Why doesn't Dasuquin contain manganese, like the Cosequin capsules? If I switch from Cosequin to Dasuquin, should I give my cat a manganese supplement?
Answer by pearcatOct 25, 2023
The previous answer may be misleading. Yes, Dasuquin Advanced does contain manganese, but this product is the original Dasuquin. Dasuquin Advanced is apparently only available from veterinarians. Combining one capsule of Dasuquin and one capsule of Cosequin may be a way to try and get the benefits of the added ingredients of the Dasuquin while still getting manganese from the Cosequin. (From what I can find, purchasing one bottle of Dasuquin and one bottle of Cosequin is cheaper than one bottle of the Dasuquin Advanced.) Just an idea if money is tight.

The directions say to give 2 capsules per day for cats 10+ lbs for the INITIAL 4-6 WEEKS. What do i give after the initial 4-6 weeks?
Answer by ChewyFeb 13, 2019
For cats under 10 pounds, feed 1 chew daily in the initial feeding and 2 chews for cats over 10 pounds in the initial feeding. After the initial feeding period, feed 1 chew every other day for cats under 10 pounds and 1 chew daily for cats over 10 pounds.

The label calls these "sprinkle capsules." Does that mean I will be able to open the capsule and sprinkle the contents on my cat's food? I'm sure he won't take regular capsules, so this could be a great solution.
Answer by ChewyFeb 08, 2019
The capsule that's used for this supplement is able to open so you can sprinkle it on your pet's food.

Directions say open capsule and sprinkle on food. I know that won't work for my finicky eater. It's easier for me to pop capsules in my her mouth. Is it ok for me to administer it that way rather than sprinkle on her food?
Answer by ChewyMay 04, 2019
The capsules may be administered in pill form if more convenient.

Lubricant for sore paws

I have an old loveable female cat who has been struggling to get about. I was recommended to get this product for her and it is really helping along with the occasional gabapentin the veterinarian told me to give her. I would recommend this product to anyone trying to make their furry friend more comfortable.

Works great

My senior cat has been using this for a long time, and it really helps with her joint health. She’s still able to jump up on counters and furniture. I also like that I can open the capsule and mix it with her favorite food.

Works great.....IF you can get your cat to take it

I started out using Cosequin for my cat, Ce-Ce. At first it worked great for her arthritis, but then I noticed it didn't seem to have much affect on her symptoms anymore, so I switched to the Dasuquin. The first time I opened a capsule I could immediately smell the strong, almost sour medicinal scent, but I mixed it with her favorite food anyway. She took the first three doses, then refused the next two, then took a dose, then refused.....well, you get the idea. The longest I've been able to get her to take it is four days, then no matter what I try mixing it with she refuses it, which is aggravating because it really does seem to help her arthritis alot. I wish the manufacturer would do something about the sour smell and taste because your cat needs to be on it for at least a couple of weeks before results are seen. Bottom line, I'm back to the Cosequin for now, although I try to sneak in doses of this med when I can.

Seems helpful for arthritis

Our vet recommended this for my older cat's arthritic hips and legs. I did combine this with a low dose of gabapentin, but I can say that the Dasuquin was readily accepted when the capsule contents were mixed with her food. After a week of 2 capsules daily, she does seem to be moving more comfortably.

Good product.

This sprinkle capsule has been easily accepted by my old cat either in canned food or one of the treat pastes like Churu. Only on it for a week and her limp is less noticeable. Nutramax makes great products. I know this will slow down the progression of her arthritis.

It's hit or miss...

My vet suggested this brand join supplement for my almost 15 year old cat. My cat has not been known to be picky, he's even tried eating the dog's wet food, and he did not want to eat his wet food when this was mixed in. After 3 days of trying this, and wasting wet food and his medication, I stopped mixing this in and and he ate his wet food, no problem. So there must be some sort of taste to it and because he wouldn't eat it, I was unable to see if it even worked.

I mix it in his wet food & he doesn’t seem to notice that it’s there. He takes it without even noticing.

Old cat

I have a 15 yr old cat with a torn ACL. One of the best things I did for her was adding stairs for her to get on the bed. The other was adding this product to her daily intake. I mix it in with her canned food. She watches me do it and still eats it all so it must not alter the flavor. After a month of use, she goes for walks with me again and even jumps up on a dresser to look out the window. The product hasn't healed the ACL issue and it hasn't made her kittenish again but it has given her a better range of motion with less stiffness. Well worth the money.

Big help!

My senior kitty is almost 17 and has some arthritis in her elbows. My mom had actually recommended me this after trying it for her cat and seeing a big change. I got the capsules and mix the powder into her wet food. She doesn't even notice it and she is really picky about her food. It made an instant difference! Even my vet was impressed!

Miracle Product

Dasuquin has worked miracles for our 8 year old cat Lola. She came to us at 13 months old with many problems, both mental and physical. Her worst problem seemed to be the horrible declawing she endored. Over time she started moving less and less but we thought it was out of fear of the other pets. Last year our Vet decided to try Dasuquin and she now runs, jumps and moves around more frequently. There is a very noticeable change in her quality of life.
