing it into the food currently fed. We recommend mixing Newman’s Own pet foods with your current pet food over a period of approximately 2-3 weeks to guarantee that your dog or cat’s digestive system adjusts to the new food. It is important to remember that Newman’s Own pet food ingredients such as fresh natural chicken and organic brown rice, being whole foods, may be richer and may be more nutritionally concentrated than your current food. We always recommend that you contact your veterinarian if your animal has persistent digestive upsets.

What are the benefits of feeding organic dog and cat foods?

Feeding organic foods eliminates the buildup of residues of chemical additives, preservatives, pesticides, fertilizers and herbicides which have been clinically proven to have adverse health effects on dog's, cat's and in fact all animals including humans.

Can I mix NewmanS Own canned foods with dry foods?

Yes. Canned foods are a great way to add a little variety and "extra" taste to dry foods.

Why do the dry formulas contain soy?

Soy is an excellent low-fat source of bio-available protein that contains antioxidant compounds and amino acids that boost the immune system and decrease levels of LDL cholesterol. We use organic soybean meal in all our dry food formulas. Our team of veterinarians, including a board-certified veterinary nutritionist, felt that organic soybean meal provided an excellent hypoallergenic and concentrated source of many of the essential micro and macro nutrients that animals can benefit from.

What is carrageenan?

Carrageenan is a seaweed extract common in the Atlantic Ocean near Britain, Continental Europe and North America and used as a thickening agent in place of animal-based products like gelatin, which is extracted from animal bones. Seaweed is boiled to extract the carrageenan, and in that sense, carrageenan is completely "natural" and not much different from tomato in its creation.

What Is Taurine and why is it important for my cat's?

Taurine is an essential amino acid for cat's that is found in meat protein. It is a dietary requirement for a good eyesight, heart function, digestion (production of bile salts) and proper reproduction. Taurine is essential in cat's because it is required by the heart and eyes however it is neither manufactured nor available in the body. Therefore, cat's need meat to fulfill this requirement (obligate carnivores), as Taurine is only found in animal proteins such as chicken.

Why does the Advanced Formula, which is recommended for older dog's, have higher protein levels than the Adult Formula?

The advanced is higher in protein than the adult (24 vs. 21%) and is formulated for puppies, active dog's and seniors on the premise that the first 2 groups require higher levels of protein due to increased growth and energy needs and the later because of the decreased intestinal absorption associated with aging.

    Love Newman's Organic Pet Foods

    By on

Wow, organic food for my dog. She loves it, and it is good for her, and the planet. I love that Newman's donates 100% of their profits to charities, $525 million donated since 1982.

    Doggie crack.

    By on

Condor is a greyhound and a particularly picky eater. He will spit out a misshapen kibble. The Sentinel was a monthly battle. No way was he going to just eat the thing and nothing I tried to hide it in worked from peanut butter to cheese. Then we discovered Newman's Own...cut up the Sentinel, mix it with the canned liver and he will scarf it all down. Truly Doggie Crack!

    Love at First Sniff

    By on

My dog is a very picky eater. She sometimes even turns her nose up at fresh roast chicken. After one sniff of this liver, she gobbled it up as fast as she could.

    Funny reaction

    By on

The Dog Journal recommended Paul Newman organic dog food. So I thought I'd try liver. My 2 seniors, 12 and 15 yrs old were the first to try it. The look on their faces was funny as they both sniffed, pulled back rattled, and tried again. No go. Tried again the next night and they gobbled it down. Tried the liver formula with the other 3 dogs and they didn't hesitate. At first I thought I'd have 11 cans unused but looks like I won't and reordering again.

Finally a food my dog can eat!.

    By on

My Jack Russell puppy is allergic to just about everything. Corn, peas, salmon, lamb, rice, potatoes, and wheat. All of this is in just about everything in one form or another. Finally there is a soft food he not only can eat but he loves it! I mix it with a bit of hard food and the bowl is always licked clean!
