Feeding Instructions

Dehydration essentially preserves the enzymes in whole food by removing the moisture to slow their activity. To prepare dehydrated foods for consumption, water is simply added back to the food. For every cup of dry food measured, add 1/2 - 3/4 cup of warm water. Mix well and allow to refresh for 20 - 30 minutes before serving. For more complete digestion and smaller stools, split the ration into 2 feedings: morning and evening. Refrigerate leftovers.

For every 20 lbs your dog weighs, feed approximately 1 cup of NRG dry measure. Dogs, just like people, may require more or less than the suggested serving depending on activity level and age.

Transition Instructions

When switching your dog’s diet, we recommend that it be done gradually over a 5 – 7 day period.

FAQ

Can I mix NRG with other foods?

While feeding NRG as a sole diet will provide the best of benefits for your pet, lifestyle decisions dictate what and how your pet is fed. NRG can be fed in conjunction with other diets to your champion pet with amazing results.

I feed kibble, can I top it with NRG instead of canned food?

NRG is the premium replacement for canned food. Our diets are powerfully palatable and rich in all the natural vitamins and minerals your dog requires.

I feed raw. Is NRG compatible?

If a raw diet is part of your feeding protocol, NRG can be a positive addition. Offer NRG as a separate meal daily to provide the balanced portion of the diet. This will maximize the contribution to your pets’ good health.

Why does Maxim contain wheat germ?

Many dogs today have an intolerance for grains. The trigger for this intolerance is gluten and wheat germ does not contain any gluten. We include wheat germ in all our formulas because it is the most digestible natural source of many nutrients.

I have been told my dog is allergic to grain. Which NRG diets can my dog eat?

Dogs that have an allergy to grain are usually intolerant to the gluten in wheat as it has been overused in pet food for decades. In human medicine people with wheat allergies substitute oats and we find many dogs with a wheat intolerance can do very well on Vital II and Optimum. Maxim is the obvious choice if your dogs last reaction to any grain was severe.

    Allergies and overweight

    By on

My lab suffers from envirnomental and food allergies(shocking). She is also overweight. She is almost 12 and stiff with bad hips. Before I had human kids I had her on a raw diet. She was super lean. I stopped the raw since she would grab all the babies toys. She got older and blew up even after feeding her multiple brand low calorie diets(feeding her enough calories for a 50lb dog and she was super lean at 76lbs, was 93). I found NRG! She is losing weight eventhough her calorie intake is much higher. Without all the fillers finally something that works! As for some review saying lack of meat. I think that is false. The food is almost all ground up. I am not seeing where they can even tell what My lab suffers from envirnomental and food allergies(shocking). She is also overweight. Great food!

    By on Top 50 Contributor

We have been serving our two boys, 55 and 88 pounds respectively THK and while we were all very happy with it we wanted to change it up. Had been wanting to give NRG a try and both of our guys are gobbling up the Beef. We are going to try NRG raw Salmon next as they both love it when we grill fresh salmon for ourselves and they get some too.

    Quality product

    By on

This product comes highly recommended to me for my senior, over weight Golden Retrievers. Easy to use and store. In two months my girls have lost significant weight using this dog food as a supplement to home cooked dog food.

I followed directions, adding the warm water and waiting 30 minutes. Theres not a lot of meat, but definitely a lot of filler.

    Excellent choice

I'm usually a raw feeder for my active dalmatians. We are moving and while building our new home, we are temporarily living in an rv which is not the easiest for prepping the usual raw meals. So I decided to find the closest best replacement to the raw food for the next few months....NRG is the only food on the market I could find that uses only whole good food and NO supplements which is how my usual raw meals are. So it was a no Brainer to go with NRG. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I wish it were ground into powder. Its texture is too course and my dogs weren't digesting 100% of the food, I could see undigested pieces of food in their stools. I also prepare it way more ahead then recommended, atleast 12 hours so its fully hydrated and up to 3 days. I will return to a raw diet when I get into my new kitchen But NRG will always be my back up food and what I bring when I vacation with my dogs and what I recommend to anyone who doesn't feed raw... … more

    PRETTY HAPPY

Overall I think this product is as close to true raw feeding yet, with shelf life. True raw is my favorite but, I also like having food on hand that does not require refrigeration. NRG appears to use Human-Grade/Organic ingredients & no synthetic vitamins which is also a plus. If the food is balanced & high quality, there is no need for synthetic supplementation. Processed, high heat, extruded/canned foods, kill the enzymes & vitamins, then replace them with synthetics that the body cannot truly use. In addition, I appreciate a single protein formula, i.e., beef & beef organs & no other meats. Only 2 complaints I have is the box for the 1Kilo size is flimsy & falls apart. Not what I expected

    By on

This food is really good, but just not what I was looking for. One girl needs more veggies and the other more meat so I look for whole pieces of meat and veggies so I can control which gets what. I wanted to find an alternative for my big girl who is the one that mainly eats raw and dehydrated but I still like this for my little one so I may get it again in the future.

    Another great product from NRG

    By on

My dog loves this brand...it is beautifully formulated & he chooses this product (as I mix kibble from: Earthborn (Squid formula); Canidae (Ancestral); Ziwi Peak (dried lamb); Stella and Chewy's (Lamb patties); Petkind (Green Tripe Red Meat)....he will meticulously gather the NRG out of his bowl & eat it first. Then Stella and Chewy, then Ziwi Peak...so....I guess we will be transitioning fully to NRG & supporting with raw meat & kelp...
