Feeding Instructions

Dehydration essentially preserves the enzymes in whole food by removing the moisture to slow their activity. To prepare dehydrated foods for consumption, water is simply added back to the food. For every cup of dry food measured, add 1/2 - 3/4 cup of warm water. Mix well and allow to refresh for 20 - 30 minutes before serving. For more complete digestion and smaller stools, split the ration into 2 feedings: morning and evening. Refrigerate leftovers.

For every 20 lbs your dog weighs, feed approximately 1 cup of NRG dry measure. Dogs, just like people, may require more or less than the suggested serving depending on activity level and age.

Transition Instructions

When switching your dog’s diet, we recommend that it be done gradually over a 5 – 7 day period.

FAQ

Can I mix NRG with other foods?

While feeding NRG as a sole diet will provide the best of benefits for your pet, lifestyle decisions dictate what and how your pet is fed. NRG can be fed in conjunction with other diets to your champion pet with amazing results.

I feed kibble, can I top it with NRG instead of canned food?

NRG is the premium replacement for canned food. Our diets are powerfully palatable and rich in all the natural vitamins and minerals your dog requires.

I feed raw. Is NRG compatible?

If a raw diet is part of your feeding protocol, NRG can be a positive addition. Offer NRG as a separate meal daily to provide the balanced portion of the diet. This will maximize the contribution to your pets’ good health.

Why does Maxim contain wheat germ?

Many dogs today have an intolerance for grains. The trigger for this intolerance is gluten and wheat germ does not contain any gluten. We include wheat germ in all our formulas because it is the most digestible natural source of many nutrients.

I have been told my dog is allergic to grain. Which NRG diets can my dog eat?

Dogs that have an allergy to grain are usually intolerant to the gluten in wheat as it has been overused in pet food for decades. In human medicine people with wheat allergies substitute oats and we find many dogs with a wheat intolerance can do very well on Vital II and Optimum. Maxim is the obvious choice if your dogs last reaction to any grain was severe.

My dogs love this food! Firm Poops!

    By on

My greyhound and my little mutt love this food. They get so excited at dinner time. I love the ingredients in the food. It’s worth the price for quality. My greyhound in particular Has had some issues with dog food. In the past she has either been picky and just decided that she doesn’t like her food, or the food has made Her poop runny. Runny poop is common for greyhounds, so it’s a miracle that this food keeps ours firm!

    Not sure about it

    By on

It has to have water just right or it’s to soupy or to dry. My dog didn’t care for it but yours might.

    Great all-natural dog food!

    By on

My puppy and I both love this food. It is human-grade all natural good that has been freeze-dried. Simply add warm water, wait 20-30 minutes for it to reconstitute and voila, a warm tasty meal.

    My border collie loves it.

    By on

This is a fifty-fifty deal, one dog loves it the other dog doesn't. I am rating it on the border collie's taste, the blue heeler doesn't care for it at all. Go figure.

Good product but only 3 of my 5 dogs will eat it

    By on

It is easy to prepare and seems to be a very good quality pet food. I am still feeding with other dog food because if I only feed it, 2 of my dogs will not eat it and will go for a couple days without eating. I am disappointed because I thought it would be the answer but have now started to feed just raw frozen to the dogs and they eat it all every time. They are all getting old and have become very finicky, but they still need to eat.

The buffalo NRG preferable to Beef & Veggies for us.

    By on

I tried this beef and veggies because it was a little bit more food and a little bit less cost-but would not do so again. It has no ground bone or organ meat, and is extended: •"Formulated with both raw and cooked dehydrated meat and whole oats"-I missed this, and have read that combining raw and cooked not recommended, as both digest differently. That said, our 1 year old labradoodle did not turn her nose up at this food, and she is beginning to be a picky eater, something we have not experienced with our previous lab-mix dogs. She did seem to prefer the buffalo however.

Highly recommended from a picky pooch

    By on

My dog really enjoys her dinner now! This food is great. I don't feed solely this due to cost, but it is great to supplement. Once rehydrated, it's almost like a ground beef type texture with some veggies thrown in there. I prefer Canadian products over US and this fits my needs, and makes me dog happy! I will continue purchasing this product
