I bought the large dog version and the small dog version at the recommendation of my vet. I put them on an autoship because I didn't want to run out... But I ended up canceling that autoship because three out of four of my dogs will not eat these at all, so the 4th senior dog that will actually eat these - will now have a lifetime supply...eek...I was hoping they'd be more enticing/soft moist and chewy, but they are pretty dry in my opinion.
Aarti is 11.5 yrs old with an old back injury & a kidney issue. We had started Dasuquin last fall but after 1 week, she couldn't get up on the bed. At that point new bloodwork was done, she was still stable, vet & I decided to try a mild nsaid pain med & a kidney kibble that also had joint supplements in it. Big mistake on our part. The pain meds just a few weeks later showed a very negative decline in her kidney health. On 12/21/2022 she went back on the Dasuquin, after 2 weeks she was more active & had an easier time on the stairs. It's now 4 weeks and she is just as happy, active & bouncy as she was on those pain meds. We are so pleased & I was skeptical that it would really work but it does! We are keeping her on the full starter dose for the initial 6 weeks & then going to the maintenance amount. At that point we will start our 8yr old on the same product. ps I also called them to see if it's ok that she swallows them whole & they said yes, no problem.
Not sure if these are making a difference anymore (at first I thought they did). My dog is getting pretty stiff with her "mild" hip dysplasia. She's been on these for a few years. Maybe her hips are getting worse, and they're not helping anymore. Lately these have been hard as a ROCKS !! Time to find a different brand.
Hard as a brick! Senior dog can not eat. I had to crush it and mix in her food. That takes the convenience out of this. Quality control seems to be a big problem here. They are advertised as "Soft Chews" right on the packaging. Very misleading for such a pricey item.
My 13 year old 63 lb dog suffers from arthritis. He is on an an injection, pain medicine, and a pain blocker, but he was still stiff and limping. I added 2 Dasuquin per day, just putting on top of his breakfast food, which he happily eats. There is a definite improvement! Even my mother-in-law noticed and commented that he was walking better, not knowing I had added Dasuquin to his diet. Its such a relief because you feel so bad when you know your dog is in pain.
My girl (Maltese) tore her ACL sometime last year, and our vet recommended and gave us a bag of this stuff. In two months I have noticed a huge difference in her lifestyle! She loves these chews so they are fun to give her. She went from always raising her leg and not moving well to being able to run again (cautiously of course) and play with our other dog! She doesn’t raise her leg very often now either. I believe these have helped her a ton and I hope our vet has good things to say when he sees her again. Much improvement! Will buy again.
Like many others have noted, the last few bags I've gotten have been very hard. I've pushed these multiple times now and in the past, they've always been soft and very easy to split. But now they're incredibly hard and I had to check the bag to make sure it wasnt past due. I want to keep buying these but if the next one is hard I'm not sure what to do.
We've used this product on several aging dogs and it does help their mobility and joint pain. None of our dogs have liked the taste, however. We noticed a difference in a few weeks and will continue to use this. I will say, it's better to start giving it before the pain and limping starts as a preventative measure, otherwise playing catch up is sometimes hard. Good product!
These used to be soft and chewy, but this last bag contained very hard chews that are difficult to crumble even with a knife, as if they are very stale. Not sure I want to take a chance on future purchases of this.
We've been getting the Dasuquin tablets for the past two years, because you do get more bang for your buck. But... my 20 lb. pooch would regularly pick it out from his food, even if it was covered in gravy or peanut butter. No such trickery is needed for these. He eats them as if they are just another, normal treat.
