Is the bottle plastic or glass?
Answer by ChewyMar 18, 2021
Nordic Naturals packages their liquid pet products in glass bottles, which are not only unsurpassed for preserving freshness and purity, but also are recyclable.

I just noticed I’m supposed to refrigerate after opening. I haven’t been doing this after almost finishing the 16-oz size. Could this cause burping with my dog? Any side effects or adverse reactions from not refrigerating opened product?
Answer by ChewyDec 08, 2020
While this liquid product must be refrigerated once opened and used within 90 days, this is not the cause of any "fish burps", repeating, etc. These common side effects are related almost exclusively to one of two things; The first is manufacturing. Most fish oils are manufactured in the Ethyl Ester (EE) form. This is not bad however in the EE form the fish oil is not as absorbed by the body thus resulting in these common side effects - this is why most people associate the "fish burps" with fish oil. Nordic Naturals products, including their Pet Line, are manufactured in the superior Triglyceride (TG) form. In this form the fish oil is 70% more absorbed thus almost completely eliminating these common side effects. That said, the second cause can simply be sensitive digestion. Some pets (and humans) simply have a sensitive stomach to fish oils which could still cause some of these side effects like "fish burps". Something to try would be giving the pet less fish oil. Try giving the pet a greatly reduced size of the recommended serving for a few days then slowly build up to the regular serving size. Alternatively sometimes giving 1 or 2 smaller servings a day may help rather than the regular serving once a day.

How is this product distilled?
Answer by ChewyDec 22, 2017
Nordic Naturals fish oils are distilled for purity, using the latest distillation technology, to effectively remove potentially harmful environmental toxins. All of their oils are third-party tested by independent laboratories to verify the removal of heavy metals and over 210 environmental contaminants. The analysis is based on the toxicity equivalent methodology established by the World Health Organization (WHO). Nordic Naturals fish oils are guaranteed to have no detectable levels of lead, mercury, dioxins, or PCBs in accordance with the limits set by the Norwegian Medicinal Standards (NMS), European Pharmacopoeia Standards (EPS), Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN), and (WHO).

The Nordic Naturals, are the ingredients the same for the small breed dogs (2 oz) and the medium 8 oz bottle, for medium dogs? I ask because the 2 oz size is quite small and doesn't last long. Thanks. Dave
Answer by ChewyJan 06, 2021
All three-product sizes are the same product formulation. Nordic Naturals pet products are specially formulated for both dogs and cats. The only difference between this supplement and the one for small breeds is the bottle size. Larger breed dogs require more while smaller breed dogs don't require as much. It's recommended to refrigerate and use within three months after opening.

A little messy but my dog likes it!

I wish there was an easier way to dispense this fish oil. It's hard to measure, and as someone mentioned in another review, the bottle always gets drips on the outside. Also REFRIGERATE AFTER OPENING should be more apparent and noticeable. See photo (if it is there, I tried to attach it). I would still purchase this product anyway, because my doggie likes it, and this company makes good quality fish oil.

Excellent Fish Oil

Radar's cardiologist highly recommended this brand because it was better for his heart. She said other fish oils were lacking.

My dog likes it

I ordered this because my vet recommended this brand and supplement due to my dogs nails cracking. It works pretty well and my dog really likes it. She is an 80 pound german shepherd and gets ½ a teaspoon daily because if I give her the recommended amount she starts farting really bad. It did take a little longer to work due to having to give her less than the recommended amount.

Bottle broke during shiping

There are 2 problems with this product. 1. The bottle is glass and it broke during shipping and the oily liquid saturated all the other items in the shipment including the box. 2. It makes a mess when you dispense the product. There is no eyedropper or squirt dispenser. However, my 3 dogs liked the taste, so I gave it 2 stars.

Too messy, a lot of waste

I appreciate that this omega 3 is in a glass bottle but it really needs a pump or spout. My dog needs 2.5 teaspoons which is not only difficult to measure but a lot gets left behind in the spoon. It also drips all down the bottle making a mess. For the price I think too much is getting wasted and I will be trying a different brand next time.

Great product for allergies

Snowflake does good with this product. Her coat is softer and fells so much better. Her allergies have gotten better and she has stopped itching.

Makes coats shine!

I had purchased this product for 2 reasons, 1 because my dog had dry, flaky skin and 2 because he has pollen allergies. I've been adding a 1/4 teaspoon of oil to his kibble once a day (he weighs 12 pounds) for almost 2 weeks now. And after this short period of time his coat has a very glossy sheen and is really soft! I am totally impressed with the shine on his fur and no more dry flaky skin! I am hoping the added omega's will help with his endless itching, I had heard it takes about a month to see improvement. Even if he keeps scratching, I will continue with this product because his coat is just fabulous!

The dogs say yum!

After hours of research I was convinced this is the best fish oil for my dogs. I don’t yet know if it’s helping arthritis and triglycerides but is sure helping in getting the bowls licked clean!
