The amount of food your dog needs will vary depending on breed, activity level, age and climate. Use our feeding chart as a guide, adjusting the quantity fed to achieve your dog’s ideal weight. We suggest feeding twice a day. Provide fresh, clean water at all times. Regular exercise will help maintain a healthy body weight. Love, attention and tummy rubs should be given freely, as often as possible.

Transition Instructions

It’s important to slowly transition your pet to a new food so their system has a chance to adapt to the change. The transition period should be at minimum, ten days and could take upwards of two weeks, depending on your pet’s sensitivity to change:

Day 1 & 2: Feed 80% of your pet’s old food with 20% of the new food.

Day 3 & 4: Feed 60% of your pet’s old food with 40% of the new food.

Day 5 & 6: Feed 40% of your pet’s old food with 60% of the new food.

Day 7, 8 & 9: Feed 20% of your pet’s old food with 80% of the new food.

Day 10 & Forever: Feed 100% new food

We have a slightly chunky senior teacup Yorkie who would eat 24 hours a day if we let her. She is an emotional support animal for my husband and has become the center of our universe now that we are both older. But she gains weight at the drop of a hat. She'd literally eat herself to death if we let her. So I was looking for a lower calorie, healthier diet for her so she could eat enough to feel full but not gain weight. I read reviews until my eyes bled. She can be a little bit of a picky eater; so when I decided to order this and feed it to her, she turned up her nose at it for about a day. Then she plowed into it and it's by far her favorite food. I think it was more an emotional protest than We have a slightly chunky senior teacup Yorkie who would eat 24 hours a day if we let her. I can feed her the same amounts of this food as I was of the other food and she doesn't gain weight. Yay! It lasts a long time, seems to stay fresh, and travels well, since we fly a lot.....with her in hand. So I highly recommend this product! … more

  • Really small kibble

    By on

I have a small Boston Terrier mix rescue and thought a small breed kibble would be good for her. This kibble, however, is really tiny and after this bag will switch back to regular size kibble. I do love the “now fresh” ingredients and quality of their product.

  • Martha loves this food!

In addition, her weight seems to have come down a bit and she looks very healthy. Same amount of food as before yet she is keeping a trim fit figure, especially for an older pug!

  • Finicky Chihuahua Approved

I couldn't believe how my chi's went after this food. As soon as I opened the bag I put some in my hand and they were going after it like it was a treat. They are both 12 and this is super easy for them to eat as well. It's only been a few weeks but I can tell that they are much springier and are not chewing at themselves so much. I couldn't be happier.

  • Doesn't Help with Weight Management

    By on

We were trying to find a new food once Fromm left Chewy. There are very few weight management foods that are grain free and even fewer that are not all chicken. This one seems to fit the need but my dog has been on it for a little over a week and she seems to be putting on weight, not using it. We do not even come close to the recommended amount to feed on the side of the bag (per our vet-these are grossly inaccurate). We will keep searching. The dog did like the food but just not what we need to keep her lean and trim.

  • Perfect Small Breed Recipe

Senior small breed dry food is ideal for our mini schnauzers. Healthy and easy to chew the small Kibbles. I selected Chewy since I couldn't resist the promotional offer. Do hope such offers will continue in the future. Chewy ships quickly and well organized. Great customer service and the food arrives fresh. Plan to order again...

  • Petcurian Fresh Now Small Breed Senior Kibble

    By on

My dog (chihuahua) has been eating the adult version of this food for many years. When I realized that she is now considered a senior, I thought it was time to switch to a senior food. We tried Orijen because our pet food store does not carry the senior version of Fresh Now, but she didn't seem to like it as much, or maybe the kibble were too large, so I purchased the senior Fresh Now on Chewy - and she seems to love it.

  • Outstanding quality food my dogs love

    By on

My 3 dogs have been eating this brand for a number of years now. Two of them will soon be 16 yrs old. This is the ONLY dry food I've found that none of my dogs tire of! I use the small breed version and they're tiny kibble pieces in the shape of small bones. My babies don't care, but I think it's cute! Lol.

  • excellent food!

I have two 17 year old Papillons and a 15 year old Papillon and they all do well on this food. One used to have issues w/ pancreatitis and this is great for him. The kibble is small and easy for them to eat as none of them have all their teeth at their ages. If you need to soak it, it softens up fast. The best part besides the high quality is that they love it, I switched from Orijen to this as they like it better & I am at the point of trying to keep weight on them while still wanting to keep protein and fats low.

  • Perfect for my little princess.

I bought this for my 5 lbs, 13 year old Yorkie, about 2 months ago. I put in quite a few hours of research trying to find a quality senior, small breed food that was also chicken-free and grain-free. Had to be quality food, no: corn, wheat, soy, or by-products. Check. I was afraid she might be developing an allergy so I decided to just stay away from the 2 most common dog food allergies - chicken and grain. Check. She's prone to weight gain since her back legs are weak and she doesn't get around like she used to, so I had to make sure the protein and fat were on the low end for a small breed. Check. It also had to be a small kibble considering her size and tendency to not chew but rather I bought this for my 5 lbs, 13 year old Yorkie, about 2 months ago.
