The amount of food your cat needs will vary depending on breed, activity level, age and climate. Use our feeding chart as a guide, adjusting the quantity fed to achieve your cat’s ideal weight. We suggest feeding twice a day. Provide fresh, clean water at all times. Love, attention, playtime and chin scratches should be given freely, as often as possible.
It’s important to slowly transition your pet to a new food so their system has a chance to adapt to the change. The transition period should be at minimum, 10 days and could take upwards of 2 weeks, depending on your pet’s sensitivity to change: On day one, introduce 10% new food / 90% old food. Keep the food at this ratio for 2 or more days. Next, increase the ratio to 20% new food / 80% old food for 2 or more days. Repeat increasing in increments of 10% until you’re feeding 100% of the new food. If your pet experiences any kind of digestive upset during this time, try slowing down the process to let his/her digestive tract adjust to the new food. Some vomiting and/or diarrhea can be normal when introducing new foods as the digestive process and the naturally occurring bacteria your pet’s body requires is a complex and delicate system. If you experience any vomiting and/or diarrhea, be sure to reduce the amount of new food the next time you feed and overall, slow the whole transition period down even more.
Are the ingredients used in Petcurean products “human-grade”?
All of our fresh meat and meat meal ingredients are sourced from animals passed fit for human consumption by the CFIA. The fruits and vegetables used in our recipes also come from the human food chain. We do not, however, claim that our ingredients are “human-grade”; once an individual ingredient leaves a “human-grade” processing facility and enters a “pet food” processor, the ingredient loses its “human-grade” classification.
What is an organic ingredient?
A certified organic ingredient provides a guarantee that the ingredient has met strict government standards for how food is grown, handled and processed; using organic agricultural methods. Organic agriculture focuses on farming practices that encourage soil and water conservation and regeneration, and reduces pollution. Organic farmers use natural fertilizers and pest control methods to benefit the soil, plants and animals for a healthy environment. For more information on Pet Food Certifications read our blog here.
Where are your products made?
Petcurean dry pet foods are produced in Ontario, Canada. Our canned products are primarily produced in Ontario, Canada and secondarily at a plant in New Jersey, USA. Our SPIKE Jerky Treats are manufactured in Gainsville, Georgia and our SPIKE Treat Bars are made in Brampton, Ontario. We are 100% China free for processing and ingredient sourcing. None of our meat proteins, grains, cereals, fruits and vegetables in any of our recipes are processed in China, and none of our ingredients are sourced in China.
Do you use wheat gluten, or rice protein concentrate in any of your recipes?
No. Glutens from wheat and rice protein concentrate are an inferior source of protein and we prefer to use only premium sources of protein (in the form of meat, poultry and fish).
What is a meal (i.e. chicken meal)?
Fresh meat is converted into a meat meal by a third party using a cooking process. This process removes the water from the meat and allows pet food manufacturers to add meat meal as a dry ingredient. Meat meals are used in pet food to ensure a finished pet food kibble which is high in quality protein and more nutrient dense (since it takes 3 to 5 lbs of fresh meat to produce 1 lb of meal). In addition, meat meals have an increased shelf life as compared to fresh meat. Other manufacturers may use preservatives such as ethoxyquin, BHA and BHT on meat between slaughter and the processing plant, which may not be listed on a food’s ingredient panel. At Petcurean, however, we ensure all of our meat meals are not preserved with ethoxyquin, BHA or BHT between slaughter and processing and require all of our suppliers and partners to use natural preservatives (Vitamin E). Petcurean only uses ‘named’ meat meals (such as chicken meal) in our foods as these meals are of higher quality protein source and are made only from muscle meats and bone. Alternative meat meal sources (by-product meals and un-named

Best Cat Food I have found
By Monyhony on Feb 22, 2021
I think this is some of the best no grain high-protein cat food you can find. My two cats love it. They control their weight because it’s not loaded with fillers. My vet always complement me on how healthy my cats are.

Great for senior cats
By Cluck on Jan 27, 2021
We have 9 cats, mostly seniors. Some have sensitive tummies; some need to lose some weight; and they all free feed. They all love this food.

Perfect Food
By Boltz on Nov 13, 2020
In the past, I was a certified pet nutritionist and Percuran (who makes Now) has always been one of my favorites. Canadian foods have higher standards than most countries and this line of food had great ingredients and they aren't too rich to make my cats sensitive. I have three cats and one was feral in his past. His coat has improved so much since being on this food. Love it.

Cat has been vomiting
By Thejordanks on Sep 13, 2020
My cat has a stomach of steel. He eats some very questionable things, much to my dismay, and is fine. I usually feed him Fromm, but decided to give this a try. He does seem to like it, he likes variety in his diet (he even steals our dog’s food) but since trying this he’s thrown up 3-4 times in the last few days. I’ve been doing a gradual transition, but the more of this he gets, the sicker he seems to be. I’m cutting it out today. He seems to love the flavor, he wants to eat it, but his stomach has other plans.

Great Dry Food

This dry food includes great ingredients, but the pellets are a bit difficult for my smaller cat to chew.

NOT A WINNER FOR US
By dfin on Jul 17, 2020
I put a bowl of this and a bowl of Farmina out as a taste test. Luckily I bought small bags so this taste test wasn’t the end of us financially. The Now was untouched! Yes. I had hoped that this would be a winner because of the size. Our feeder never works because kibble always gets stuck. But NO. Our little black cat licked her wet food bowl clean and ate the competitors brand. Left this one untouched. Guess the local wildlife will be snacking well later.

Not added fillers like many other brands
By Kiki on Jun 12, 2020
Not added fillers like most other brands. If you do some research about good elements for feline health this one is top-of-the-line in terms of the nutrient load. My cat loves it, and the bag has an almost Velcro like closing which helps keep it really fresh in the bag. Highly recommend.

High quality cat food
By jaylee on Apr 27, 2020
My cats love this food. I give them a bit of wet food 2x a day, and then they always have this dry food available in a self feeder. My overweight cat is now at a healthy weight, even though he can eat whenever he feels like it.

Good ingredients but...
By Lori on Feb 18, 2020
The crew seemed to like this food at first so I then bought the large bag, that was a mistake, they were vomiting within a week nonstop. Maybe the ingredients are too good.
