Questions & Answers

55 Customer Questions

Is this strictly to help with/prevent joint problems in older dogs, or would it be good as a preventative for younger dogs that are 1 to 2 years old?

What is the difference between Dasuquin with MSM and Cosequin with MSM.
Answer by ChewyDec 23, 2017
The difference between the two products is a third ingredient in Dasuquin that makes the primary ingredients glucosamine and chondroitin more effective. That third ingredient is called ASU (which is avocado and soybean unsaphonifiables) which is much more effective in improving sore, stiff or degenerating joints.

Is this something that could help signs of hip dysplasia for an older German Shepard?
Answer by ChewySep 30, 2018
This supplement is maximum strength and maintains optimal joint function to increase joint mobility so depending on the severity it should help.

How many milligrams is there in each tablet?
Answer by ChewyAug 07, 2017
Each Chewable Tablet Contains 600 milligrams minimum of Glucosamine Hydrochloride, 300 milligrams minimum of Sodium Chondroitin Sulfate Minimum, 250 milligrams minimum of Methylsulfonylmethane, and 3 milligrams of Manganese Minimum.

Great Product

One of my big dogs - 93 lbs was having some knee problems. Fortunately the vet doesn't think he needs surgery but suggested getting him on Cosequin. He's been on it for 2 weeks, steady and I notice difference in his walk, a little bit so far. Fortunately they are chewable and apparently have a good flavor, or else he just thinks it's a treat and swallows them whole. I chose to have them sent out every 8 weeks so he'll be on them for the rest of his life. Also the great thing is that when I ordered them I expected to wait a few days, but got them the next day.

So Far So Good!

We are pleased with this item. It seems to be helping our 13 year old husky. He seems to be able to walk with a little more stability. His rear legs are a little stronger. It has only been two weeks but I do see a difference. No issues with any reaction or diarrhea. He takes the pill easily. It is a large pill but I break it up into 4 pieces and no problem. Definite!y give this a try for a senior dog.

My golden boy thinks it’s a treat!

We just switched my 1 year old golden retriever to adult food, & with that we wanted to add in a joint supplement due to the high prevalence of joint issues in their breed. We cannot speak to its effectiveness yet since he is on a maintenance dose with one tablet tucked into his food at morning and night. To my surprise, my picky eater boy actually digs through the food with his nose to get to the supplement first! He has been taking these for roughly 3 weeks and I have seen no side effects in him. I will happily continue to buy these for my peace of mind.

His limping is gone!

Reason for purchase: Ordered for my 13 ½ year old, 10 lb. Maltipoo rescue baby. I had noticed an all of a sudden weakness in his hind quarters (happening numerous times a day) and constant limping on his left hind leg. I was immediately very concerned, especially considering his age. I spent some time researching possible causes and relative treatments. Then I researched different Cosequin Products before ordering this particular one. *3 important things to note: 1) SIZE. The tablets are huge; a smidge larger than 4 pennies, stacked! But they are scored down the middle which helps with the cutting in half. 2) CHEWABILITY. They are very hard; not the least bit chewy. My dog is recently toothless due to severe gum disease. Even if he had all his teeth he would not be able to chew ½ tablet. So I have to grind it into a fine powder (easy to do). 3) TASTE: Jack hated the smell; would not even taste it. Innumerable ways to entice him to eat it sprinkled hidden in his food all were a Complete Failure. Finally, I mixed the powdered tablet with ½ tsp. creamy peanut butter to mask it completely, used his favorite plain Cheerios to scoop up a huge dollop and hand fed it to him. Complete success! About a dozen Cheerios are required for his dose but that’s okay with us both. Results: He has been on it for 3 weeks now, ½ tablet daily per dosing info. The improvement is astounding! The weakness in his hind quarters is greatly reduced; manifests itself maybe only a few times a week (mainly when he’s tired). With a quick assist from me he is up and at’em again. And the limping is GONE!! He is back to running, spinning in circles and hopping his excited self - my 13 ½ year old happy puppy!

Recommended by vet

Cosequin plus MSM was recommended for our 10-ish year old terrier beagle mix. The girl is very active, loves her long daily walks. Noticed about a year ago she seemed a bit stiff getting up from a post-walk snooze. Mentioned this to her vet, who suggested trying Cosequin with MSM. Found it on Chewy, ordered, received quickly. After the initial introduction period dosages, she now takes one tablet once daily. It seems to have helped her post-walk comfort & mobility. No conclusive data, just anecdotal observation.

Dogs love these

These are (apparently) good tasting. My dogs think they are just treats. The only downside is the packaging. I really would like it to be in 30 day increments so I can have it shipped monthly.

Fantastic results

Merlin just turned 11 and has had problems navigating with his rear legs for just about a year. I started him on Cosequin right away and he is still on them today. It hasn't cured the problem but it makes it easier for him to get along. He will chase a ball - carefully. I have kept him on three doses three times a day because he is doing so well on that dose.

Take that arthritis

My dog was diagnosed with arthritis in his back legs. We went from walking 3 miles a day to him not being able to make it a block due to the pain and inflammation. I started him on the cosequin and noticed a huge difference after the first week. We are now back to our long walks! Not to mention he loves them and thinks they are treats.

Cosequin Worth Every Penny!!!

I have a Chion (half Papillon, half chihuahua) that is almost 10 years old. Sophie had an ACL tear repair and has developed some arthritis in the the joints. She had started to move very slowly and appeared to be in pain and was not her good natured, happy self. I could get Rimadyl but I wanted to try this just to see if it would work. After giving her a half tablet for 3 days, she was a new dog! And she is back to her old carefree and happy self. She is now acting like she did before the ACL tear! I continue to give her 1/2 tablets every other day for maintenance with no issues. Cosequin really works!!!!!! I am a realist and honestly did not expect these results. It sure made a believer out of me!!

Good product

I purchased these for a friend's dog who is suffering from some minor hip pain/arthritis...he has been giving the recommended dosage to his dog for over a week now and has seen some improvement in the dogs walking...hopefully in time he will see more activity in his dog...
