Transition Instructions

Whenever there is a change of diet, its advisable to slowly introduce the new food by mixing it into the food currently fed. We recommend mixing Newman’s Own pet foods with your current pet food over a period of approximately 2-3 weeks to guarantee that your dog's digestive system adjusts to the new food. It is important to remember that Newman’s Own pet food ingredients, being whole foods, may be richer and may be more nutritionally concentrated than your current food. We always recommend that you contact your veterinarian if your animal has persistent digestive upsets.

FAQ

Are your pet products thoroughly tested?

Yes. All of our pet products are manufactured to the highest standards of quality control and samples are obtained during each production run for analysis and retention for additional evaluation.

Is there any animal testing involved?

No. The only analytical testing done is in a laboratory where animals are NOT allowed. We do ""taste testing"" with animals awaiting adoption in a local humane society shelter.

I would like to begin feeding Newman’s Own pet food to my dog and cat. I have read that if this is done too fast that intestinal upsets may result. What are your recommendations?

Whenever there is a change of diet, its advisable to slowly introduce the new food by mixing it into the food currently fed. We recommend mixing Newman’s Own pet foods with your current pet food over a period of approximately 2-3 weeks to guarantee that your dog or cat’s digestive system adjusts to the new food. It is important to remember that Newman’s Own pet food ingredients such as fresh natural chicken and organic brown rice, being whole foods, may be richer and may be more nutritionally concentrated than your current food. We always recommend that you contact your veterinarian if your animal has persistent digestive upsets.

Can I mix NewmanS Own canned foods with dry foods?

Yes. Canned foods are a great way to add a little variety and ""extra"" taste to dry foods.

Why do the dry formulas contain soy?

Soy is an excellent low-fat source of bio-available protein that contains antioxidant compounds and amino acids that boost the immune system and decrease levels of LDL cholesterol. We use organic soybean meal in all our dry food formulas. Our team of veterinarians, including a board-certified veterinary nutritionist, felt that organic soybean meal provided an excellent hypoallergenic and concentrated source of many of the essential micro and macro nutrients that animals can benefit from.

What is carrageenan?

Carrageenan is a seaweed extract common in the Atlantic Ocean near Britain, Continental Europe and North America and used as a thickening agent in place of animal-based products like gelatin, which is extracted from animal bones. Seaweed is boiled to extract the carrageenan, and in that sense, carrageenan is completely ""natural"" and not much different from tomato in its creation.

What Is Taurine and why is it important for my cat's?

Taurine is an essential amino acid for cat's that is found in meat protein. It is a dietary requirement for a good eyesight, heart function, digestion (production of bile salts) and proper reproduction. Taurine is essential in cat's because it is required by the heart and eyes however it is neither manufactured nor available in the body. Therefore, cat's need meat to fulfill this requirement (obligate carnivores), as Taurine is only found in animal proteins such as chicken.

Why does the Advanced Formula, which is recommended for older dog's, have higher protein levels than the Adult Formula?

The advanced is higher in protein than the adult (24 vs. 21%) and is formulated for puppies, active dog's and seniors on the premise that the first 2 groups require higher levels of protein due to increased growth and energy needs and the later because of the decreased intestinal absorption associated with aging.

    So far so good

    By on

My 9 year old poodle was very ill with breathing problems, emaciated, diarrhea. The vet recommended Hill's Prescription i/d, which made a huge difference, but the ingredients and the odor of the food did not please me, and my dog wasn't very enthusiastic either. After much research I chose Newman's with grain but no legumes (which, I am convinced, she is allergic to and may have caused her breathing difficulties). We transitioned to Newman's Turkey and Chicken, and so far so good. The poodle loves it. She back in the game as far as energy, confidence, endurance, and muscle mass. I also appreciate the fact that it smells like people food.

Nothing but the best for Spencer

    By on

As always Newman's Own canned dog food is healthy for dogs. Spencer goes to the bottom of the dish and there's no greater review than that! As always, Chewy is a company that cares and they also deliver in a matter of one or two days. We love Chewy.

    Our dogs love this

    By on

Started feeding this food after feeding a new adoptee emergency care vet prescribed can food. I wanted something healthy and because im trying to cut back to keep him at heathy weight also wanted to give him something he really likes. This does the trick but was 3.00 a can in local stores. Here buying it by the case was a savings. I feed it sparlingly a heapung tablespoon with small kibble and mixed with green beans makes a well balanced meal and has fiber and keeps weight level. I cpuld stand more of a discount but thanks to chewy i can manage feeding my dogs the best. The food you feed your pets are key to lessen diseases. Its just that simple.

I love the consistency of this product.

    By on

Because I have two very picky senior dogs, I need to mix moist food with their dry kibble. This product is perfect for that! And my boys seem to like this canned food better than the million others I have fed them. I do have to change up the flavors as they seem to get tired of the same thing two many days in a row. I know...they are terribly spoiled!

2 year old doxie loves it

    By on

We've been trying to find a good food to replace a brand we used to use that changed their formula. Gave this a try and our doxie loves it. It's a pate, but doesn't get overly hard in the fridge, which is nice. It's organic with only healthy ingredients, which is very important to us, and best of all, it's priced very affordable. We've tried several brands trying to find what works best for her, and Newmans Own is the clear winner.
