I originally purchased this puzzle toy for my five-year-old husky mix, and he loved it from the start! My mom's dog, a seven-year-old Heinz 57 of a mutt, also loves it. But the best part is that my three-year-old cat, after having watched both dogs take some turns, wanted a try. He was a little hesitant of the spinning fins at first, but soon he got the hang of it, and now he gets his treatos out if it as well! Suffice it to say that "playing treato game" is a new favorite pasttime of all four-legged members and guests of this house!
We LOVE this puzzle, however I have to deduct a star because it doesn't match the color shown in the photo at all. I had gotten it because my super chewer boy had destroyed our similar puzzle that was more of a cork material, and I was looking for purple themed gifts for my girl's birthday. I was pretty disappointed when it arrived and the only thing purple about it was the box. It's a deep blue, nothing like the lilac color shown. That being said, my pups really enjoy it. Yes it is a quick solve as others have said (you can add an extra challenge by putting treats in the holes of the circular pieces), but it's still a great mental stimulation activity! We usually play a few games in a row and they have a lot of fun.
I tried finding the most challenging game using description and reviews. My dog still figured this out in seconds. Fun to watch, but need something more challenging for sure. Giving 3 stars and not more because the description indicated it was more challenging but no less than 3 because it does appear to be super fun for dogs that are more timid and it seems like it would hold up well. While only used once so far, my dog does enjoy using his teeth, paws, nose and anything else to get to his favorite treats. I didn't notice any indication the pieces would fall off.
I got my guys another Nina puzzle that did not go over. Tried again with this one and the one BC likes it. Multiple actions and sequences to get the treat if you load it right (see back of box) Other dog not as interested, but as it was a Deal I send one to my sister and her drop enjoys.
This treat game has turned into a nightly tradition for our puppy. It keeps her entertained and rewards her with a treat if she can figure out how to get to it. She has become very smart and can get the treats quickly while having fun. Good for young beginner dogs.
My Dobie puppy has beaten ALL of the Nina Ottosson puzzles in a matter of seconds (the Expert puzzle is our favorite - it took him 28 seconds to empty the first time, but it still slows him down enough to keep him from barring up his kibble!) However, my indoor Bengal cat is OBSESSED with his Hide n’ Slide and is now happily working on his first level 3 puzzle, so I plan to pass the Hide n’ Slide onto my 2.5-year-old parrot. I LOVE that this particular puzzle is all one sturdy piece so it would be hard for any pet to eat the puzzle itself under supervision. Really excellent quality for the price!
My doodle puppies took to this much better than the wobble toys. I use this for most of their meals, takes them about 10 minutes to each everything. Also good quality construction, not plastic.
I have golden retrievers and my nine month old is very smart and at an age where she is sometimes getting into trouble from all the curiosity. We have several puzzles from this manufacturer. My dogs figured this one out immediately, but still love it. I consider this one on the east side. The sliders and rotating pieces move easily and engage them. I have to play a few rounds if I am using about one cup of dog food as the compartments are small on this one. I do recommend it.
This puzzle has been a great way for my high anxiety Boston to burn off nervous energy when the weather is too cold for long walks. Just challenging enough to keep him engaged without being frustrating. The chunky construction is easy for brachy dogs to manipulate. He gets so excited to play with this that after two or three rounds he needs a nap. There are no loose pieces. The only downside is it is a little tricky to clean but definitely worth it.
Got this for my Golden Retriever puppy and she loves it! She figured it out pretty fast but it still keeps her entertained for a few minutes and she is so excited anytime I fill it up for her. It's sturdy and doesn't slide around.
