What is Cosequin' for Dogs?
Cosequin is a patented, scientifically researched nutritional supplement dispensed by thousands of veterinarians to help dogs maintain healthy joints. As dogs age, it is common for their joints to become less flexible which impacts their mobility and quality of life. You may have noticed that your dog has difficulty walking up stairs or jumping on the bed. While he used to be eager to play, now he is content to rest. Even at younger ages some dogs are subject to joint health concerns which affect flexibility and mobility. Cosequin contains TRH122'* chondroitin sulfate, FCHG49'* glucosamine and manganese ascorbate. These ingredients have been scientifically formulated to support and maintain the health of your dog's joints. Published studies have shown that the specific combination of ingredients in Cosequin works together to maintain the structure of the cartilage in your dog's joints while inhibiting the enzymes that break down cartilage. It is very important to note that the published studies on Cosequin do not apply to other brands.
When is the use of Cosequin' recommended?
Early action is always the best advice. Different breeds of dogs age at different rates. With regular check - ups your veterinarian can talk with you about your dog's aging process. Your veterinarian may discuss weight control, selective use of medications, exercise and the administration of Cosequin. It is important to have your dog examined by your veterinarian if you notice the dog having difficulties climbing stairs, jumping into the car, going for walks or even getting up. Your veterinarian can advise you if Cosequin can help. Your veterinarian may also suggest using Cosequin as a protective measure. This can be important for maintaining an active life for many dogs, especially large breeds and working dogs of all sizes. Cosequin may also be used to help support cartilage following joint surgery.
My pet just started taking Cosequin'. What should I notice?
Observe your dog closely, and notice whether he seems more comfortable performing everyday activities such as climbing up stairs, going for walks, or even getting up. Most people will observe gradual changes in their dog's comfort level. In a published survey of over 3,000 veterinarians, over 80% of dogs administered Cosequin improved significantly in their mobility, level of comfort, and attitude. Overall, the veterinarians rated Cosequin as good to excellent.
How long does it take Cosequin' to work?
Since Cosequin is a supplement and provides nutrients to maintain your dog's joint health, it works more gradually than drugs. Improvement on Cosequin can range from gradual to dramatic. Following the administration schedule on the label for your dog's weight, we recommend an initial administration period of 4 - 6 weeks. Some dogs may show a response in a shorter period of time.
Should I give Cosequin' to all of my dogs?
Research in dogs administered Cosequin has shown that if Cosequin is given prior to an injury, the animal returns to normal function much more quickly. In light of this research, Cosequin is recommended to protect cartilage in dogs that are overweight, working breeds, and large breeds, as well as the average ""weekend warrior"". In order to gain the protective benefits of Cosequin in healthy animals, a low level of Cosequin may be used. The level for these pets varies, but the suggested maintenance level given every other day may be adequate.
Are there any side effects?
A safety study in dogs demonstrated no adverse effects of Cosequin administration on blood work parameters, including complete blood count, biochemical, and clotting values. Some dogs may experience a mild gastrointestinal upset such as that which occurs when switching foods. If this is the case, you can try offering Cosequin with a meal.
Should I exercise my dog while he is on Cosequin'?
Exercise is important for optimal joint function as well as weight control for the overall health of your pet. Joint movement is needed to circulate fluid around the cartilage as well as to bring nutrients and to remove waste products. It has been shown that when joints are immobilized, cartilage structures break down at a rapid rate. Consult with your veterinarian, but in most cases, moderate exercise is recommended. Walking on sand or another soft surface or even swimming will help circulate needed nutrients and reduce excessive stress to the cartilage. It is important not to push your pet but to exercise at a comfortable pace.
Why should I include vitamins & supplements in my pet's diet?
Most commercial pet foods include baseline vitamins and nutrients, but some may not have the adequate amount to suit your pet's exact health needs. Like in humans, vitamins and supplements can help support your pet's long-term health, regulating everything from digestion to muscle growth. Consult your veterinarian to determine the best vitamins and supplements for your furry friend.
How often should I give this supplement to my pet?
It is recommended to give the suggested dosage based off your pet's weight. Please refer to the Feeding Instructions tab and consult with your veterinarian for more information.
Is this supplement safe to use with the medication my pet is currently taking?
If your pet has a medical condition and is taking other medication, we recommend consulting with your veterinarian to ensure that this supplement is safe to use.
My pet is allergic to certain ingredients, will this product be safe to use?

So far, so good
By Lulu on Jan 6, 2021
I have a 6 yr. old Siberian Husky who still acts like a puppy. On a recent vet visit I inquired as to whether or not I should be starting my dog on a joint supplement given her "middle age" now. He stated it would be best to start now rather than wait until signs/symptoms of joint deterioration begin. I was hesitant to order such a large quantity of Cosequin given my dog is very finicky eater and often rejects various treats and medications even though they may be disguised as "treats". To my pleasant surprise, my dog is accepting of the Cosequin chews and is currently on the "loading" dose of 2 per day. I'm hopeful continued use will prevent or at least significantly delay joint problems.

Labs Love It!
By MochasProtector on Nov 19, 2020
My 6-year-old female chocolate lab wasn't as active as she used to be. I've tried a variety of treats and pills for joint support, but was never satisfied until trying Cosequin. Naturally, it's a brand-name supplement that sponsors a terrific TV show ("Lucky Dog") and more expensive than the rest, but I was REALLY blown away at how quickly Mocha regained her earlier form. She's a runner. She's a hunter. She loves playing frisbee. She loves chasing squirrels. And now she can even jump into the truck for trips to the dump (she couldn't before). Highly recommended!

Nutramax Cosequin Maximum Strength
By MarciB on Oct 24, 2020
My Cockapoo is 16 yrs old and due to much running, jumping and chasing in his youth and middle age he has developed arthritis in his knees.I was using a different hip and joint product but it has ceased to be effective. I searched for a different more effective product. When we tried Nutramax Cosequin we noticed an almost immediate improvement. He has more energy and more willingness to walk short distances as well as spend more time being social. I highly recommend this product.

The dog LOVES these
By HorseShowMom on Dec 31, 2020
It is super easy to get the dog to eat these - they are her favorite daily treat. She has been taking them for a month or so and so far she hasn't had the joint stiffness in her front leg that she had been having off and on before we started this supplement.

I love this product
By Mari on Jan 8, 2021
Great product and I feel it is better absorbed than the Cosequin tablet. I break it up and mix it into his breakfast and he eats it right up. Soft texture and easily breakable. Has a strong smell though but if mixed with food should do the job.

Doesn't work!
By slit on Nov 5, 2020
I had been using a liquid glucosamine for my dog who has arthritis. It was working really well and then I decided to switch to this Nutramax Cosequin max strength. MISTAKE!! My poor dog can hardly walk!!! She's limping all the time and can barely get up! I'm switching back to the liquid glucosamine.

Unfortunately this did not work for my girl.
By Lucy on Nov 30, 2020
This product did not work for my beagle. I decided to try this because I have tried one that I got at the grocery store and it worked some, so I was hopeful that this would work even better. Unfortunately this did not work at all.

Beneficial
By EMTI on Dec 11, 2020
I used 2 bags of this and then wasn't sure there was any benefit. I stopped giving it to my dog for a few months and then saw a severe decline in his joint health, He's back on it and the benefits are showing up already. Love these chews for him and he loves them too, and he's very fussy on what he will eat

Very pleased
By Michie on Oct 20, 2020
My dog loves these so much i have to hide the bag after I give her a dose. After only one week, she appeared to be feeling & moving a little better. She was recently diagnosed with the start of arthritis in her spine & hip so I started her on this product along with a prescription medication for pain - so between the two, she seems to be having better days.

Joint Health for my dog
By EmilusMom on Dec 30, 2020
My dog Emilu is a senior dog and seemed to be having some trouble walking. My vet suggested Glucosamine supplements. I bought the chews so she would like them. After 2-3 weeks, Emilu seems to have a spring to her step.
