The amount of food your dog needs will vary depending on breed, activity level, age and climate. Use our feeding chart as a guide, adjusting the quantity fed to achieve your dog’s ideal weight. We suggest feeding twice a day. Provide fresh, clean water at all times. Regular exercise will help maintain a healthy body weight. Love, attention and tummy rubs should be given freely, as often as possible.
It’s important to slowly transition your pet to a new food so their system has a chance to adapt to the change. The transition period should be at minimum, ten days and could take upwards of two weeks, depending on your pet’s sensitivity to change:
Day 1 & 2: Feed 80% of your pet’s old food with 20% of the new food.
Day 3 & 4: Feed 60% of your pet’s old food with 40% of the new food.
Day 5 & 6: Feed 40% of your pet’s old food with 60% of the new food.
Day 7, 8 & 9: Feed 20% of your pet’s old food with 80% of the new food.
Day 10 & Forever: Feed 100% new food

Great for Danes
By Danemom on Feb 1, 2019
My dane loves this, her coat is beautiful after switching. Looks like they've slightly shrunk the size of their kibble. Still good size for large breeds, great ingredients.

I have been looking for a large breed dry dog food with a bigger kibble and this fit the bill, but to expensive for 2 adult mastiffs.

Excellent Kibble for GSD
By DinaKouveliotes on May 31, 2018 Top 250 Contributor
This kibble I’ve been feeding for 4 years on rotation for my GSD. She has a sensitive stomach and can not tolerate high protein, super high fat, whole prey ingredient lists or packed with peas/lentils. I exclusively feed grain free, this is one of two brands I use. This food she seems to consistently digest well, which is great. There are higher protein foods that are very good if your dog can tolerate, but I have had the most success with this and one other brand. The kibble is really big, I spray warm water over to slightly moisten in case she decides to try to inhale...but with this size kibble she’s pretty much forced to chew. She is very food driven and if it takes more than 90 seconds This kibble I’ve been feeding for 4 years on rotation for my GSD. There are higher protein foods that are very good if your dog can tolerate, but I have had the most success with this and one other brand. The kibble is really big, I spray warm water over to slightly moisten in case she decides to try to inhale...but with this size kibble she’s pretty much forced to chew. She is very food driven and if it takes more than 90 seconds for her to eat I start to think she’s sick ;) I feed 1 cup 3x a day, plus supplemental food like eggs, salmon, coconut oil..and peanut butter as treat and the obligatory daily Greenie that she waits for before bedtime. She’s 26” at withers and I keep her at 80lbs because I’m concerned that she’s the size of a male GSD, so make sure under her fluff I can still feel ribs under just a light layer of fat...tend to feed less in the summer and the most when snowing, her favorite weather. Good food, can’t go wrong. Price point is higher, however once she stopped growing I was able to cut back significantly on kibble with her staying an ideal weight. I pay the price for ethically sourced ingredients, complete transparency on where ingredients originate from, where food is manufactured and stellar history with no recalls to my knowledge. Cannot put a price on the health of our canine companions IMO, and large breeds have shorter lifespan, so it’s so important to feed quality foods and if not homemade, from a very trusted brand with low to no recalls and knowing where and how it’s made. I favor the small companies, not all their foods worked for my dog but doesn’t mean the food isn’t excellent. My short list is Petcurean, Farmina, Orijen Canadian manufacturered, have heard Annamet and Victor are good brands, but have not used, and Fromm is a great lower price alternative but didn’t agree with my dog, but my cats do very well with their food - they had one minor recall in i think over 40 years, it was discrepancy in vitamin amount in canned food, minor... It’s a delicate balance finding the right food that is right for your pet that is an affordable price point relative to budget. I spend less on food for myself than my pets. … more

I haven’t given this dog food to my Newfoundland yet. I am letting him try the other food first, then we will give him this food to see which one he like the best and how his coat looks.

will not eat
By Chai on Jul 9, 2018
i wish i could give better rating. The food pieces are big (almost a treat size) and none of my two dogs will eat much of it. They will pick few and leave the rest even with toppings.

Best Kibble for large dogs
By Bill on Jul 27, 2018
Our Newfoundlands and Mastiffs love Now’s large breed food. Larger size ensure they chew their food and eat slower. Well balanced and has taurine.

Kibbles are large enough to use as treats.
By MtnVu on May 23, 2018
We use NOW Grain-Free Large Breed Adult Recipe Dry Dog Food for our lab's treats. The kibbles are large and he enjoys them. We feel the quality is better and cheaper than buying individual packages of dog treats. We feed our dog Wellness Core Grain-Free Orginal for his everyday food.

Great food
By Jbauer87 on Apr 16, 2018
My 3yr old Rottie has a severe food allergy to chicken, so even any cross contamination while the food is being processed will cause him to have an reaction, on top of a very sensitive stomach. This food has been great. At first I thought he didn't like it but then I realized he just wasn't used to the bigger pieces. He has no problem chowing it down now. With the bigger pieces he eats slower which has help reduce his acid reflux.
