Cosequin is a patented, scientifically researched nutritional supplement dispensed by thousands of veterinarians to help dogs maintain healthy joints. As dogs age, it is common for their joints to become less flexible which impacts their mobility and quality of life. You may have noticed that your dog has difficulty walking up stairs or jumping on the bed. While he used to be eager to play, now he is content to rest. Even at younger ages some dogs are subject to joint health concerns which affect flexibility and mobility. Cosequin contains TRH122' chondroitin sulfate, FCHG49' glucosamine and manganese ascorbate. These ingredients have been scientifically formulated to support and maintain the health of your dog's joints. Published studies have shown that the specific combination of ingredients in Cosequin works together to maintain the structure of the cartilage in your dog's joints while inhibiting the enzymes that break down cartilage. It is very important to note that the published studies on Cosequin do not apply to other brands.
Early action is always the best advice. Different breeds of dogs age at different rates. With regular check - ups your veterinarian can talk with you about your dog's aging process. Your veterinarian may discuss weight control, selective use of medications, exercise and the administration of Cosequin. It is important to have your dog examined by your veterinarian if you notice the dog having difficulties climbing stairs, jumping into the car, going for walks or even getting up. Your veterinarian can advise you if Cosequin can help. Your veterinarian may also suggest using Cosequin as a protective measure. This can be important for maintaining an active life for many dogs, especially large breeds and working dogs of all sizes. Cosequin may also be used to help support cartilage following joint surgery.
Observe your dog closely, and notice whether he seems more comfortable performing everyday activities such as climbing up stairs, going for walks, or even getting up. Most people will observe gradual changes in their dog's comfort level. In a published survey of over 3,000 veterinarians, over 80% of dogs administered Cosequin improved significantly in their mobility, level of comfort, and attitude. Overall, the veterinarians rated Cosequin as good to excellent.
Since Cosequin is a supplement and provides nutrients to maintain your dog's joint health, it works more gradually than drugs. Improvement on Cosequin can range from gradual to dramatic. Following the administration schedule on the label for your dog's weight, we recommend an initial administration period of 4 - 6 weeks. Some dogs may show a response in a shorter period of time.
Research in dogs administered Cosequin has shown that if Cosequin is given prior to an injury, the animal returns to normal function much more quickly. In light of this research, Cosequin is recommended to protect cartilage in dogs that are overweight, working breeds, and large breeds, as well as the average ""weekend warrior"". In order to gain the protective benefits of Cosequin in healthy animals, a low level of Cosequin may be used. The level for these pets varies, but the suggested maintenance level given every other day may be adequate.
A safety study in dogs demonstrated no adverse effects of Cosequin administration on blood work parameters, including complete blood count, biochemical, and clotting values. Some dogs may experience a mild gastrointestinal upset such as that which occurs when switching foods. If this is the case, you can try offering Cosequin with a meal.
Exercise is important for optimal joint function as well as weight control for the overall health of your pet. Joint movement is needed to circulate fluid around the cartilage as well as to bring nutrients and to remove waste products. It has been shown that when joints are immobilized, cartilage structures break down at a rapid rate. Consult with your veterinarian, but in most cases, moderate exercise is recommended. Walking on sand or another soft surface or even swimming will help circulate needed nutrients and reduce excessive stress to the cartilage. It is important not to push your pet but to exercise at a comfortable pace.
Most commercial pet foods include baseline vitamins and nutrients, but some may not have the adequate amount to suit your pet's exact health needs. Like in humans, vitamins and supplements can help support your pet's long-term health, regulating everything from digestion to muscle growth. Consult your veterinarian to determine the best vitamins and supplements for your furry friend.
It is recommended to give the suggested dosage based off your pet's weight. Please refer to the Feeding Instructions tab and consult with your veterinarian for more information.

I wish I could review the effectiveness of these but I will have to stick with the tastiness claim. My 2 are not impressed. They refuse to eat them and the pills are too large to disguise in cheese or meat. Both are abandoned still laying in the floor.
My dog, Sprinkles, was diagnosed with IVDD and so his recovery has been a process. Our vet recommended Cosequin to help him. I’m usually on the fence about giving supplements to my dogs but I decided to try it and oh boy, do these supplements work. Before the supplements, Sprinkles never wanted to get up and move around but after about two weeks on the supplements, it was like Sprinkles was back and ready to take on the world. Now I will say that Sprinkles isn’t 100% being on these supplements for about 4 months but I would say he is at 90% which for his IVDD is pretty good. Sprinkles is a finicky eater so I crush half a pill (he weighs 8 lbs) and add it to his nightime snack and he eats it up no problem. If you’re super particular about feeding stuff to your dogs (like me), don’t be afraid to give this supplement to your dog :) Trust me, I’m the fur mom that studies labels and spends hours researching so I’m extremely particular:)
This seems to be helping my 8 1/2 year old German shorthaired pointer. He has arthritis. Since starting the chewable tablets, he has wanted to walk further distances with me. He likes the tablets and takes them without any issues.
So glad I bought this. Really helped my beagle. He was diagnosed with torn ACL. After taking Cosequin, he's running outside and up the stairs without limping or crying. Great stuff
Neither of our dogs would eat it, would spit out (and one of our dogs typically eats everything) tried hiding in different things still spit out, crushed into food and they refused to eat.
I don't give these everyday seems like every 3-4 works with my buddy he is 61 lbs. he didn't suffer any side effects either.
I image they serve the medicinal purpose but make dog is picky and won't eat them by them selves. I have to put them in her mouth. She is smart and picked out of her food.
Chewy does. good job taking care of my pets. Your deliveries are delivered on time. Your CSR"s are polite and efficient We had a little hick-up with my dog's dry food.on my last order. I was send the trout and pumpkin flavored flavored kibble . I mixed it in with his regular turkey and pumpkin dry food and he ate it, but not with much enthusiasm. I did not send it back because the last time I had to send pet food back, I was told to keep and donate it to a animal charity by chewy . Which I did.
My 13 year old ShitzPoo started holding his back leg up to put no pressure on it except when absolutely necessary. Started giving him this and he immediately stopped. He runs and jumps and has no further problems. The pill is kind of big so I have to break it in half or he just spits it out. I give him one every morning. Glad I found this to make his life pain free.
I have been giving these to my young Shepard since she turned one. Her older stepsister passed last year , 12yrs old . At two, she had knee surgery and I started giving her the maximum dose allowed. It really helped out her running and climbing stairs, for her remaining 10 yrs. Only makes sense to keep my young girl on a low dose to help maintain her hips and she really likes there taste.
