The amount of food your cat needs will vary depending on breed, activity level, age and climate. Use our feeding chart as a guide, adjusting the quantity fed to achieve your cat’s ideal weight. We suggest feeding twice a day. Provide fresh, clean water at all times. Love, attention, playtime and chin scratches should be given freely, as often as possible.
It’s important to slowly transition your pet to a new food so their system has a chance to adapt to the change. The transition period should be at minimum, 10 days and could take upwards of 2 weeks, depending on your pet’s sensitivity to change: On day one, introduce 10% new food / 90% old food. Keep the food at this ratio for 2 or more days. Next, increase the ratio to 20% new food / 80% old food for 2 or more days. Repeat increasing in increments of 10% until you’re feeding 100% of the new food. If your pet experiences any kind of digestive upset during this time, try slowing down the process to let his/her digestive tract adjust to the new food. Some vomiting and/or diarrhea can be normal when introducing new foods as the digestive process and the naturally occurring bacteria your pet’s body requires is a complex and delicate system. If you experience any vomiting and/or diarrhea, be sure to reduce the amount of new food the next time you feed and overall, slow the whole transition period down even more.
All of our fresh meat and meat meal ingredients are sourced from animals passed fit for human consumption by the CFIA. The fruits and vegetables used in our recipes also come from the human food chain. We do not, however, claim that our ingredients are “human-grade”; once an individual ingredient leaves a “human-grade” processing facility and enters a “pet food” processor, the ingredient loses its “human-grade” classification.
A certified organic ingredient provides a guarantee that the ingredient has met strict government standards for how food is grown, handled and processed; using organic agricultural methods. Organic agriculture focuses on farming practices that encourage soil and water conservation and regeneration, and reduces pollution. Organic farmers use natural fertilizers and pest control methods to benefit the soil, plants and animals for a healthy environment. For more information on Pet Food Certifications read our blog here.
Petcurean dry pet foods are produced in Ontario, Canada. Our canned products are primarily produced in Ontario, Canada and secondarily at a plant in New Jersey, USA. Our SPIKE Jerky Treats are manufactured in Gainsville, Georgia and our SPIKE Treat Bars are made in Brampton, Ontario. We are 100% China free for processing and ingredient sourcing. No. Glutens from wheat and rice protein concentrate are an inferior source of protein and we prefer to use only premium sources of protein (in the form of meat, poultry and fish).
Fresh meat is converted into a meat meal by a third party using a cooking process. This process removes the water from the meat and allows pet food manufacturers to add meat meal as a dry ingredient. Meat meals are used in pet food to ensure a finished pet food kibble which is high in quality protein and more nutrient dense (since it takes 3 to 5 lbs of fresh meat to produce 1 lb of meal). In addition, meat meals have an increased shelf life as compared to fresh meat. Other manufacturers may use preservatives such as ethoxyquin, BHA and BHT on meat between slaughter and the processing plant, which may not be listed on a food’s ingredient panel. At Petcurean, however, we ensure all of our meat meals are not preserved with ethoxyquin, BHA or BHT between slaughter and processing and require all of our suppliers and partners to use natural preservatives (Vitamin E). Petcurean only uses ‘named’ meat meals (such as chicken meal) in our foods as these meals are of higher quality protein source and are made only from muscle meats and bone. Alternative meat meal sources (by-product meals and un-named
My 14 year old cat was recently diagnosed with kidney disease. My first step was to transition over to a lower phosphorous, lower sodium dry food. This fit the bill. And my cat loves it. Then I started to introduce her to wet foods and transition her to eating more wet food than dry with each meal because that's wet food is best for her disease. This food gets 5 stars because of its clean ingredient list, lower phosphorous and sodium levels, small kibble size and apparently, good taste. Would recommend it to any pet parents who are in a similar boat as me.
We switched from kitten food to this for one cat and we needed a food low in phosphorus for another one of our cats who keeps eating the other cats food. Ace loves it and it is really good quality. Pricey but at least a prescription is not required.
My cat is loving this food, he meows li,like, crazy when it's feeding time
This food is a 5 star for me because it is the only food my extremely finicky 15 year old cat will eat and it also irritates her stomach less than other foods I've tried. At this point I've tried over 20 other dry and wet foods including special vet diets, everything else she turns her nose up at and/or is extremely allergic to. Please never discontinue this.
I have 2 Peterbalds with sensitive and complicated GI issues. It's a given with their breed but not with this food! This foods so good! 0 issues with their tummy's , poops , vomiting and they beg for more! They love the taste and the ingredients make Mama happy
I attempted to switch my cat over to this food from Science Diet Weight Control. He has been overweight for a few years and I've been trying diligently to get his weight under control. As a new Chewy member, I wanted to try a different food and this seemed very appealing. After slowly introducing this food and a few months later, my cat just won't eat this stuff. He sits by the full dish all day begging for more until I give him a scoop of his old food. So although I appreciate the ingredients and what this food has to offer, I'm ultimately disappointed in now having an entire bag of cat food that I cannot use.
My 10 year old was diagnosed with early CKD, vet had recommended Royal Canin or Hills renal diet. I follow Beagle Freedom Project and use their Cruelty Cutter app to stay away from animal testing, and both of these brands test on animals, not to mention, the ingredients are junk. I joined Feline Chronic Kidney Disease FB group to see if I could get some opinions and help, and let me tell you, this group is full of knowledgeable folks. Now I’m not insulting or undermining the vet, but most vets believe in traditional medicine, and follow a algorithm. My kitties early CKD was found incidentally on routine labs, creatinine was 2, all other labs were normal, so I’m hoping to stave progression by feeding him low phosphorus foods. I learned that most of the Weruva wet food I’ve been feeding him was also considered low phosphorus. I also started him on two supplements; Kidney Restore & Kidney Shield, and started giving him wet food twice a day instead of once. My plan is to recheck his labs in 6 months to see if this trial works. Long story short, my cat likes this food. I like that the kibble is smaller for sensitive teeth, and I like that the ingredients are minimally processed and include omegas and superfoods.
I have 8 cats, our vet recommended that I feed them a non-chicken food, which is almost impossible to find. This is the 2nd food we’ve tried and they do like it better, so I’m going to give it some more time.
Perfect for my formerly feral cat wit digestive issues and he loves it.
We needed a low phosphorus food for our cat with early kidney disease. The vet said he didn’t need prescription food yet, but a low phosphorus diet now will help. Both cats love this Now Fresh food, which makes it so much easier to feed them the same things. While wet food is better, they both love dry as well and we have a hard time getting enough calories with wet only. This food has been a blessing for us, it has lots of real ingredients so we didn’t feel bad switching from their old diet. I wish more adult and senior foods were low phosphorus since kidney disease is so common in cats.
