These supplements had the opposite effect of calming on my dog and made her aggressive. Our dog does have anxiety issues and it comes out as protective of our home. Mostly this just results in her barking at neighbors passing by. We recently had a baby and she has gotten more protective and anxious about when we leave the house and anyone visiting. The triggering event was when we left for the hospital. We have been working with her anxieties after coming home and thought this calming supplement might help. It definitely did not and she experienced trauma regression. After just 1/2 dose (1 chew) she became very sleepy as expected. Unfortunately she also was a bit disoriented and became aggressive. She was so disoriented and aggressive that she didn’t recognize me and bit me. This is the first time she has bitten anyone and it was super concerning. I’ve previously give her the “cognitive” only supplements and she did well with those. The melatonin or calming elements of the supplement are possibly too strong or don’t have the same calming effect on all dogs. I definitely don’t recommend this supplement.
So my dog wouldn’t eat these, I covered them in peanut butter and ham and she would just suck the peanut butter or ham off and spit out the treat however, I crushed it up and put it in her wet food and she didn’t seem to notice. The effects I haven’t noticed yet, but I’ll edit if I see no change or noticeable change :)
Great Product for aging dogs. All of the great benefits of Advanced calming with added brain support.
I think it’s helping a little but some nights she still up making noise and shuffling around aimlessly
Good prices and quick shipping. Will definitely order again.
We are not sure this is doing anything for our Pup who has dementia other then putting him to sleep. They are calming but make him almost comatose. We were looking for some thing to help with his cognitive function but not put him to sleep all day.
My vet recommended I try this product. My dog likes it; it may take a few weeks to see if it helps cognitive abilities. I thought I would try it.
Unfortunately , I did not read the ingredients carefully. Most of the calming herbs are advised against for dogs who have seizures. I thought it might help Beamer’s thunder phobia but as he has seizures, I can’t use it. I’ll have to give this Zesty Paws formula to another dog person. My own fault. Just be more careful than I was reading the label.
I have a 15 year old Lhasa Apso who has developed dementia and arthritis over the past couple of years. He tends to sundown at night and gets very whiny and paces in circles. After giving him one of these treats he settles down within a few minutes. It’s been really hard watching my dog get older but these treats have helped to make him a lot more comfortable!
This product, combined with a couple more, improved the quality of life for our senior English lab. Starsky was a rescue so we don't know his exact age, but we are estimating about 12-14. Up until the last year, he was still able to run (slowly) and get around pretty well. We started Starsky on veterinary chiropractic and acupuncture treatments to help alleviate his arthritis symptoms, and that is really helpful. Our ortho vet recommended high potency fish oil pills, and these are actually made for people, but dogs can take them, too (made by Nordic Naturals). We also started Starsky on a product that we order from Chewy, Nutramax Dasuquin with MSM Soft Chews Joint Supplement, plus the Zesty Paws Calming and Cognition Bites to help with his sundowners symptoms. Sundowner syndrome is a potential side-effect of taking Rimadyl, so I'm hoping to eventually be able to take him off Rimadyl, with vet approval. Starsky still follows us around from room to room, asks for treats and pets, greets guests when they come to our house, and shows signs of having some quality of life. As long as we still see that light in his eyes and a smile on his face, we will keep him here with us and as comfortable as possible, until that day comes when he lets us know he's ready.
